2007 Chesapeake Regional

In short: Who's coming? If you are, lookin forward to it as always? :D

Still (as I keep checking) 39 spots available for veteran teams for the 'JetLag' regional and one of the biggest regionals using a single field.

Just blurt out your thoughts, random blurbs, or whatever you want about Chesapeakes! One thing is: you probably will not find me there because I just checked the calendar and Spring Break is after Chesapeakes.

While 116 won't be participation in the competition @ the USNA this year, hopefully I can be there at least on Saturday. Good luck to all the teams at this always intense event.

The Planning Committee is hard at work on the new website-give us a couple of weeks to get a lot of the new content posted.
In the meantime, I'm happy to answer any questions from teams thinking about coming to the Chesapeake. jbeatty@usfirst.org

Just sent out to registered teams.

Greeting Mentors!

* You are receiving this email because you have registered for the FIRST Chesapeake Regional.
* A special welcome to those who are visiting this Regional for the first time. The venue is one of the most scenic of all the Regionals, and the Regional Committee has been listening to feedback to continue to improve this event for all the teams.
* The Chesapeake Regional Planning Committee is in the process of creating a new website and adding lots of content in the next couple of weeks. www.chesapeakefirst.org
* Until then, I am happy to answer any questions you may have re: this event or planning your trip to this area. jbeatty@usfirst.org A few teams last year combined their trip to the Chesapeake Regional with a trip to Washington DC.
* Also monitor the www.usfirst.org site for information.
* The official hotel list has not yet been released.
* Desiree Taminelli serves as Volunteer Coordinator for the Chesapeake Regional. There is an assortment of volunteer positions open. http://www.chesapeakefirst.org/frc/volunteer.html
* Once registration closes I will send out a targeted email newsletter about the Chesapeake Regional.

Go Teams!

Re: 2007 Chesapeake Regional

It looks like Buzz is joining its RoboBee clones down here. Teams 11 (volunteered here last year and competed three years ago) and 56 are heading up to NYC while 316 (who's been going to Chesapeake's for a while) looks like its heading to UTC (wish they'd buy up ARINC or Northrup Grumman and consolidate Hartford and Chesapeake into a Super-regional at Comcast Center==which I may add will take a regional winner to redesign to be safe(notice the stairwells))

But we have many newcomers showing up:

1370 from DE (A MOE return likely?)
1975 from Massachusetts
75, 87, 204, 869, and 1676 are coming anew (we saw 87 two years ago).
(Along with all the usual invaders==203, 293, 339, 341, 614, 709, etc)

And with 9 or 21 spots left, there's still plenty of room for more==more teams from all over the place. Hopefully Chesapeake still will retain its reputation!

Team 1975 is an all girls team. I had the pleasure of meeting them and their sponsor in Boston last year.
The Brits will be back and bringing another rookie team. Three teams from the UK to sing "God Save the Queen" this year.
We are still working on the updated website and the update on hotels.

Re: 2007 Chesapeake Regional

That was definately my favorite regional last year, especially since Kilroy, Buzz, and the NASA Knights got the high score! Can't wait to go again! My Grandparents actually came to see it and were so overwhelmed by the commotion that they left :ahh: ! Well, what can you expect from a FIRST event? :p

Sent out to the registered teams-45 with 11 pending.

Greeting Mentors!
• You are receiving this email because you have registered for the FIRST Chesapeake Regional.
• Hotels: The Annapolis Conference and Visitors Bureau can serve as a clearinghouse for the teams seeking hotels. 1-888-302-2852 and ask for Joyce Baki or Andrew Heidt. Or email jbaki@visitannapolis.org or aheidt@visitannapolis.org They are contacting hotels in the area in preparation.
• The Chesapeake Regional Planning Committee is in the process of creating a new website and adding lots of content. There will be information on parking, documentation that will be needed for buses and teams entering the Naval Academy grounds, and information on services and attractions in the area. One tremendous perk at the Chesapeake Regional is that the Naval Academy allows teams to bring their own food and drinks into the pit area in Halsey Field House. www.chesapeakefirst.org
• Until the content on the website is up and running, I am happy to answer any questions you may have re: this event or planning your trip to this area. jbeatty@usfirst.org A few teams last year combined their trip to the Chesapeake Regional with a trip to Washington DC.

Re: 2007 Chesapeake Regional

P.S.: Have you expanded (or will you) the number of teams registerring? It's stuck at 55, which seems low for a Chesapeake Regional. It should be more like 65 or 70. I know it would create a crammed situation in the pits==but hey...it'll be worth it! More people to help the rookies and a much more intense regional than it already is.

Steve,
FIRST holds back some slots for late registering rookies and will figure out how many extra teams can be accommodated. It will get mostly sorted out in the next 3 weeks. Last year there were 64 teams and it was pretty cosy in the pits.

Who's pending for the Chesapeake Regional? There are supposedly 5 or more teams pending. Are these the teams that were pending before (204, 224, 405, 1676, 1895, 1975) or are there other hidden teams that I don't know about?

EDIT: I think I figured out the pending teams

204
224
405
1676
1731
1895
1975
2186

Based on 1676 and 1731 coming, this looks like a tough regional for anyone. It already has 75, 122, 175 (HOF), 341, 888 (Midwest winner), 1184, 1218 (Championship finalists a couple years ago),1629, and 1727 (second-best rookie in Championship; only to 1902) among others.

If this regional were moved to Week 4, maybe people would be talking about the Chesapeake regional. But because it just so happens to be pitted this year with Hartford (a lot tougher because of 25), New York (11 and 56). Detroit, Boilermaker, and Midwest.

OZ_341 15-12-2006 22:31

Re: 2007 Chesapeake Regional

I never really think much about comparing one regional to another. I think they all have their own character. I just know that Chesapeake has always been one that we love. We always suggest Chesapeake to other teams. looks like another great crew this year.

Who else has been to Chesapeake ever year since 2003?

I know definitely 007 has. Anyone else?

Sgraff_SRHS06 15-12-2006 23:04

Re: 2007 Chesapeake Regional

165, 1111, 836, 768, 888, 686, 1184 as a definite (All but 3 of the maryland teams around in 2003.

449 has only missed one (2005), while 53 and 1131 are either gone or in need of serious funds

611, 612, 614 definitely
122?
203?
224?

Many of the teams at Chesapeake in 2003 are no longer around....just to point out.

Sgraff_SRHS06 15-12-2006 23:06

Re: 2007 Chesapeake Regional

About comparing regionals: you sit around and look for webcasts come regional time and see which ones they pick. 100% always for Boilermaker and Detroit. I'm not so sure about Chesapeake.

After doing some quick research this is the list I came up with for teams registered for Chesapeake from 2003 through 2007.
7, 165, 339, 341, 602, 614, 686, 768, 888, 1111, 1184, 1195

It might need some corrections. I didn't see 611 on this year's list and didn't see 612 on the 2003 list. Does that seem correct?

If someone hasn't gotten back to you, you can find the team list on the FIRST web site under Regional Events, and scroll down to the Chesapeake Regional.

Re: 2007 Chesapeake Regional

The VIP list continues to grow from the United State Cabinet, the heads of major corporations, Government representatives, major grant making organizations and of course, all the VIP's associated with teams-your sponsors and the champions for your teams. We want to roll out the red carpet for each and every one of them, and will have different systems of "handling" because we have so many. There will also be lots of media at the event.

We will be using lots of "Student Ambassadors" this year and will be making assignments. Please email me the names of any students interested in being "Ambassadors." There will be a brief training on Thursday. We cannot adjust the match schedule, so best if they are not key for the drive team. jbeatty@usfirst.org
It is going to be a lot of fun!

Welcome to all the Chesapeake Regional Volunteers!

* We have a long list of VIP's and media attending the event this year.
* We are looking for FIRST alumni who would be willing to be interviewed or talk to VIP's.
* Although I know many of you, please send me your name, your former team #, former team name/location, teams you have mentored and your present job or year in college.

Thanks and see you soon.

The final decision has been made, I'll be at Chesapeake on Saturday possibly filming a live FIRSTcast. I'll be in the old skool 384 garb (blue shirt, khaki's, and orange hat.)

Be sure to read the access info on the www.chesapeakefirst.org website. Parking at the Stadium with shuttle buses to Halsey Field House (about 2 miles). Or park in Annapolis and walk through Gate 1 and then through New pass and id building.

Things are going to be a little cosy this year but all are welcome!
VIP events mostly on Friday, so Sat. is a good choice.

Thank you for the advice :) I will pass this along... Hopefully my dad and I don't get lost of too confused when we get there haha. Otherwise there will be a SOS for two 102 members :p

I'm sorry if this has been mentioned already, but is the Chesapeake Regional going to be webcasted? If yes, what's the link. Thanks.

Re: 2007 Chesapeake Regional

I'm pretty sure it's not being webcasted. I wish it was, some family members back home wanted to watch like they did the first year.

Oh God!
Yes, indeed i woke up on the noise of "Mr. Rothwell OWNED everyone in CS."

On another note:
I'm expecting Chesapeake to be pretty high scoring regional. There are some really good bots with experience upon their shoulder. If put in the right alliance, these robots can go nuts and bolts on the field and score crazy. Lets see what happens (cross-fingers).

Barring this nasty weather getting even worse, I'll be there on saturday. My dad was supposed to come down, but he's gotta work :(

I'm grateful for all the friends i've made in FIRST, cause i'm hitching a ride with some other people in the area who are also gonna be heading down saturday. [Thank you times a million!]

I'm really looking forward to seeing this weekend play out! See y'all there!

We couldn't make it personally to this regional. Could anyone please tell me where 1599 is ranking and how our bot and team have been performing?

Much Thanks in Advance!! :)

Is there any website where there are at least running stats for the non webcasted regionals?

Re: 2007 Chesapeake Regional

FIRST's website usually has match results and rankings, however, chesapeake's links seem to be down:

For going to Chesapeake for the first time, team 75 is doing rather well. Last I checked they were ranked in 3rd place. Also team 293 is doing an amazing job!! I'd also like to point out 341... comapred to the NJ Regional they are ranked higher now so congrats to them :) I can't wait to see the finals tomorrow! It's going to be a great match!!! Good luck to all teams!!!

Team 768 wants to thank all our alliance partners and opponents for a great day of competition, and we hope you all got to your hotels/homes safely. We were privileged to have a local tv reporter and cameraman come to cover the event (it's taken us 4 years of emails and conversations with a friend at the station!) - and they did an awesome job of covering the regional in a short time...here's the link http://wjz.com/seenon/local_story_075152422.html We are hoping it stays up for a few days, at least!

See you all tomorrow :-)
