It was a great fall day for the Duel on the Delaware today.

We had a terrific showing for the FIRST Vex Challege, Hangin A-Round Scrimmage. About 16 teams showed up to face off on the official FVC field.

Thanks to Joe Perrotto and his Vex team for putting this on.

Thanks for hosting the event. I know I speak for all of us here at Dawgma when I say that we had a great time! Hope to attend next year and look forward to seeing you guys at Ramp Riot. :D I'd also like to thank teams 84 and 1647 for assisting us in the playoffs, you all did a great job.

The pre rookie, 1980, was a replacement for 423 in the last match. They looked good too. And a big FIRST thanks to 225 for letting them use their bot. :D

So I've just gotten home from a very tiring, yet absolutely amazing day at the Duel.

A big thanks to Team 316 and MOE for putting on a well ran event. Also to our alliance partners 365, 423, and 1980. You were all excellent to work with, very cooperative, and overall just great people - good job guys. Also thanks to Alliance 7, and many of the other teams for putting up some tough competition.

It was also fun to meet some other members of CD, such as Cuog and Billfred.
And I'm sure Tina enjoyed getting sang Happy Birthday to her by the entire crowd. ;)

DoD provided excellent practice for our new drive team, and a first experience of what FIRST is about for our new freshmen. Team 25 had a blast, and will definitely be back next year. But for the time being, we hope to see many of you at Brunswick Eruption 5 (there's still time to sign-up) and Ramp Riot.

I'm on team 423 (though i had to leave early today, before the third match in the first elimination match. i was the human player up to that point) and i'd like to say congrats to all the teams that played at the Duel. It's always a lot of fun to play with fewer robots, and while it's not as satisfying to play for only one day as it is to play for 3, I had a lot of fun today (and a good ammount of stress as well). I'm glad to hear that our alliance won, though i'm sure it was a great competition all the way through. Again, congrats to all teams in the Duel this year, and a special thanks to 1980 for filling in for us (what was wrong with our robot in the last match?).
Good luck to everyone in any other off-season events you may have, and good luck with the 2007 game. I hope it's as much fun as the one this year was.

What did the scores at the competition look like? With these alliances, I could see some three digit numbers being put up easily.

The high score was in the second finals match, with a score of 104 to 59, with alliance #1 winning.

Remember, even with these awesome robots, many teams were trying out new drivers, so scores might not be as high. I will say, even with new drivers, alliances in both qualifying and eliminations matches were playing this game hard and fast.

I especially liked the A-Bomb on the ramp between the Tigertrons, Team 222, and Royal Assault, Team 357. I believe this happened in the first match of the quarterfinals. It was a brilliant play and fun to watch live.

It was great, we had a very high scoring final match, 105 - 59 was very high for both alliances involved. I also ran into some members of 25 and Bilfred once or twice as well

Thanks for an amazing time guys. It was my first off season event ever, and boy did I pick a good one.......thanks to MOE and Lunatecs for putting on the event......for Rai and Sam and Ilana for "adopting" me, and to all the teams for participating. Congrats to the winning alliance, and to the finalist alliance, and to all the other alliances too.......you all were great.

Thanks to Wayne and Bill for being a great MC/announcer pair, and to Carol for being head referee.

Thanks to Mike for getting the field set up, and working, and thanks to all the referees for doing a great job.

I had a great time, and am looking forward to next year and this season even more!

On behalf of team 1089, I'd love to thank teams 369 and 422 for being amazing alliance partners. We had a fantastic shooting bot in 369, a fantastic defense and low-scoring bot (that vaguely reminded me of a snowmobile) in 422, and with us, what I refer to as a "jack-of-all-trades, master of none", it made a pretty well-rounded alliance.

Going into the alliance selection off a 1-4 record, we were very pleasantly surprised to have been picked at all, let alone passing the quarterfinals. And making it to the finals against 25, 365, and 422, all I could do is go up to Wayne C. and say "please don't completely destroy our machine, we want to compete in BE in 2 weeks". When you go into the finals against national finalists and two other fantastic teams with "2/3 working" bot on our end (our balls kept jamming and we couldn't figure out why), you pretty much know how it's going to end up, but we played our hearts out anyway and didn't leave disappointed. As one of my kids said "how can you feel bad getting beat by 25"?

This competition was meant for us to teach some of our new students about jobs done at an FRC competition. We had a small amount of pit scouting, round scouting, etc...we also tried to emphasize improved communication between our students and mentors -- and we did it with flying colors. Coming home with a finalist trophy only pushes some kids harder to do even better in the future.

Thanks to 365, 316, Mike Wade, and all the volunteers who made Duel5 an amazing success!! Our students had a fantastic time, the event ended at a reasonable hour, and everyone was courteous and professional. Also thanks to John LaRock and the announcer (who I forget his name, I'm sorry) for helping to push our upcoming FLL competition (Mission: Mercury)!

Congrats again to 25, 423, 365, and 1980 for "doing the duel!"

BTW, I don't know if anyone else noticed, but team 1089 got significantly louder after qualifying rounds. That was because the rest of their team finally arrived from taking PSATs. We almost doubled in size after lunch :).

For my first time at the Duel, I have to say it was one of the most relaxing competition atmosphere's I have ever been in. Carney's Point was far enough away from the city to not be "bussling" and yet close enough to be easily accessible. Everyone was very friendly, and many students had high spirits!

As always a very extended thanks to Mike for his traveling field.

Thanks to Dawgma for letting us run with you in the finals. You guys definitely have an amazing rookie robot, and I wish you the best of luck this year.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at Ramp Riot!

It was indeed 104-59. There weren't any penalties or changes.
Finals match 2 was also the highest score of the day.

Thanks for the feedback. Jamie Ginn (aka Miss Delaware 2006) is a real down-to-earth person. Unfortunately, we did not have time to get to know her background better. She loves her hybrid car and has received recognition from the Environmental Protection Agency.

As she mentioned, she is only one of two 2006 Miss America contestants, who are engineers (I believe the other is Miss Wisconsin).

Team 369 would like to thank "MOE" and "Lunatecs" for hosting such a great event. Our entire team wants to thank the referees, volunteers, and the fellow teams for making our first year at Duel on Delaware extremely fun and worthwile.

Also we would like to thank our teammates 422 and 1089 for being so great. Just the experience of playing with them made it worth being there, and as for the final matches, we couldnt ask for more worthy opponents thanks 25 and 365. We hope to see everyone in BE in 2 weeks.

BTW: We thought we wouldnt be able to play seeing as we forgot our controls at school. :rolleyes: After running around and scouting for parts we managed to stitch a controller of 3 joysticks, 2005 OI, a piece of metal board, and a A LOT of ducktape. Anyway we had a blast, hope to see you all soon!

Thank you for everyone who came to the Duel! I spent a lot of time with the Vex teams so extra thanks to them! You guys were a lot of fun!

And to all my teammates, the LuNaTeCs, parents, friends, FIRST representatives, Miss Delaware, and everyone else who was there being a volunteer, you were AMAZING, thank you so much for your hard work! A special thanks to Mr. Enslen, it is his mile long spread sheets that ensure everything gets done.

I came back into the FRC competition in time to watch the final two matches (and somehow ended up announcing the last one...thanks Bill!) It was totally awesome watching the 25, 365, 423, and 1980 win. This is the first time MOE has ever won their own event! I know we were all pretty excited about that. Thank you 25, 523, and 1980 for helping us do that!

Team 1980 would also like to thank Teams 365 and 316 for hosting a terrific event, Mike Wade for the arena , the entertaining announcers, the very fair referees and the legions of volunteers. Our goal walking in was to expose this pre-rookie team and their parents to what a FIRST competition was all about. This of course would not have been possible without the graciousness of team 225 and their mentor for lending us their robot.

It was an enormous thrill to be able to join teams 365, 25 and 423 as part of the winning alliance. What a memorable day!

I'm sure there will be as I'm looking forward to seeing them too, but won't seeing them just make you regret missing the event more? j/k completing homework assignments is reasonable. Too bad though, we were hoping that you would take a few spins at the mic as our guest MC.

PIC REQUESTS
-For all of you award winners, can you take a picture of the trophies? The Duel trophies are a work of art.
-A picture of the dumbfounded and mortified looks on the faces of our birthday girls Tina from 25, who turned 16 and Katie from 1089, who turned 17 at the Duel, standing in the middle of the field as the crowd sang them a happy birthday.

I echo what everyone has said MOE and the Lunatecs put on a great event. I had high expectations going into the Duel, but the event far exceeded all of them. It was evident that the organizers spent a lot of time and attention. The sheer TONNAGE of books collected in the book drive blew my mind, the great guest speakers (Miss Deleware being a Dupont Engineer was really cool), the banners as well as the spray painted team numbers on the carpet squares at each pit (I really thought this was a nice touch), the Vex Scrimmage, the Talon Bot and 357 Mechanum WheelChair Demonstrations, the abundance of volunteers, and the overwhelming spirit and sportsmanship demonstrated by all of the teams made for one heck of an offseason competition. Congratulations to all of the teams, but especially to the Champs and the Finalists for the GP they exhibited with the inclusion of a pre-rookie team into the finals. I believe the two posts from 1980 earlier say how much they got out of it. You gave them a great introduction and welcome to the world of FIRST.

To all of the Duel planning committee I thank you for having me come down. It was an honor to work alongside so many great volunteers and a pleasure to meet and talk to so many attending the Duel. Thanks to the team de Special thanks to Joe and Carol Perotto for picking me up and hosting me for a night, as well as Pete K for the ride back to the airport in his S4! I had a lot of fun at the Duel. This is a great event and I would highly recommend it to other teams considering an off-season in the future.

That is AMAZING!!!! 600... my camera can't hold that many with just the one video card. I took over 150 at Duel, and my wasn't even competing haha.

I really wanted to attend, I was so bummed out that could not come. My teaching class has me doing a lot of work this semester. I am def without a doubt next year going to attend and help out, I making that promise right now.

I actually brought two cameras with us, each with a 1 GB card in them. They each could take about 270 pictures, and I maxed out both cards... :ahh:

Actually, I included the pictures from the day before when we demoed a few Vex bots at the Franklin Institute in that count, So we really only had about 540-550 for the day, which is still pretty impressive.

At least we'll have a few good shots of our team in action... I hope...

That's still very impressive. I used to have 2-1 GB cards and a a 512 MB. Those 3 held about 400 in total. I upgraded to a 2 GB... And I just looked at it and forget what I said before cause it holds 663 pics. I can't wait for Regionals... I know I'll be maxing out the card each day haha. Us photographers can get a lil crazy sometimes, no? Lol. And I hope with all those pics that you got some nice ones :)

Well, today is our first post-Duel team meeting, so if anyone brings pictures, I'll request the Katie!1089 photo. I'm sure we have it SOMEWHERE, if not on video. Because we just love to tease our teammates. I'll also check out whatever else we have with our media chairperson, and upload some stuff soon.
