|
Re: SNOW DAY
It's coming this way tomorrow with heavy rains and winds and a 30 degree temperature drop. Stay safe.

(Note that in South Carolina, the entire state shuts down the moment any snow or ice sticks to the ground. No school, no state government, no churches, no businesses, nothing. And yet people still manage to get out, drive, and wind up skidding into a ditch.) |
Re: SNOW DAY
*Looks outside*
Nope, no snow. It's 65F here. Wetzel |
Re: SNOW DAY
It's rainy here right now but I heard a storm is headed our way. *hopes for a snow day tomorrow*
|
Re: SNOW DAY
Snow days only count during the six weeks
|
Re: SNOW DAY
rain here, its suppose to snow tomorrow but I don't expect anything to stick to the ground. How big is this storm system?
|
Re: SNOW DAY
I doubt it'll hit NJ. I wish it would though (not that it'd do anything... supposed to have record highs today...grrr...)
|
Re: SNOW DAY
Our local ten day forcast is calling for snow showers here on December 8th but I'm not getting excited about it because that forcast changes every hour!

Re: SNOW DAY
it hasnt even really snowed here yet, its just sleet covering everything....its started raining early yesterday about 10:00 am and it turned into sleet last night and is still going....the snow is supposedly getting closer
|
Re: SNOW DAY
Show Low and Prescott got 1/2 foot of snow yesterday. The temperature actually dropped to 34 here in Phoenix. That's ridiculous for us.
I want a snow day here :) |
Re: SNOW DAY
65 today and expected to be in the 30s tomorrow. Snow should be here sometime this weekend, but I hope not enough to close things because FFL this weekend.
|
Re: SNOW DAY
We've gotten about 4" in the last 12 hours. No biggie.
4 down, 286 to go ... ;) |
Re: SNOW DAY
It is a typical sunny day. Atmospheric opacity is a low 0.2 tau, so things are bright and clear. Current daytime temperature is around 39.4 degree below zero, Fahrenheit. Winds are moderate (40-60mph), with occasional dust devils observed in the vicinity. Current relative humidity remains extremely low, with no appreciable precipitation forecast for at least the next 100,000 years.
Ooops. Sorry. Wrong planet. -dave |
Re: SNOW DAY
Some time last week it was actually sort of cold in Florida.
About 28ºF with wind chill. One of the counties near me actually had snow flurries. So yes, it does snow in Florida. No, we don't get snow days :( ...we get hurricane days. |

I live further south in Florida than Michelle does, so the coldest it got was in the lower 60's as a daytime high (lows were in the upper 40's). I thought it was pretty funny to see people bundling up in coats, sweaters, hats, and scarves when the temperature outside was a comfortable 60! I admit, it wasn't tank top weather, and my blood is starting to thin from being in the warmth for so long... but still, I was able to be comfortable in a long sleeved shirt. And I also find that I am still able to get into relatively cool water without much of a problem (haha Tytus)... many Floridians think that it's too cold to go swimming when the water temperature is below 80 degrees! It's too bad we didn't get more hurricane days this year (there is no hope for snow in Miami). All I got was two days of cancelled classes for Ernesto (which wasn't bad at all... we get way worse severe thunderstorms in Connecticut). :( |

I lived in New York for seven years, and I was there for one of the big blizzards in the mid 90's. I loved it. I guess I'm a snow person. I traveled to Washington DC in January of my 8th grade year, everyone was in coats and shivering, it was about 9ºF and I was walking around in a sweater. I wish it would snow here. You northerners should send us southerners some snow. ;) |
Re: SNOW DAY
I really wish we'd get some snow this year. Last year mother nature seemed to just love teasing us, snow kept getting forecasted, and on a number of occasions it did snow, but it never stuck! Maybe this year. Regardless I'll be wearing shorts and a t-shirt all year. (I'm not joking, the number of people in this country that aren't in my immediate family and have seen me wear pants more than three times can be counted on one hand, not including formal occasions.)

Re: SNOW DAY
1" maybe... meh.
and well, like it mattered anyway. everyone at my school/team knows: -Indiana has relatively mild weather -further more, the city of Carmel has invested in a protective bubble, keeping snow, and "bad" weather out... and its very rare for it to break :p -even when theres snow, we still don't get snow days because: +-Our superintendent is Alaskan +-She also drives a Hummer +-When she was in charge of snow day decisions, it didn't matter how much snow, or how fast it came, there were no snow days Last year, several of our school buses had accidents... and since they blamed the superintendent, she gave the rights of snow days (rightfully) to the transportation department |
Re: SNOW DAY
there are 10ft drifts of snow in some areas

I love New England, It's December 1st, and its 65 degrees here today. Perfect day for shorts and a teeshirt! Albeit raining, the warmth is welcomed with open arms.
|
Re: SNOW DAY
The earlier forecast here in Michigan expected 3-5 inches of snow today, with sleet and ice in the morning.
I woke up to a wet world though, no ice whatsoever, just raining a cold rain. IT SUCKED, and I am still in school for another 25 minutes... -Joe PS: then the dangerous stuff comes on my way to work... greeeaaaattttt. *sigh* |
Re: SNOW DAY
Snow has encased my car. I cannot get it out, therefor I am stuck at home. My mom had to drive me to work. Chicago is all snowy, the lakefront isn't to bad. Columbia has an unofficial snow day, all the suburban kids e-mailed their work to their teachers.
|
Re: SNOW DAY
In Newton Kansas we have to get 10 to 12 inches of snow to cancel anything. They only exception is that about 2-3 years ago it rained and then froze and then snowed. The ice was so heavy it pulled down powerlines, trees, everything.
|
Re: SNOW DAY
As a New England native now living in the western suburbs on Chicago, snow was a pleasant site. Though claims of "we never get snow days", and "don’t get excited" rung on Thursday, Friday morning I found myself sleeping in and pleased by the snow's good show, here's to many to come! .... Though some people may not like snow as much... I’m a huge fan of that icy white stuff from above! Declaimer, yes I know it snows in the Midwest, just not as much as the northeast I’ve heard.

Re: SNOW DAY
So here in Indiana, we were expecting the worst as we got all of the rain ahead of the snow (which was heading for us) and then we never got anything to stick. It did snow a lot during school today though and there is that little pathetic bit sticking right now.
|
Re: SNOW DAY
After a weekend in shirtsleeves (high about 65) we have between 10 and 12 inches of the white stuff. It just proves that in Chicago, if you don't like the weather just wait a few minutes. Today and tomorrow bright sun and temps in the single digits for a low, possible.

Side note: On Friday, the whole team built a snowman together. It was the first time many of them had seen snow, so the snowman team building experience was something they will always remember. They found a double A battery in the snow for a nose. :) |
Re: SNOW DAY
On Thursday, it was about 67 outside, which is ridiculously unseasonable for New England in almost-December. Tomorrow, it is going to be near-freezing with a 70% chance of snow showers.
Can't it just hold off for three more weeks until break? |

Re: SNOW DAY
Around here, it hardly ever snows before January. It's great when there's snow on my birthday, which is already a three-day weekend (Martin Luther King Jr day). One year I had a four-day weekend because of it! Talk about great birthday presents.

Re: SNOW DAY
Thanks guys (KathieK and Skimoose) - if we ever did something like that, I think our 'materials' packing list would have to include boots, parkas, warm gloves, and hot chocolate.
Jane edit/additionally: to the team building exercise list: sled saucer warm fire in a fire place to do list: snowball fight snow angels build a fort gosh that would be fun, really fun. |
Re: SNOW DAY
I wish we could get snow here... Here in sunny California! Average day temp is like 50-60.

if you get cold real easily or arent used to the cold then long underwear, i spent my snow days in shorts and a short sleeve tshirt, except when i was shoveling snow, i would have worn shorts except the snow was almost up to my knee

Some rain here would be really nice--within the next 100,000 seconds. :) |
Re: SNOW DAY
We got some flurries on Thursday night. It was during a lecture in robotics and someone said "Hey, it's snowing!"
Utter chaos occured for about 30 seconds, and order was returned by hitting pieces of metal together. Loud noises get people quiet. fast. Unfortunately, none of it stuck, and school was completely unaffected. Oh well, I gues i'll have to wait for January for a snow day. |
