Team 1138 is coming, all the way from California.
It's funny this year, all of the regionals we are attending are back to back: LA, Boilermaker, and possibly San Diego.

Here is the list of the 2007 Boilermaker Regional(So far)

45, 85, 135, 166, 292, 573, 868, 878, 931, 1018, 1023, 1024, 1138, 1319, 1501, 1529, 1555, 1720, 1730, 1737, 1741, 1760, 1856, 1872, 1985, 1990, 2015, 2081, 2160, 2171

of course I'm from 1501 and lat year at BMR we were finalist and won the "driving tomorrow's technology award" and that all that we have done. And for all of the new teams that are coming this year its a ton of fun. And a big challenge. Can't wait!!! :D :D :D

There were 4 spaces yesterday. I checked minutes ago and then it's full!

It's a good thing we took care of it a week ago.

166 seems to have on and off years. Every other year we build a good robot that's very competitive, and then in between those years we build robots that... aren't very good.

This upcoming it is the year for 166 to do well. So watch out :D

And who knew that I-70 runs in both directions? Six Indiana teams (45, 292, 461, 829, 1646, and 1747) will be at our home regional. :D

ah yes the all so famous boilermaker. Looking forward to it this year. I think i will get involved in some of the extra stuff this year rather than just going back to the hotel room.

Does anyone know the hotels they are staying at? We usually go to the same one, which i can't remember which one it is, maybe goober can spread some ligt on that.

I was thinking if we are in the same hotel with some other teams maybe get some games going, wether its a console, card, or board game.

That'd be great.

I'm sure we'll have a couple of X Boxes linked up with Halo or something and we might be able to get a Playstation 2 (or two) over with some Guitar Hero.

I don't know anything about that. We should be signed up... I'll go check.

:ahh: were not listed! that's odd. We're meeting this evening. I'll ask about it then.

461 (West Lafayette) and 1747 (Harrison) are listed, though, so I don't know what's going on.

Yeah. It's going to be packed with teams. There are a couple teams from out of the area, as well.

166 from New Hampshire :D
878 from North Dakota
1138 from Californa

I guess you'd count the four MO teams (931, 1730, 1737, 1985) as being from the Boilermaker area?

We'll take it as a complement to be grouped with the Midwesterners from IN, MI, OH, IL. :)

Anybody know what happened to 461? They were listed as attending BMR; in the past week they've been taken off. Giving up homefield advantage?
Good luck to them at St. Louis - help represent Indiana teams well and show 'em in MO how to Boiler Up!

If in fact they're not attending the BMR, we'll have to do a "Let's all go nuts" chant in their honor.

Other sad news - 2006 BMR champ 1272 is taking the year off - we'll miss them & look forward to competing with them in 2008.

There are two teams pending for Boilermaker; is 461 one of them?

We are looking forward to seeing 461 and several other Indiana teams in St. Louis. I expect they will raise the level of competition.

And some MO teams are coming to Boilermaker, too. I have a feeling this is going to be a really good year.:)

There may be errors on the FRC site. [EDIT: Or maybe 461 is just waiting until the deadline to send their money to FIRST? Maybe Team history events includes those for which a team is pending.]

Checking 461 team history shows they are registered for St. Louis, Boilermaker, and the Championship. The Boilermaker list doesn't include 461 now, and neither does the Championship list. But they do appear on the St. Louis list.

Hay all,
If you are attending BMR, student or adult, please go to our website and register for your name badge. If you are planning to attend the social activities after the dinner Friday, it will be required.

Since we have gotten several inquiries so far, we are in fact planning to host campus and facility tours as we have in the past. Details are not yet finalized, but hope to be soon.

Thanks,

So with the robots shipped and the attending team list pretty much complete, what is this regional going to be known as...... a ringer based or lifter based competition? Let hear some strategies!

With our strategy being an end game lifter, should the majority of the teams be doing the same, the importance of each lift will become critcal. It will make each lift so important for score ratings.

Re: 2007 Boilermaker Regional!!!

We'll be using St. Louis as a practice to BMR, so by then we should be fine tuned and primed to go.

Our strategy is solely placing tubes. We'll be the team to get up your ramp. :)

1024... if you've seen, has an elevator mounted manipulator with several degrees of freedom, capable of scoring on all three levels and changing the orientation of the tube within its gripper. It can also remove tubes from the rack. Nice speedy drivetrain too... software's coming along so multi-mode autonomous as well.

Depending on how many helium baloons we can find (or how good we get at carbon fiber n such), one or two full width ramps....

well then depending on how things go we may ditch the manipulator and extend the ramps. Those build windows may be fun. :yikes:

Protronie 26-02-2007 12:29

Re: 2007 Boilermaker Regional!!!

At first when I saw the other pics I thought that gripper might have been too large to be any good but with a tube that gripper doesn't look so oversize.
I like the idea of using the wheels on the end of the fingers... shouldn't have to worry much about popping a tube.

Wish you guys were coming to Palmetto Regional in South Carolina... would like to see that gripper in action.

Well Good Luck and Have FUN!

234 is all arm. No ramps here. We may be scoreing tubes till the end in a lot of matches.

Re: 2007 Boilermaker Regional!!!

1023 will be attending, for the first time ever! As you can tell by my signature, we have been performing very well over the years and we hope that this year will be our best! We are really confident about our robot and its abilities, as well as tons of support we have from sponsors, parents, mentors, and students. However, we will see how it goes after GLR.

Our robot can score 5-6+ tubes per match (this was unobstructed practice with ideal conditions). We can also hold 1, quite possibly 2 (depending on design) robots onto our ramps.

Heh... we definitely got to know those ramps in St. Louis, as we got on them in 6 out of 6 matches in the finals.

Kudos to the Digital Goats! The rest of you have to check out this ingenious design, that 829 has put together. I really didn't understand this cam lifting mechanism until I saw it lift our robot. See you at the Armory!

All through the qualifying matches we never had two robots in our alliance capable of climbing a ramp, even one that was only 18 degrees like ours. I was wondering if our design was ever going to get a chance to be tested in battle. When you and 1444 climbed our ramp in that first quarter final match and our robot wouldn’t move, my heart sank. In the video you can see me looking down at the wheels to see if they were turning (and trying to figure out how to blame the AM transmissions for the failure) when the guy from IFI came over and reset our controller and up she went! I almost jumped out of my shoes I was so happy.

Thanks for finally showing that we weren’t crazy.

Hello to all that are attending the Boilermaker. I believe this will be the WOBOT's (Team 141) maiden voyage to the Boilermaker and we are wondering what to expect. Sounds like in years past this has proven to be fun place to be when the robots take stage. Good luck to all and we are looking forward to making new friends! We had a great time at IRI last year and from the looks of the team list many of the same teams will here. Only a couple more days before we pack the bus!

Based on our experience, you can expect a great event. As with all regionals, you'll see great teams and have a lot of fun.

Like IRI, you'll find one of the best group of volunteers anywhere making the event run smoothly. Maybe they just don't let us see them sweat, but they seem to have more fun putting it on than the participants.

Last year the competition was great. With the help of some awesome alliance partners we brought home our first gold in five years! I hope we get a chance to repeat that performance. :)

Sounds like in years past this has proven to be fun place to be when the robots take stage. Good luck to all and we are looking forward to making new friends! We had a great time at IRI last year and from the looks of the team list many of the same teams will here. Only a couple more days before we pack the bus!

You can check out our website if you want to see some of the things going on.
http://first.purdue.org/boilermakerregional

We'll have some campus and facility tours, a great team social dinner, social activities in the rec center, a ton of great teams to compete with, scholarships to give out, awesome awards ceremonies, awesome volunteers, practice field, a building packed with lots of excitement and cheering, high energy, concessions which I can say are cheaper than most places, and... hmm.. what else.. hopefully everyone will have a fabulous time! I'm not biased or anything though.. :)

Look forward to seeing everyone there!!
Thanks,

Like always, I'm in town because I stayed here for Spring Break and I have a very comfy futon for any ladies who are roadtripping and don't want to pay for a hotel room. I'm 5 minutes to the armory walking since I'm a RA in one of the lovely Purdue dorms.

As one of the home teams for BMR, let me tell all you that I'm psyched about this regional. West Laf may not have too many tourist-y things, but we have the most restaurants per capita in the US!

Oh man it’s almost here!

Boilermaker is looking tough with 3 regional champs, 1 runner up, 4 quarter finalist and 2 semi finalists coming to town and 7 seven other teams with one regional under their belts.

I can’t wait to see 1501 and 85’s amazing looking lifters in action, the lollypop licking the competition and a bunch of quality Indiana and Michigan teams in their first contest of the year.

Can anyone imagine how much better 45 will be after another week with their practice bot?

With teams from as far away as California, Puerto Rico and New Hampshire this is shaping up to be the best Boilermaker ever.

Oh and look our for the revised Goat grabber!

Edit: Major apologies to team 166

Looks like the Chop Shop (166) will be representing NH solo at Boilermaker. Not surprising -- it is a long road trip, about 1000 miles.

Congratulations on the Judge's Award and on seeding in the top third at Manchester. No match results are up on the FIRST site; how did your team fare in the eliminations?

Thanks :D

We are actually flying. So... yeah. About 4 hours between when we leave and land. There's a layover in Detroit.

And we weren't in the top 3. 1st was 501, 2nd was 175, and 3rd was 1519.

And... we weren't picked for the eliminations... we were, however, the alternate and got some nice seats in front of the field :D

It will also be nice seeing teams that we saw in Cleveland two years ago. I specifically remember 135 and 931.

KK is on the way from my hotel. I'll be in bright and early, with a couple of boxes. FIRST come, first served.

Watch out for the St. Louis teams this year.:D

Open up that URL in Windows Media Player. If you are using an older version of Media Player, you might have to use http://video.first.purdue.edu:80.

Let me know how it looks :]

Well first off thanks for getting it up... I like the different angle of your shot... but... video quality is only fair, setting kinda bright, hard to see anything without opening the control panel and and turning the brightness down.
Sound slightly muddled too.
I'm sure there will be many complaints about not looking at the field from the 50 yard line (middle point). I actually kinda like seeing the field from behind the operators point of view.

Now the sponsors logos.... grrrr. I know, I know they paying the bills but still... grrr. Thank you sponsors and Greg for making this happen.

Good luck to all there.

PS this what it looked like after adjusting for brightness...

So how are the teams doing with inspections and last minute builds/repairs?
Got things to do tomorrow so I'll miss most of the action, sat not looking so great either :(

I woke up this morning and thought to myself, "Wow, I really get to wake up and go to another regional. Isn't this awesome?" I would say people who don't get involved in FIRST just don't know what they are missing. But that is ok because we know. Hope everyone is ready for another rockin' day at Purdue. See you all there.

I'll admit to being in mental fog and being very focussed on getting our robot running better, but here's a quick report for those not here... (I can't believe nobody else has posted.)

There's a large range of readiness and operability and a lot going on in almost everyone's pit area. There are some impressive teams and a lot of energy here. Most teams are happy with how things are going. From the reports of our scouting team, I'd say this will be a step up from what I saw in Arizona last week, if for no better reason than there are a few more teams (including BOB :) ).

Good luck to all the teams today. Let's have some fun!

Thanks Mark... glad someone remember us stuck at home ;)
I'll be watching as much as I can.

Hey Greg, webcast pics a lot better today... still a tad too bright but with a slight adjustment on my end it looks good.
Thanks again for doing the webcast! :D

Glad they fixed the match algorithm.

We don’t have a single match with alliance partner with a number lower than ours

Looks like you are one of the highest numbers in pool A (the lowest 1/3 of team numbers). The pooling system the scheduler seems to intentionally use is explained here
