Competition Software

In past events I've had FIRST software for generating matches, keeping score, etc. I've also had to do it by hand sometimes. This year I was hoping to go back to an all computer system, but FIRST has been MIA in terms of answering requests for software. Does anyone happen to have any software for this, or better yet, the FIRST software? Thanks.

I know that the Hatch software exists on FIRST's site explicitly for off-season events. That said, Mike and I took the better part of the evening beating the software into submission to get it to generate the matches we wanted. Unless you are playing Aim High verbatim, with a full FIRST field using the official electronics, I'd avoid it. (And even if you are, I'd still have a Plan B.)

Ultimately, we used Mike Walker's software for RTS and the on-screen display, paired with some slightly unorthodox field control for the field. (With no autonomous mode in Aim, well, Kinda High, we just switched off power to all the OIs at the end of the match with a surge strip. You could rig together a mass autonomous/disable box with a little soldering and a lot of continuity testing. Either solution requires having someone set the channels on each OI before the match.) I don't know if his setup does rankings, but that can be done with a little Excel work. Shoot him an IM or PM, and I'm sure he can fill you in on the details.

Thanks for the link, I haven't been able to get the software to do much other than establish the event name, then it starts having server errors and all that jazz. Anyone have any quick fix ideas?

Hey,

Go to "Reports/Util" and click "Load Database". Then open database and log file. Good luck!

(on a side note, why was my old post deleted?)

(I think the old post was deleted b/c FIRSt doesn't want the software getting out)

Okay, well I've gotten the team list compiled and all that, but it's not letting me generate matches now. I get "Final match scheduled at" and then it's back to the blank table. Any help would be really appreciated, sorry for all the questions.

perhaps an open source concept can be adapted? or semi-opensource

if the FIRST competition org/judges hold the actual scores (i.e. scoreservers), it is probably possible to push the data down to the individual teams when request i.e. they have laptops and software to access on the spot competition scores.

Re: Competition Software

(I just noticed "Reason: Unless permission is granted from FIRST, Please do not link the software." Sorry about that.)

To use the software create a event.
add teams
save the teams
The number of teams you have will affect what options you need for the pairings. If you choose the wrong settings it may not work. For example if you have 18 teams it is impossible to have 5 matches between each of your matches.
Good Luck!!
If you have anymore questions ask away.

(On a side note it is important that events know about the software. The Robot Rumble did not know about the software until yesterday and had been designing their own. So if you would like to know more about the software, how to find it, and are a legitimate FIRSTer please pm me.)

If you would like to obtain the software through FIRST for an event you are hosting, please contact FIRST Engineering through their Manager, Bill Miller at bmiller[at]usfirst.org.

I am using the Hatch software to run a scoring system to a television and i have entered all the teams in the program, the problem is that the Matches have been all scheduled by hand already, is there a way i can import the matches i want or a database i can edit to change the matches?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I can't remember the exact clicks (been a few months), but there's a match listing somewhere in the program that looks like a table. That's actually the database records for the matches--edit it directly, hope it doesn't crash, and you'll have your matches your way.

Re: Competition Software

The problem with that is that everytime i click on a cell directly on the the program it tell me " selecting the table and typing will edit matched. please read the warning above!" so every cell i click on it tells me that..... maybe theres a way to disable the warning?
