Ruckus Dodgeball

1 Attachment(s)
Due to the success at IRI, one of the fun events at the Ruckus is dodgeball. We don't have as much time to play so the rules will be a little different. The basic concept is that each FRC team that comes to Ruckus will be able to choose 5 players to represent their teams in a dodgeball match. For each match they play, they can choose 5 different people if they so choose.

There won't be a signup on CD, it's just to promote it. You will be able to sign up at the event itself. The whole rules are attatched. Anyone interested? :D

You gonna handle this Josh?
I'm gonna be busy with the raffle and I'll handle the Pie in the Eye reaffle and even sell some shirts so I won't have time to do this (btw when are we finding time for the Vex?)

Re: Ruckus Dodgeball

yea, im in charge of it. Vex will be in between some of the matches (Fun event slots). The field will just be brought out on to the FRC field.

The story behind this statement is that one day last season we were working all night on the robot. At around 2 am we decided we needed to take a break and have some fun. Dodgeball was immediately suggested. We got into a large hallway, made teams and play. Rees and I, the only two mentors actually playing the game, eventually meet. I hit Rees in the leg with a ball. As this happens, I see him plant one foot and turn with the other to get out of the way of the ball. Lets just say, he was not walking for awhile.

That's just because I have no ACL. (old indoor soccer injury). I could always wear my brace & whoop up on Ed.

When he hurt himself... we all thought that he was kidding, and with it being Rees, we didn't take him seriously.... but we soon found out he wasn't. We wheeled him back into the robotics room on a computer chair. But Rees didn't let this injury keep him down. he still oversaw everything on his throne. ;)

Count me in! :]

This brings up an idea. Should there be a mentor only dodgeball free-for-all? Just a thought. I would be interested if this was formulated.

I bet Karthik would be the hardest guy to hit. He so small. wiry and agile no one would come close to hitting him while the rest of us seem hobbled and overwieght.

idk, i was thinking about making that. Also, mentors can be on the team too, not just students!

Besides players we also need refs and an announcer. I'm hoping Steve will announce this and maybe the game refs. Just a thought how it might be easier.

Just a thought. Maybe you could have a free-for-all tournament, in addition to the individual team tournament. Have students sign up saying they want to play. Then you guys organize us into teams, that way were with kids we don't know... This would be great team building, and make the Rochester FIRST group even stronger by building new relationships and meeting new people. Also, this way, people like Alex who don't have a specific team can still play.

Here's the latest:

We arn't going to have another tournament because we don't have the time!!

However, for those who don't have a team....you can ask around. It will be easy if you are alumni, then you can go with your previous team. Because many teams around the area are volunteering, im sure there will be some room especially on team 1511.

I can't wait, its gonna be awesome!!

When one of the new students to the team dodged the robot after hitting the controls by accident with a ball I thought of this: If you can dodge a robot, then you can doge a ball.
