Congrats to the winning alliance, especially 2108. It's amazing that a rookie team can win as an alliane captain at such a big regional.

I was not a fan of the red alliance's strategy. 623 would have been better off playing defense for at least a little while and then retreating to the alliance station to deploy their ramps. With some more defense the outcome might have been different.

I was there it was an amazing match... I'm sorry we weren't with them for the final one but 1599 shall be remembered for a different reason... anyway my real post is to congratulate 2108 and also ask where I could get a copy of the webcast for today... I want to get the portion of it from match 83 where they start calling us out for Bitting the wire on our control system.

Re: 2007 VCU Regional

The full stats spreadsheet isn't ready for posting yet, but here's a taste of what I've found out:

Average ringers per alliance (all matches): 2.5
Average ringers per alliance (elimination only): 2.7
Average points per alliance (all matches): 18.6
Average points per alliance (elimination only): 35.9

Throughout the entire competition...

408 ringers
9 keepers
1 spoiler (thrown by a human player)
79 twelve-inch lifts
31 four-inch lifts
3943 points scored (after penalties)

Here's something I found interesting...

In the eliminations, there were 1292 points after penalties. Unpenalized, however, the score was 1462*. Of those 1462 points, 1020 were scored by 12" lifts and 90 were scored by 4" lifts. This leaves only 352 points scored by ringers and keepers for all of the eliminations.

So it breaks down like this, in percentages of total points:

12" lifts - 70%
ringers/keepers - 24%
4" lifts - 6%

It would seem ramps are exceptionally important in the eliminations, at least at VCU. I'll be interested to see if the same is true for other regionals as well.

*This number could be slightly off due to the fact that I didn't write down the unpenalized scores, so I had to go back and add points back in. The cause of inaccuracy is when an alliance scored 3 ringers; this could be either 6 points if they weren't directly in a row or 8 points for a row, but I had no way to tell since all penalties were 10 points. However, the variation is minimal; 1462 assumes all the sets of 3 were in rows, and if you assume they were not, it comes to 1447.

Well I'm gonna try and give credit to 422 for helping the winners so much;)(We loaned a backup battery to 540 for the finals and our hacksaw and sawzall to 843 a number of times, not to mention all the cheering!)

But on a serious note, way to go guys, that was an amazing final match, it was very well played by both sides.

The competition was so much fun! Though my team didn't do statistically well, we learned a lot. I even had the distinction of falling asleep ON the robot while everyone was in the pits...and no one noticed. Bumpers are comfy! Congrats to all of the award winners!

congratulations to the winners of the VCU regional. although my team didnt do too well (an easy scapegoat is the 'random' scheduling) i think we have learned alot and look forward to the phily regional. Everyone at VCU did a great job and it was once again the best regional in the country.

Wanted to congratulate Team 2068, Osbourn Park. You guys did an awesome job as a first year team winning 3 awards (highest rookie seed, website award, rookie all-star), as well as beating our alliance in the quarter-finals (A-grade defense on one of the top scorers at the event). Only drawback is I question how far you'll get towards the Rookie All-Star award at nationals, but if we can do it so can a team a couple miles down the road ;) Great job guys.
