I've been thinking, and I dont know if this has already been posted, so i may look like an idiot here... but what does water do to light? it bends it... bends, curves, ARCS This makes me think about how this was released as a clue for last years game, but also makes me think this years game could involve projectiles.

Answer: HE has tricked us into believing everything he says..

Conclusion: The game will be some totally random, off the wall challenge of juggernaught proportions, designed to push our robots as well as the very minds that created them past the limits of typical human reality......................But thats just a guess.;)

the water hint could be in that direction. A game using water jugs would be much more feasable than a "water" game, like with boats... nah. too hard to set up the field. What would the jugs be used for, though?

Obviously we would use empty jugs, as they are much lighter. They could definitly be used for scoring, or as some sort of goal, but my thought is a gamepiece.

Re: dlavery game hint

My analysis:
The water: We can't see the game clearly.
The banana: Dave is saying that our minds will slip up on figuring out the game again.
The blue robot: The game will involve robots.
The light bar on the robot (connected to the "hint" at the Championship): Red vs. Blue, with green target lights.
The fish: Dave is throwing us some red herrings.
The blue line: Random item to throw us off.

By the way, this is a still from the 2006 animation, modified to give a bunch of "fake hints".

Wait about another 1-2 weeks. If it's released at all, it'll be sometime in that window by tradition.

perhaps everyone is underthinking things. I belive that the three lights ar eimportant because there r going to be 3 teams of 2 in position stations on oposite ends of the field. The banana is just a farytail - ie dave laverys idea of a joke.

If we're all underthinking things, then I think that means you're overthinking them. Every year, everyone reads too much into the hints given by Dave.

Re: dlavery game hint

It probably isn't much. 3 on 3 is the current norm. However I'm having thoughts that the Blue, Red, and Gree 'lights' at the top, is actually the field configuration. If you look really close at the top three, the blue is cut off on the left, the green on the right, and the red is full circle.

I figure this by saying that the yellow fish and the yellow banana are across each other...the orange fish and the orange eyebrow are across each other, the blue eye and the light blue mark on the fish is across each other.

EDIT: You know how there is a picture of Dave tossing his Red snappers and said "Maybe they are Herring". Well after some research, in 2004 75% of all Red Snapper was actually found out to be labeled incorrectly, for those Red Snapper where a whole different fish...Red Herring...Now All I need to find is a connection.

This is actually what I was thinking.

The delineation between the "groups" is clear by the line.

Defense bot has the banana.

Keep-away comes to mind, but it's too aggressive for FIRST.

If this hint is in any way relevant to the game, I think that we might see alliances that shift based on some aspect of the game--time or possession. Not a big shift, but some sort of one.

Or, maybe teams will be limited to one half of the field--the half opposite to their alliance station, to make it difficult, and will thus "face off" against each other.

I'm waiting for a more specific game hint though.

savage301 16-12-2006 17:17

Re: dlavery game hint

Looking at the picture in Tetramans post I thought of this. What if there are 3 - 2 team alliances, one blue, one green and one red, with the field divided in half. One bot in each alliance has to be on each side, but things that happen on one side affects what happens on the other. Just an idea, I can't wait to find out how wrong I am. :D

Re: dlavery game hint

I hope I don't ruin any of Dave's fun, but the Herring thing does have nothing to do with this unless it just so happens.

The picture of him tossing the Red Herring/Red Snapper is located on a website of one of the team members of 116 where she photoshops pics of Dave. Google image it.

I have a feeling the shift in the line via the ripples is actaully a hint. Such as stairs. A game field that is split in half by two levels, seperated in the center by stairs.

I do recall, as many people have already mentioned, that FIRST has started using their own symbols as game pieces... triangle, circle... now we're due for that square. (along those lines i looked at the 2005 kick-off video, and they did say they wanted to use all the shapes of first....)

Maybe another stacking game like stack attack?

Actually, Dave does that a lot for many of his posts over the years. I think it's just for aesthetic reasons, so there would be a white space from the bottom of his post until the start of his signature. (Otherwise new lines at the end of a post without any text on them are deleted.)

Possibly with the lights that they showed us last year in atlanta, they said that they would change colors every so many seconds (i think it was 2 sec.). And if we do use squares (blocks, cubes, PVC pipes assembled into cubes: ;) ) i hope that we will be launching them like we did last year, the shooter games are a lot of fun, although shooting squares would be a bit difficult.

ehh... i guess ill wait another week for the clue.

I've also noticed Dave switching his user title surprisingly much lately in comparison to how he used to. (For the longest of times, it was simply Curmudgeon, or in my really early days on CD Curmudgeon V-Neun.) Somebody care to find the connection between John Lennon, Joe Barbera, and robots?

Hopefully not a death of someone that was respected and admired, and perhaps a hero. I don't think everything Mr. Lavery does has to do with game clues even at this time of year. This is a very intense time and everyone is waiting for 'the' clue/hint but perhaps we can respect a small tribute for someone who has passed as being just that. Mr. Barbera was an animator, cartoon artist, producer, and wore many other hats doing wonderful wonderful work. It was his life's work.
