Lets walk in the mall!

I had this conversation with a fellow classmate.

When walking in the mall do you walk on the right side as if it was a road and such?

One of the other thoughts were does the other countries like Britian who drives on the opposite side of the road for us, walk on the opposite side of the malls like thier roads would be?

Also do you just take the side that is moving the fastest/slowest?

just some thoughts to ponder.

I walk to the right, assuming nothing else keeps me from doing so.

I walk in the dead center... VERY rapidly. Woodfield is packed so it is like a maze to get where you are going sometimes.
I will look around the next time I go shopping and see how people walk.

Right side. Its the same in schools and such, you always travel on the right.

Normally the right side, but sometimes I like to be different and walk the left!

I usually walk on the right hand side when I am traveling a long distance. Even if I'm on "the left hand side" of the mall, I will walk towards the right to stay out of other people's way. I think it's just one of those things that everyone does subconsciously.

Normally, it is a (usually) unwritten rule that you walk on the right side. (at least, that's how it is here.) I, myself, usually walk on the right side, just since its easier (since most other people walk on the right too.) I have no idea about the other countries...I'll ask my best friend. (who just happens to be Scottish)

Maybe it has something to do with dextrosity (is that a word?). I'm definitely going to look this up now. I'll let y'all know when I figure it out!

I honestly don't think it has to do with the side of the road you drive on...I don't drive but I do walk on the right...

I travel to Japan every two years, and I know for a fact that road direction influences walking patterns. People in Japan walk on the left side of the sidewalk. Even simple things like Japanese airport escalator arrangements accomodate for this subtle difference.

When it is crowded, I find a weak spot and exploit it. :p

As a self-respecting sociopath, malls frighten me and I avoid them whenever possible. Though in most cases I try to walk on the left, just to be strange.

I hate going to the mall, because of all the people who can't walk correctly. You get these lines of like 4 girls side by side taking up the whole walkway, walking so slow they might as well be standing still (and often they do), and you come up right behind them, eager to get through, and they have no idea you are even there.

And if it isn't that, you're getting little kids running in and out of your legs, your feet getting run over by strollers, or people with way to much stuff banging their gigantic shopping bags into you.

I try to walk where people aren't

We have mall walkers. Folks who walk the malls for exercise. There have been maps posted on how to walk the mall for these people and most shoppers follow that lead.

During holiday shopping though, there's plenty of individual expression shown in where to walk in the mall and how to.
