I think his list is only of the teams not already mentioned in the first post...
Sorry to burst your bubble, Bob. The check's in the mail, right? ;) |
Re: Urgent Request from SCRRF
Guess I screwed up again. Well, Travis...you always have been the brains of this outfit.

Re: Urgent Request from SCRRF
we have tried a lot to get contacts to teams. So far, a lot of teams havent responded, dont have a working contact on websites or on FIRST, and dont check the SCRRF newsletters that are sent to each team (as well as many team mebers). I personally probably spent a good 20 hours in the past month and a half trying to find contacts to teams in SoCal with little to no sucess. Nancy cant give me the contact stuff as its againt FIRST to give out other teams personal information without their consent. Trust me, 599 has tried good and hard to get people to notice there is an event. Its also hard since on the West Coast, this forum is not as popular as it is on the East Coast. oh well, SCRRF also has a tendency to sign up late. Well, these next 6 days are crunch times to sign up for Fall Classic. What is ironic is that this, acording to a meeting with Tarek and Chris, is the most organized Fall Classic yet, as we have been planning this event for a while and got a lot of prep done for this day. oh well.
oh, to answer how long we have been planning. umm. Chris talked to me about it over the summer. I took on planning the event with a team mate of mine about early august. Registration has been open for about a month. If you look at the Fall Classic thread on this forum section, it should show you this sort of stuff. We have been planning for a while. |
Re: Urgent Request from SCRRF
Indeed Eric, it is the most organized the Fall Classic has been in a good many years. I think it's mostly because this year we have input and help from a number of teams, instead of just two or three.

Re: Urgent Request from SCRRF
Eric, your post makes it unclear whether you will in fact cancel the event on monday pending the number of new teams you can find. I think most teams and their members would prefer a timely notice if it does in fact get cancelled.
If the event happens, we would like to be able to plan ahead and prepare for it. On the other hand if it does not, I would like to know as soon as possible so I can use that time to do other things. The last time an event was cancelled, we didn't find out about it until the afternoon immediately before. That caused a lot of problems and upset a lot of people. We don't want that happening again. I hope it is your intention to notify everyone on Monday if you do not get the desired 12 teams you need to continue with the event. Thanks for the effort no matter what happens! We still are crossing our fingers that things will come through! |
Re: Urgent Request from SCRRF
well, from the looks of it, if it is cancelled, it will be last minute, as in 2-3 days before the event (i dont know how else to put it). We have already started shipping the field and have arranged for security at the event. I dont think we will cancel it, but thats what i think. I just hope SCRRF doesnt loose any money off this. We will notify immediately if it is canceled. but that decision is ultimately up to Chris right now.
also, i think it will be later than monday, because most people wont meet that day, Yom Kippur. ahahah Third edit now, well, if this thing does get cancelled, i guess i get an early start on my offseason(s) project. lol. (if you cant tell, its like 1 am right now and i cant think a lot.) Well, hopefully SoCal teams can take this as a lesson next time around to sign up earlier. Ironic how Fall Classic is supposed to bring teams together, yet if you spread out the jobs to teams to make it more unified, the event tends to drift away from sucessful. Maybe its only this year, considering SD off season event was postponed as well. argh, im going to get some sleep, i really dont want to think about this much more. night CD. |
Re: Urgent Request from SCRRF
Well this has been a long standing problem with teams on the West Coast. Many of them do not respond to their emails immediately, if at all, or they fail to update their team's contact information. Even with help from FIRST, it has always been incredibly hard to contact teams here. Unfortunately, it's always been a struggle, but that's why SCRRF continually tries to hold these events.

Re: Urgent Request from SCRRF
This event has been planned since some time around May, which is when we settled on a date. Team 599 volunteered to host it durng the summer, and we've been sending out a steady stream of information ever since through official and unofficial channels.
Mr. Van and I set the "drop dead date" as Tuesday. We currently have about 8 teams. If we can meet expenses with that number, my inclination is to go ahead, but maybe run matches with 4 instead of 6 robots. One of the things we learned during the Scrimmage was that this game plays well with 2, 4, or 6 robots on the field. |
