Summer Job Opportunity: Camp Counselor in Maine

For the past two summers, I've been working as a camp counselor at Bethel Camp for the Arts, teaching robotics, rocketry, web design, and bridge building to 8-to-15-year-olds. (I actually found out about it through ChiefDelphi, believe it or not.) I'm looking at things closer to my major for this summer, but I'd go back in a heartbeat if I could.

I'm passing along the job posting from the camp; if you're of college age and a good teacher (past FLL mentors, take note), I'd encourage you to apply.

If you are looking to live and work with children in a small community, geared for bright and creative kids, feel free to fill out a staff application at www.maineartscamp.com. Salary for the month will vary from $1800-$2000, including room and board, for college age staff. For further information, contact Rick Mades, camp director, at 561-865-4330 or rick@maineartscamp.com.
The camp is held on the campus of Gould Academy in Bethel (although the two aren't affiliated otherwise), with everyone in hall-bath dorms. (And yes, you'll be able to check your email and CD.) If you have any other questions about the camp, feel free to send me a PM. I'll answer them to the best of my ability.

(Oh, and for any hardcore LEGO-heads out there, it's been all-RCX thus far.)

Re: Summer Job Opportunity: Camp Counselor in Maine

Although I haven't worked at this camp I have been working at a camp in Massachesettes doing Rocketry and other science related activities with 10-13 year olds. I have to say that it is by far the best job I have had. If any one is in the area or doesn't mind spending a summer away from home working at a camp is hands down one of the most entertaining and memorable things you will ever do. Both my parents were camp counselors(how they met actually) and still get regognized by people who went to the camp 20 some years later. The best camp counselors tend to be smarter people who love to work with others and are just a bit on the crazy side, if you can't use that same description for alot of FIRSTers that you know I would be surprised. Any way if you can look into this offer, If I wasn't already committed to another camp I probably would.

James
