Re: [OCCRA]: The best so far????

Seeing that am a girl, I don't see what or how this could be sexist in any way. Personally the only schools I see that would have trouble in getting girls would be team 573, 9 those would be the only teams that I would see who have the right to complain. Our team started out with about 9 girls and we are now down to about three main ones. I believe that if your team does not have girls interested in robotics then, that is no one's fault at all. Having the girls competition should not be looked at sexist at all. I believe it is a great opportunity for woman to get involved and to make something of themselves. Giving the woman that actually do help build and organize their team to drive and show what they are capable of. :) :roll eyes:

And umm... why wouldnt our school (2) have trouble getting girls (and I'll assume you are talking about getting girls on the team).

out of a HUGE school your team could only get three girls...

i agree and im not blaming anyone. I'm just saying we have to abadon sexist policys because not only are they sexist but some schools get an advantage!

this part made me cry... you are saying that without a womens compitions women are incapalbe of being a part of robotics! you are saying the women dont have the skill to compeat with men without any advantages! your own team i belive uses women drivers normally and seems to be doing fine... clearly women dont need any advantages...

sorry for the poor spelling through out this post.

Let's drop the sexist thing alright these are the rules that occra made we all have to deal with them, and it hurts some, but you have to overcome it and STOP crying. Your coach could have attended the coaches meetings that were held and could have voiced his opinion so take it up with him if you guys are having such problems. :)

heh we arnt crying. We are just pointing out that some teams look better or worse then they actually are because of the scoring system.

That's what scouting is for. :) Good Scouting is better than relying on the ranking system.

Well our team does not go by rankings or standings. We have scouts that work on that and we know that you guys are one of the best teams out there, and that is not going unrecognized. You guys are getting credit especially from our team. All I am trying to say is that complaining on this website is not going to change the way things are done. There are many meetings and stuff like that before and after each season for your coach to voice his opinion. I understand that it might hurt your rankings but that doesn't matter you guys have a good machine. :)

There is nothing wrong with the scoring system. They simply take your scores and add them up. Then at the championship, if you went to all the competitions, they drop the six lowest scores on your record, if you didn't go to all the competitions the drop the two lowest scores. then they add the scores up then divide by 12 and get the averages and thats where they get the rankings.

No one's excluded. We've had to recruit girls from OTHER teams in past years to help out at the girls competition.
Now can we please drop this debate over the girls competition and scoring system? This really isnt an appropriate or productive place to discuss the issues.

Did those girls you recruitedfrom other teams actuallly help build and design your robot? cause if they didnt you missed the point of the female compition

Re: [OCCRA]: The best so far????

No, but the girls on our team who DID help build our robot wouldnt have been able to compete without them.
The point is, this whole debate is getting out of hand. Can we please just put our comments on the feedback survey at the end of the season?
