How to hook up a Police light on the Robot??
Need some suggestions. How would you hook up a Police Light or a light bar onto a FRC Robot? We want to attempt it for public relations purposes.
Example: http://www.theelectronicsshop.co.uk/police%20lights.htm Any other cool LED light ideas? -Ray |

I see that your number is fairly high, so I'm guessing your team joined after 2003.
2003 was the last year of the rotating light you speak of as an actual implementation in the kit of parts for the robot. If no one answers your question before I have a chance to, I will grab the manual from those years gone by and get the correct specs on how to hook up the rotating light as put forth by FIRST. It should still work on the newer electrical systems provided with the FRC kits of today. |
Re: How to hook up a Police light on the Robot??
I can answer this one. A spike. M+ is positive m- is negative. actually it really doesn't matter because the light part isn't polarity sensitive, and the motor will either go forward or in reverse. If you are in a FRC comp you can just hook the positive lead in a circuit panel beaker-side. and the negative to the negative area. ALL SET! :)
edit: one problem... :ahh: the ones listed are 220V you'll need to buy 12vdc ones otherwise it could get complicated with inverters. |

Most auto parts stores can help you with a 12 volt light. or you can try this Link.

Be careful when you buy the types of lights because i know i have some that dont rotate but have 2 lights that are on top of each other and switch back and forth. If you wire it up wrong it doesnt do any damage but it wont switch i will just have both lights on at the same time.
