# of Teams in each state
Does anyone know where I can get a list of how many teams in each state. I was wondering who had the most.

Re: # of Teams in each state
It would seem to me that California takes the cake, with 121 teams and an average of 1 team in every 1308 square miles.:ahh: Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: # of Teams in each state
As far as number of teams go, i think California does have the most, but Michigan comes close, with 118 teams (i counted really fast, so i could have messed up) but i think that comes out to a tighter team-area ratio.

Re: # of Teams in each state
Michigan has 109 teams, and 1 team in about every 899 square miles. Thanks for pointing that out!

Also interesting: team statistics

Re: # of Teams in each state
Based on NJ Facts http://www.skyweb.net/~mgbio/njfacts.htm
our little state has 49 teams this year (down from 53) making it 1 team per 165.5 sq. miles and 1 team per 161,304. 6 people Some counties have teams in every town. The city of Newark has about a half dozen alone. It is pretty likely that we are the most teams per area (but I would also check Ct. for that) WC  |

Re: # of Teams in each state
It is great to figure number of teams per square miles or number of people, but that really doesn't matter. The real measure is how many high schools, or better yet, high school students have access to a FIRST team.
In January, Dean Kamen visited Detroit and when he met the Governor he made it clear what is important to him. He said that at that time Michigan had the highest number of teams per schools...One out of every four high schools in Michigan had a FIRST team. I don't know where he found those numbers, but this would be a great statistic to know, and probably the more important one. Remember that many FIRST teams support multiple high schools. Example, our team represents the Huron Valley School District which has three high schools. |

Since Rhode Island is going to have a FVC Team in every high school from the 2007/08 season and onwards, they will be the first state to have FIRST in every high school. :) |

Re: # of Teams in each state
Hawaii has 5 teams this year. We are participating all the way to the New Jersey Regional 5,500 miles away! :ahh:

Re: # of Teams in each state
any one notice Nebraska finally has a team?
|
Re: # of Teams in each state
It depends on if you are talking about the FRC program only, or all the FIRST programs in a state.

Re: # of Teams in each state
I'm interested in seeing the percent growth in number of teams from year to year... does anyone know where to find this? Because one statistic that sticks in my mind is that Minnesota has gone from 2 teams last year to 17 this year, and I'm just wondering what the overall increase is from year to year

Re: # of Teams in each state
Someone linked earlier to the thread on teams-per-capita.
Using today's data, I've updated the list compiled for the earlier thread in which teams are sorted by TPMR (teams per million residents). I agree that teams per high school is probably a better measure; however, data on number of high schools is harder to get, and team affiliations with multiple schools change somewhat from year to year. US average is now 4.1 TPMR, and every US state now has at least one FRC team. :) There are 1315 FRC teams registered as of today, a 16% increase over last year's total 1133 teams that participated in FRC events. Actual figures for 2007 may differ slightly since fee payment deadlines are still pending. For overall growth in number of FRC teams refer to the 2006 FIRST Annual Report. Rank / TPMR / State / Teams / Pop(000) 1 / 20.3 / NH / 26 / 1,281 2 / 13.2 / DC / 7 / 529 3 / 11.4 / MI / 111 / 9,763 4 / 9.9 / CT / 33 / 3,317 5 / 9.9 / MT / 10 / 1,006 6 / 9.4 / MA / 59 / 6,310 7 / 8.1 / VA / 59 / 7,324 8 / 7.9 / MO / 45 / 5,718 9 / 7.2 / KS / 20 / 2,761 10 / 6.9 / CO / 31 / 4,468 11 / 6.3 / NV / 13 / 2,070 12 / 6.1 / ID / 9 / 1,480 13 / 6.0 / SC / 24 / 4,033 14 / 5.9 / ND / 4 / 677 15 / 5.8 / NJ / 49 / 8,392 16 / 5.7 / AL / 4 / 700 17 / 5.6 / NY / 103 / 18,250 18 / 5.4 / AZ / 28 / 5,230 19 / 4.7 / OR / 17 / 3,613 20 / 4.7 / ME / 6 / 1,285 21 / 4.4 / MD / 24 / 5,467 22 / 4.4 / WI / 24 / 5,479 23 / 4.2 / IN / 26 / 6,215 24 / 3.9 / GA / 33 / 8,413 25 / 3.7 / LA / 17 / 4,535 26 / 3.7 / HI / 5 / 1,342 27 / 3.5 / CA / 122 / 34,441 28 / 3.4 / MS / 10 / 2,908 29 / 3.4/ OK / 12 / 3,491 30 / 3.4 / MN / 17 / 5,005 31 / 3.3 / PA / 40 / 12,281 32 / 3.0 / RI / 3 / 1,012 33 / 2.9 / WA / 18 / 6,258 34 / 2.8 / OH / 32 / 11,428 35 / 2.8 / FL / 45 / 16,279 36 / 2.5 / DE / 2 / 800 37 / 2.5 / SD / 2 / 810 38 / 2.4 / IL / 29 / 12,266 39 / 2.2 / WV / 4 / 1,849 40 / 2.0 / WY / 1 / 509 41 / 1.7 / TX / 36 / 21,487 42 / 1.6 / VT / 1 / 638 43 / 1.5 / NM / 3 / 2,016 44 / 1.2 / UT / 3 / 2,411 45 / 1.0 / IA / 3 / 2,941 46 / 0.9 / NC / 7 / 8,227 47 / 0.7 / TN / 4 / 5,966 48 / 0.6 / AK / 3 / 4,631 49 / 0.6 / NE / 1 / 1,761 50 / 0.5 / PR / 2 / 3,912 51 / 0.4 / AR / 1 / 2,750 52 / 0.2 / KY / 1 / 4,098 In other countries: Ontario, Canada has 4.9 TPMR, 62 teams in a population of 12.6 million.
