Re: PS3 + WII... who was waiting or will wait???
So to get this thread somewhat back on topic, here's my story of waiting in line for my Wii after an exhausting weekend.
I woke up at 5 AM Saturday morning for Ramp Riot, and returned home somewhere between 7 and 7:30 PM. At 8:30, my mom and sister were going to go to Target to pick up a couple things, and I went along, curious to see how many people were lined up already. (I already knew that this specific Target had 69 confirmed Wiis in stock.) We arrived at around 9 o'clock, and counted approximately 30 people in line. We bought what we needed, and I picked up a 3 pack of controller gloves/wrist straps. As we were leaving Target I decided to wait in line, and had my parents bring a chair + blankets. The store was opening up at 8 AM, but at 7 they were going to distribute tickets to the first 69 people in line, guaranteeing them a system. Both the store management and those of us waiting in line were all very cooperative and organized. A list was started with the names of those who were already in line (at 10:00), and as more people came, their name was added to the list. (This was to prevent cutting in the line, saving spots for friends who weren't there yet, etc.) At this time, I was number 36. The night went by pretty quickly, a bunch of us were playing multiplayer Mario Kart DS, and the group to my right had a fire going. By around 2:00, the line had exceeded 69 hopeful customers. The list of the first 69 people that we had created was given to the management as they came in for their shift. At 7 o'clock, the manager came outside and announced how the tickets guaranteeing a console would be given to the first 69 people in line, and those who do not receive one might as well just leave and go home or try a different store. She stated that she had saw our list, but that they could not follow it, despite the urge of the majority of those in line. When the tickets were given out, everyone was two numbers behind than what they had been on the list. Along with the ticket, we were given a card with a checklist of games and accessories. When 8 o'clock arrived, everyone went into the store to the electronics department in numerical order, and we were called up to claim our Wiis, and checkout. At first the process was taking a while due to credit card problems, but it soon sped up, and as we were waiting in line, an employee would gather all the items checked on the accessories list, and deliver them to you. I ended up leaving the store at around 9 AM, about 12 hours later from when I had originally took my place in line. |

Re: PS3 + WII... who was waiting or will wait???
I'm not going to pay $600 for a console (I'd be better off getting a laptop).
I don't want a Wii (Kiddie games do nothing for me) So it looks like the Xbox 360 is the best bet out there for me. But I think I'll Wait and see and just keep playing with my PSP at work on my breaks and on long trips. Can't do that with a console. |
Re: PS3 + WII... who was waiting or will wait???
I worked on Friday from 12pm-12am, then on saturday from 930am-12am...as I'm leaving work I get a call from my friend asking me to wait with him in line for him to get one, and then he asked if I'd buy one and his parents pay me back so his brother can have one for Christmas (he no longer lives with his family)
So we get there around 12:30 and there were about 12 or so people ahead of us...and as time went on, we found ourselves really bonding with those around us, someone would go to Dunkin Donuts to get coffee, and another would go to the diner (great to be in Jersey) and get soup for everyone. Then when the 30 people got there (Wal-Mart only had 30 units) they let the group into the foyer of the store so we didn't have to wait in the cold. So at 5 o clock they give the 30 people their vouchers. The vouchers mean that if you have this piece of paper, you're entitled to buy the system. No sooner did people have the vouchers in their hands then they started selling them. One guy sold his for $150 because he worked at Best Buy so he'd get one regardless. Around 5:30 a boy around 17-18 years old came in and asked if anyone was willing to sell their voucher. One guy sold his to the boy for $300 dollars. Immediately after selling it the guy booked out of there...later we found out that the guy led the boy to believe that the system was paid for, not that he'd have to shell out the cost of the system. Of course everyone felt bad, but eventually the boy got his money, and realized that he should have asked. Then we realized over the exictment, if we were in the same position, we would've done the same thing. At 7 they opened the doors and we got our Wiis, I take the system over to my friend's house to get the money from his mom...she gives me the money and my friend goes "Merry Chirstmas George" he bought me a Wii!! Not only was I exstatic over that, but we really don't get to hang out much, so waiting with him and just hanging out for 7 hours...I truly feel that was the real present. Sorry about the long post, I just wanted to share my story of waiting on line. |

I work at a major electronics retail store. What the mangers tell you isn't always what is the truth. Its to save themselves in case things do happen and they dont come in and also so that the retailor's calls about the systems get reduced. Last year for the 360 Launch, I worked at Customer Service. 9 out of 10 calls was about that system. This year, I'm in a different department and I still get calls about the system. That date could also be when the retailers plan to have them in the Ad so a set amount will be set aside for that week's ad. Those things happen all the time. |
Re: PS3 + WII... who was waiting or will wait???
My fiance waited in line last night with some of our fellow employees to get a Wii. He got there at 10pm Saturday night. I couldn't wait in line because I had to work the Launch (every employee in the store, even if they weren't Media had to work the launch if they were scheduled this morning) The line had filled up at around midnight at my store and we had 84 units.
For games, My fiance and I got Zelda, Red Steel and Happy Feet. All are really fun. |

Re: PS3 + WII... who was waiting or will wait???
It was crazy over here in Rochester. People were doing anything they could to get there hands on the console. Since some stores didnt allow people to wait next to the store people hid in trash cans. It was crazy haha! Im just going to wait another year to buy it.
