SCRRF Fall Classic

The Fall Classic was amaing.

We didn't have very many teams, so we did 2v2 matches which actually made he game more exciting.

Team 968 and 1138 won overall, with two very impressive scores; 96 the first round and 126 the second round. They ended up beating 330 and 599 (who seemed to be having some radio or control problems) for the win.

Thanks to all the teams that let us borrow parts; For some reason everything, and I mean everything, on our robot found a way to break. We even managed to grind the gears inside of the KOP transmissions.

Team 294 didn't do so well, but it was an awesome event overall. I hope to see some of the same teams at the 2007 SCRRF pre-ship scrimmage, wherever it may be.

Re: SCRRF Fall Classic

Unless I heard wrong, 126 was our alliance score without the additional ramp points. We pinned down an extra robot onto the platform which gave us 25 extra points. shouldn't it be 151?

p.s. Sorry if I'm horribly wrong

Cheers!

151. That is correct indeed.

It was a great event. Special thanks to Ken Leung for coming down all the way from up north, Joseph Vanderway, Chris H, George Chen, and everyone else who helped make this great event possible!

All you teams who weren't there, you guys seruiously missed out. This event was an absolute blast! The field became a dodgeball court during lunch. :D Those boyscouts are quick I tell you!

Re: SCRRF Fall Classic

Indeed. This event was GREAT! Without the help of other teams that participated in this event, it might have not even gotten off the ground! Congratulations to all teams that participated and assisted in the event!

Cheers! :]

haha, it was great. glad to know my planning came together well. I had a blast. We are running the Vex tournement on December 16th, so im hoping we will do a good job there. Congrats to the winners, RAWC and Eagle, and thanks Beach Bots again, radio was just wierd during those finals matches. Thanks a lot to all the teams that helped set up and take down the field, especially RAWC who was there friday-sunday fixing and taking the field down. Lets hope Fall Classic continues, and that teams come together and pitch in more. I missed dodgeball, im a little mad about that, but i needed food and i walked to Del Taco. lol. great time, and hope you all had fun. I think it was a success, yet i planned the thing. ahahah. got to get back to english class. bye and thanks again.

Re: SCRRF Fall Classic

yeah, dodgeball was awesome. i was bored  , with like 30 minutes to kill, so i made and unofficial announcement that there would be a dodgeball game on the field. i orchestrated the whole thing and was a little dissapointed at first cuz there were like 5 FIRSTers against like 15 or 20 boy scouts, then a few more came in. the last match, before alliance pickings, there had to have been at least 50 people on the field at once. :p once i yelled go, all heck broke loose. and i had to do one more game with the alliance captains so i did. we slowly went for the balls, and separates to the 2 sides of the field, and started to pelt balls. then Mr van was like "this is an interesting way to pick alliances." oh well, it was fun too. hope you guys had a blast, i know i did. :D hope to see you all there next year.

ps. does anyone have a footage of the dodgeball games?

Congrats to RAWC and Eagle and Beach Bots and RoboDox........that must've been an awesome set of matches. By the way, which third robot was pinned onto the ramp?

jackie Ha 09-10-2006 19:04

Re: SCRRF Fall Classic

it was 330 that was pinned on the ramp. 1138 had pushed them up there and kept them there. then we got on the ramp and pushed againg 1138 who was pushing on 330. it was an awesome match, thanks to 330 and 599 for making it happen and 1138 for making a great alliance partner.

Re: SCRRF Fall Classic

Just wondering, is this a repetition of a regional finals matchup?

jackie Ha 09-10-2006 19:11

Re: SCRRF Fall Classic

it looked like it, the only difference was that there wasn't a 20 minute pause for a tied score and no one did the hokie-pokie. can anyone else say deja-vu.

Hey everyone,
Glad you all enjoyed the Fall Classic. As always, we're open to suggestions for what would make it better in the future, and of course, if you want to help out, we're always open to that. For those who don't know me, I'm George Chen, I was the scorekeeper/match generator (or the friendly guy in a purple hawaiian shirt). I want to personally thank Terry and Mike from 1759 for an AWESOME field control system that worked absolutely flawlessly. Also thanks to all the kids on 4 and 599 for helping out on the field, Marni from 599 for helping me organize matches, especially when the printer failed. Thanks to everyone who came, and please spread the word, I look forward to larger competitions in the future :)

Re: SCRRF Fall Classic

Thanks to SCRRF for organizing and hosting it with 599. It was a fun offseason competition to meet the other teams in the area for a little competition and fun. Besides the field which we umm...sort of destroyed during our autonomous mode, the only thing that we really thought needed improvement was the scoring, because we noticed the boy scouts were watching the game instead of doing their job, but they got better as the day went on so it wasn't that much of a problem.
Thanks again to everyone who threw it and volunteered, SCRRF, 599, and 4, you guys did an awesome job.

Re: SCRRF Fall Classic

hey, quick question, does anyone have any footage of the fall classic's matches, semi finals, finals, mini games, dodgeball, or mentor round, anything? i'd just like to know, to see if i can get a copy of it or something. also if anyone has a picture of the high score that we got in the last match of the finals, 151 pts, i'd like to get a copy of that too. thanks.

Re: SCRRF Fall Classic

I enjoyed the Fall Classic very much! even if i was just doing field reset after each match! (to me volunteering is just as good as competing :D )

thanks to everyone who made it possible!

congrats to 968 & 1138!

see all of you guys again soon!

Re: SCRRF Fall Classic

The Fall Classic was very fun, and much a success. Congrats to 968 and 1138.

Once 1138 had pushed us on the ramp, we were stuck because we had high-centered on a ball under us, and had lost drive earlier from one of the wheels on the right side. After pushing us up onto the ramp they came up and pushed us into the side wall making any attempt at escape more impossible. :D

Hope to see more teams there next year! ;)

Re: SCRRF Fall Classic

I'm sooo glad every body had a good time. We tried a few different things which all seemed to work out well. The soccer game and the mentor's round seemed very popular. So did finishing pretty much on time.

We came very close to cancelling the event. With 10 days to go we only had six teams signed up. There was no way we could cover expenses at that level of participation. Besides it would be really hard to keep audience interest. I managed to connect with a few team leaders and we picked up a few more. When we figured we would break even we decided to go for it even though we wanted more teams.

I would still like to see faster cycle times on the matches. We were cycling at 10-15 minutes per match, which is long. Much of the time seemed to be connected to battery and frequency changes. But when robots are coming off to get right back in the que and teams change their battery in line, it is hard to tell them to go faster. More robots would have actually made things better.

We could have done better on the food situation, but we didn't think there would be enough people to make special arraingements worthwhile.

I think we're going to have to build a new field, but this one is pretty old. FIRST retired it in 2001, back when robots were way less powerful. So we've certainly gotten good use from it.

So we'll do it again next year. SCRRF promises we will try to do better in the areas we know need improving and we hope teams will improve on their attendance and punctuality in letting us know they are coming.

Many thanks to all who helped. Team 599 and especially EricRobodox and Mr. Van, Team 968, Team 1138, Team 1070, Tarek Shribati, Terry Wells and Mike Neary, Team 4, Sanddrag, Ken Leung, DCAFan, JJack, the Scouts who helped score, Nancy McIntyre, IndieFan, EricH, and I must have forgotten somebody. It wasn't on purpose, honest!

Yeah, it was hard on the robot and the batteries, having 3 matches in a row, but it was fun nonetheless. The new members got a sense of how a real competition runs, so we're glad.

If I remember correctly, 1138 also had a wonderful time tearing up the center goal teo seasons ago with the tetras during our Preship scrimmage.

That is true, we lifted up the center goal during autonomous mode. Our autonomous was dead reckoning, and so it just went straight and went a tad bit too far, resulting in this. It was sorta cool though to pick up the center goal, which weighed like, 20-30 pounds, and it was velcroed and duct taped to the carpet. It's almost like tradition for us to do something crazy at the pre-ship and fall classic. lol

Had Lot's of fun everyone, great time, and yeah, sorry about the field, I should've pulled the plug during autonomous. ><

hahaha. well, im glad people had fun. i had a blast. the dancing and the good time. hardly even felt pressure when i drove. lol. hopefully this upcoming year we can keep the fun level high. I remeber last year we took our mock goal, not the center (we never were able to build a center goal) and we raised it and capped our president that year. ahhaha. those robots were pretty powerful two years ago for Triple Play. I cant wait for kickoff now. lol.

hey, yeah i had a blast with everything. the matches, the robot soccer, dodgeball, everything. not to mention, i got to drive the first time. unfortunately our practice bot wasnt running right, but i still got 2 pts for out alliance. :-D and watching our mentors drive. wow, now that was interesting to see.

side note, thanks to 1138 (our alliance partners in the previous match)for the lovely dent in our shield when you guys rammed us at high speed in the mentor round. ;)

hope to see you all at the cal games or the pre-shipping scrimmage. later

I'm so glad everyone had a good time.

Having finally driven a 'bot in competition, I have to say - wow! That's rather difficult!

Thanks to everyone who helped make the event possible!
Thanks especially to Chris Hussman who really made things come together.

Can't wait until Kickoff! (But don't forget about the FVC on Dec. 16th at CSUN!)

We 1070 wants to say they had a total BLAST!.. although we didn't make it as far as we wanted.. and we had some problems w/ the ball, we can't are amazed at all the work put into this competition. so applause for all those who helped.. and just a comment.. seems like a repeat of SoCal Regional huh.. so i was wondering.. wat would happen if 1138 and 968 didn't team up? :yikes:

Wait, just asking and I know it's out of topic, but 1070 would love to help out at the VEX SoCal games. How about it 599? We've been trying to get Mr. Shraibati to let us do the social.

1070, please contact Ralph Mills in regards to the SoCal VEX. He's the main coordinator.
