I agree about the music but I sympathize with Discovery for not having the royalties, it would a pretty hard task for them to track down the rights to whatever songs might be played. I was surprised though at how the lack of music does bring things down especially when it is one of those things we typically just take for granted. I think Discovery has been doing a valiant job with their coverage though I hope people are watching because watching teams try to explain what the heck an alliance is or pickings, etc. you can quickly see how outsiders may become lost quickly there are some lessons to be learned there I think. I have to wonder if the host Lori had any idea what she was getting herself int the middle of, as many of us know FIRST is not something that you can truly 'get' until you experience it. I will be curious to see if she makes any comments after the competition on her experiences.

The coverage back home may be a little blah but here it's absolutely amazing - the kids are hamming it up for the cameras, and it's probably the most vocal and loud Friday crowd I've seen in quite a while. The regional committee and the Discovery Channel have really outdone themselves with this one.

But why, oh why, does Karthik get so much face time???? :D

And the American teams sure would like to have our feelings on the event broadcast live *shameless request for attention*. :)

Wooooo!! 1565 with a semi-coherent interview on the webcast!

Also, props to 1565 for putting up 5-6 ringers by themselves (well, really with their alliance partners blocking) in their last match. 1565 really is a team where you don't want to judge by ranking alone.

Edit: On that note, as of 2:44PM, 1565 has the 7th-highest RP in the regional, despite being 62nd. Poor 1565 :(

Can anyone post the schedule of matches for the Toronto Regional? I am at work and unfortunately do not have the luxury of watching every match :-)

Thanks.

You can also email me the schedule to chiefdelphi.20.azx2@spamgourmet.com

They are tied in wins-losses with 2056 right now (5-0) so ranking points (depends on losing score) are going to make the difference until one of them loses.

I like being able to hear the crowd :).

And who will be the opposing alliance that will help them break that tie? Is there anyone here who can pull that off? We shall see. :D

FYI, 1114 received a 10-point penalty for scoring for the opposition, but obviously they had enough offensive points where the penalty didn't matter.

By the way, one hundred million billion negative kudos to the match generating algorithm system....again.

It is illegal to score tubes for the opposition.

<G21> SCORING for opponents - ROBOTS may not HANG a GAME PIECE of an opposing ALLIANCE. If this rule is violated a 10-point penalty will be assessed per infraction. If the ROBOT HANGS a KEEPER of from the opposing ALLIANCE, it will be ignored when determining the score. If the ROBOT HANGS a RINGER on an otherwise empty Spider Leg, it will be SCORED as if it were placed there by the opposing ALLIANCE.

Was a penalty assessed? (If you score enough points, I'm sure you'll gladly take a 10 point penalty to boost your oppositions score)

Well maybe we can hope that someone from Discovery USA is checking out this stream and views it as an opportunity. I'd like to see coverage like this of at least Saturday of Atlanta on the Discovery cable channel in the US (ya pipe dream I know, but hey we can dream right). I have to say again I think this coverage is a lot more faithful to FIRST than other attempts at TV coverage I have seen in the past. Also it is live which is a big plus back when ESPN use to do their thing nationals would be in April and you would have to wait until July or later to see them on ESPN. In terms of the Canada centricness remember that in Canada their are laws governing such things, although it would be cool for them to talk to one American team. I also thought it was interesting that the URL they gave out was the Canada FIRST site as opposed to USFIRST.org. It has been educational though to see how things are done up in Canada.

The only law that could possibly govern something like this would be the CanCon laws that mandate a certain # of hours of Canadian-produced content (approx 30% of broadcasted content). They only apply to broadcast TV, not webcasts. A Canadian program can certainly interview Americans if they want to.

The lack of Americans on the webcast is probably because of the lack of Americans at this regional compared to past years.

I just remembered that they interviewed an american team from Connecticut, for whom this was their 3rd regional. Forget the team though.

Can u link us with the actual video feed link please? For example when I go on this page the video that loads has this feed link:

mms://a180.v31560.c31560.g.vm.akamaistream.net/7/180/31560/44ce8bb3/fs6.insinc.com/akamai/ctv/discovery/lunareclipse07

I guess thats the lunar eclipse, thus not what we want. To get that video feed link you will need to right-click on the video and go on to the properties. It will be great if any of you who can see the video can do this and post it here.

Thanks! :)

Yes a 10pt penalty was assesed... BUT...

i belive they scored 2 tubes for the other alliance so i thought it would have been 20pts of penaltys...

*final score was 250-8
