Arizona Regionals

Hey! I'm new to the Arizona regionals...I just moved here from my New York team #564, and now currently am with Paradise Valley 1165! What's the scoop with Arizona regionals? Where are they held and who goes? Is there more than one here?

The Arizona Regional has always been held in Phoenix. It is the only regional in the state. The next nearest regional is Las Vegas (290 mles), followed by the new San Diego Regional, and the Los Angeles Regional which are almost the same distance away (350-370 miles). Many teams from the Southern California area have gone to AZ for their second regional and I know we've always had a good time there.

Team #1726 from Sierra Vista, AZ will be attending this year. And this regional was a BLAST! All of the teams had a lot of fun, and the social was great.

Yeah, Phoenix is so much fun. Cyber Blue made it out there last year, but we won't be able to this year :(

There's just one Arizona Regional (it's in the Memorial Coliseum downtown, at the State Fair Grounds), and it's simply amazing. Half of the teams in attendance are usually from Arizona while the other half is made up of alot of California teams, a few New Mexico, Nevada, and Colorado teams, the team from Mexico, usually 1 or 2 teams from Canada, and a few other places (234 is the most frequent non-west coast team that attends, along with 96).

There is always a team social Friday night at the Arizona Science Center where we get food and can go look at all the exhibits for free. There's no food at the venue so most teams eat lunch outside in the parking lot (last year team 1324 put on a barbecue on Saturday for teams, it got rained on as we had our first rain in 140 days but the regional was nice and let us move it inside).

I've had the chance to attend the Arizona Regional since it started (2003), and I have yet to see a year it was disappointing.

i've been to arizona 05 and 06. It was a pretty good regional and is growing pretty well. In 05 there were about 30 teams and 06 had about 50. Some good teams like 60, 234, 330, 599, 980, and 987 were there this year. There are some higher number teams I'm forgetting though...

I don't think our team found it too enjoyable, we had to change a flat tire on the school van in the parking lot!

It was a great regional, there were lots of excellent teams there and it was an awesome event. The social was great, too! Us nerds thrive at science centers.
