the closest mall is a good 20-30 minutes on rt. 1 so um not really walking distance plus there are litteraly no fast food restaurants nearby and only a couple of grocerystore/deli's about 5-7 blocks away so i think getting food in the SBA would be a wise thing to do. trust me i live two blocks down from the SBA |
Re: 2007 New Jersey Regional
As far as food goes, the Concession stands will be open for the crowd, also there is the option to get the boxed lunch.
|
Re: 2007 New Jersey Regional

And there's a few pizza places and chinese food places that are also down the street (opposite direction, but you can't get lost). They're only like 3 blocks away. My team walks there every year. And, there's actually a whole list of places to eat if you don't want concession food here: http://www.nycnjfirst.org/nj_restaurants.html I do recommend the box lunch deal though, it's not that bad. A sandwich, a piece of fruit, a bag of chips & a soda. It's WAY cheaper than concession stand food, and you don't have to walk in the freezing cold. Quote:
Regardless, you have to prepare for the cold because it will still be on top of ice. IT WILL BE COLD, there's nothing we can do about that. Our team wears 2 pairs of socks and a sweatshirt/long-sleeved shirt underneath our team shirts. We all know it sucks, but at least you KNOW about it. Which means you can take the appropriate actions to better protect yourself. |

And as for College Ave/Rutgers. The NJ regional is held right during Basketball season, so the RAC is pretty much out...and if we went back to College Ave then the NJ regional would then be smaller than the NYC regional of past years where there were only 26 or so teams. |
Re: 2007 New Jersey Regional
Simply put, we don't FIT in the College Ave gym anymore.
I am going to suggest that we find out if we can use the basketball floor. My mom made a good point that we are between two hockey games and they probably don't want to switch the floors, but they are doing it for the Harlem Globetrotters the next week, so maybe they'll do it for us too. I'll bring it up, but I can't make any promises. Frankly, it isn't NJ FIRST that's letting you down, it's the SBA who can't be bothered to solve the problem. FIRST is coming up with as many temporary solutions as we can, but the SBA has sort of tied our hands. |
Re: 2007 New Jersey Regional
pff, rutgers stadium, duhhhh, then id only have to walk down the street to get there, then again outdoors might be a little problem eh?
anyhow, 1279 will be there, fighting for our third straight NJ championship in 4 years of existence hoping for new floor, we got sick last year..:( |
Re: 2007 New Jersey Regional
Quote:
I have to reiterate what Sara is saying. NJFIRST is doing everything that they can to get the new floor, and I assure you that the floor will be better than it was last year. As far as the cold goes...if you get a little chilly just start dancing! That should warm you up in no time. We have a mascot pit in the front but there's always room for a few plain clothed friends. Other than that...only 36 days left until the regional...let's make it a blast!!! |
Re: 2007 New Jersey Regional
It's official...if you simply glance to the top of the page you'll see a nifty little countdown til the NJ Regional!!!
30 days and counting! Who can wait? I know I can't! |

Re: 2007 New Jersey Regional
Hot off the presses, the issue of the floor has been resolved at SBA!
If memory serves me right, we had a horrible cardboard flooring at SBA last year, which not only disintegrated and was a horrific tripping hazard. This year we will still have that down on the floor (SBA supplies that since it's their ice rink) but NJ FIRST will be putting down Masonite sheeting on top of the cardboard flooring which will significantly decrease not only the dust but will also provide a much safer foundation on which to walk on. |
Re: 2007 New Jersey Regional
Last year's floor was a Homasote product: http://www.homasote.com/id.html

I'm proud that I did not get sick, despite spending virtually all of my time in the pits - but I did wash my habds at least 15 times a day all three days, wore gloves a lot, and even then was super careful about NOT touching my mouth, nose, eyes, etc. See you there! What makes our trip more expensive is chartering a bus to take us from NJ on a tour of New York after, including stops to the Statue of Liberty and Empire State Building tours, for a total of 6 hours. Then we are staying near Times Square for 3 days to enjoy NY. Total cost for 25 people. $37,000 not including spending money.:( Our team members are also on our Electric Vehicle team. We spent November in NY and raced in New Hampshire also. Then our team flys back home and go back 2 1/2 weeks later to Vegas for our second regional, then come home and possibly go back 3 weeks later to Atlanta for the championships. Thats a lot of cookies to sell.......~$100,000 worth of expenses per year........:) |

Re: 2007 New Jersey Regional
Originally 108 was supposed to compete in NJ, but for one reason or another they weren't able to, but apparently there's a rumor floating around that 108 is sending up a couple of kids to be in charge of the webcast...maybe one of the students of the team could shine some further light on the subject.

The weather will be (relatively) warm, low to mid '40s during the day, high 20's to low 30's at night, with rain on Friday tapering off Saturday early. Right now we are having snow, Trenton only a few inches, up here in the north a few more inches. Likely no school tomorrow (but I gotta go to work). So our Hawaiian friends will see snow, and not freeze to death. Folks, stop by 1676 pits and say hello! Don |
Re: 2007 New Jersey Regional
Hey all, I was just wondering, what is your list of top 8-10 teams at the regional.
|
Re: 2007 New Jersey Regional
Quote:
Now onto my list...in no particular order 341 237 25 1279 103 75 177 this list could go on for a while, but the point is, no matter which way you slice it...the competition is stacked. |
Re: 2007 New Jersey Regional
yeah im gonna add 375 to that list, they've been in the finals 2 years in a row now... and also 303 is generally pretty good, i expect to see them near the top if not in the top 8,
I was surprised to see that 56 wont be attending this year. They were always good competition at the event, I wonder why they decided not to come... how mentors actually go to rutgers? i do, and i am wondering what the rest of you are doing as far as class goes.. i know dean rankin does alot of stuff with the event so do you get excused absences if you have assignments due and things like that? I wont have a problem because i have fridays off and only a couple classes thurs, but I am wondering what all you people do |

Re: 2007 New Jersey Regional
Hrm. I'm suppose to be doing Bio homework...and yet...I wandered onto CD! I guess I get distracted easily! (or maybe its because I belong here all the time?)
Erm. Anyway! YAY! I'm really excited this year, the competition is going to be tough, but I still wanna wish everybody luck! Its going to be really exctiting this year. Why? Because I'm going to be there of course! ....I kid. Not really. ;) Yay NJ Regional! ...Now onto that there bio homework of mine.... |
Re: 2007 New Jersey Regional
After the 3rd most stressful week in this past year this week (bought a new car this week and a few other stressful events happened), the promise of getting on a bus and "relaxing" at a competition this weekend sounds like a nice vacation for me.
See everyone there. If you want to find me, just look for the person covered with the most blue and orange imaginable.. maybe. w00t for team colors and planning ahead! :D :D :D Oh, and keep an eye out for the Banana costume in and around 237's pit area. It's making an appearance in NJ to start off the season right. :yikes: |
Re: 2007 New Jersey Regional
Looking forward to dropping by this weekend!
Be nice to your pit inspectors! ;) |
Re: 2007 New Jersey Regional
SOOOOOO Excited!
I currently am on crutches [pretty bad knee injury] so, look for the girl who's either on crutches, or, if my dad allows, a segway. =] Stop by 1923's pit and say hello! We'd love to meet ya! |
Re: 2007 New Jersey Regional
Im looking forward to driving down from Boston on thursday night (with a car full of NU-Trons) to go check out the NJ Regional on friday and saturday...

Re: 2007 New Jersey Regional
Well I just got home from the arena and I have to say...there sure are a lot of purdy crates in the back! And the floor looks quite nice. I can't wait for Friday, I'd go tomorrow but I have class all day (stupid teachers not letting me go)
See you all then! |

in one of the last practice matches i watched 25, all alone for the blue alliance, dominating the match. they scored 5 tubes on the highest rack. they were going for their 6th but it fell off as the match ended. not sure if they were all in a row but they one the match 64-0.
|
Re: 2007 New Jersey Regional
So everyone, after one day of the regional, who are your top 8 teams?
|
Re: 2007 New Jersey Regional
after seeing a day of action (or well half a day at least, I had class this morning :/ ) heres some things that caught me by surprise...
1. the tubes are that easy to get on the rack, takes time and precision 2. not too many working autonomous programs yet, maybe people are hiding them, but still, not many even with all that talk about getting the cmu cam working 3. It takes alot longer than expected to climb a ramp 4. 75% of the teams there have ramps! Sooo, all in all, the game reminded me alot of two years ago... the first day of the comp in 2005 was rather slow and it seemed like the tetras just werent a great idea for a game... but it turned out to be my favorite of them all. Some top teams (that I saw); 25, 375, 75 looked promising, I didnt see too much tho being in the pit most of the time |
Re: 2007 New Jersey Regional
Any robot pictures from today's competition?
|
Re: 2007 New Jersey Regional
From what I saw on the webcast, 25 and 237 look pretty good.
I feel like 25s arm is going to snap off though! It wobbles ALOT... |
Re: 2007 New Jersey Regional
I'll snag some pics and video tomorrow. I've got equipment on loan from AGHS :D
Look for the pale kid in the backwards fire helmet, yelling loudly. |
Re: 2007 New Jersey Regional
237 scored a keeper at 2:41PM today.
We tweaked the autonomous a little bit and are expecting a LOT better results tomorrow. |
