2007 Buckeye Regional

I didn't see anyone start this one yet, so I guess I'll start it, with some news:

For the first time in Team 66's history (if my memory serves me right), we are coming to the Buckeye Regional.

Me, a bit excited: 2 times out of state for my senior year, YAY!!!

Anywho, just thought I would share the news, and start up a thread, sitting here with nothing to do in class at the moment.

Re: 2007 Buckeye Regional

I know 772 is very excited to be attending the Buckeye regional for the first time!!! We usually do Waterloo that weekend, so this will be quite the change in terms of the number of teams and in the sense that we have only seen a few of these teams at the regional level before.

I'm still not sure which regionals I'll personally be attending (ie. taking time off of work for), but I have family in Ohio so I might check it out! Though Waterloo would be a little easier to deal with (20 minute walk)...

When it's held at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? In the words of the immortal DS&TKB - Rock and Roll All Night, Robots Every Day. The first year at the Rock Hall was great. Ah, the good old days.

But the team list for Buckeye is starting to look REALLY good.....

1675 and 1714 are coming back from Milwaukee. The Ultimate Protection Squad is hoping to do a little better than seeding last this year, but as long as fun as had, it will be a blast. Does anyone know anything about the Social yet? My first year there in 2003 at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame was awesome, but the Science Museum wasn't too bad either.

See you in March!

yea we're excited to meet you too. Actually that was one of the pluses when we signed up for Buckeye. :D We all want to meet the team that signed up right before us giving us our number of 1676.

Also I can't wait to meet the teams from the ohio area. Since I've never been to nationals with the team most of the teams i know are from the new jersey or south carolina areas.

OK, so now we're under 3 weeks away. It'll be way cool to meet 1675 - I hope we're together inthe pits - and to meet Koko Ed in person.

Who else going to be there? Everyone, be sure to stop in to 1676 and say Hello!

As Huey Lewis & the News noted, "The heart of Rack N Roll is in Cleveland".

This announcement is of the "no duh" ilk, but Team 48 will once again be going to the Buckeye Regional, as we have since its inception in 2002.

I welcome this year's team list as one of the more competitive I've seen at the event.

393 will be there, for our first time. We had some major issues at VCU, but we're going to overhaul and be ready to Rack & Roll at Buckeye. Looking forward to seeing everyone, especially 1743 from Pittsburgh. We ran against y'all in the finals at Pitt last year, and I'm looking forward to seeing what you're bringing this year.

stats i just found:

65,66,70,451,494,503,548,1188,1213,1286,1528...all at GLR (11 teams)

65,66,70,94,494,503,548,1188,1213,1286,1528, 1684...all MI teams (12 teams)

27 teams from oh are attending Buckeye

12 teams from mi are attending Buckeye

27 of 32 teams from OH are attending Buckeye

55 of 108 teams from MI attended GLR

now i am trying to find stuff on chairmans awards but i cant seem to find anything about it. also regionsl wins and stuff. so if people can help me out i would appreciate it.

oh and from what i remember, GLR has 6 championship winners and Buckeye has 4 and they are all from Michigan.

(This post was posted with no disrespect for Ohio and/or their teams, they are just facts that i have gathered.)

Looking forward to the teams in Cleveland, this will be a large step up from Pitt last week. I am curious to see how the game plays out with a much bigger field, also looking forward to playing again with the teams that were in Pitt - as long as 48 has their ramps on, there is no eye protection required in the stands, if they pull them off - be ready to duck! :yikes:

You can all come visit 48's pit at the same time - it's always fun to try and get our "Captain Safety" to have a nervous breakdown. :D

If someone suggests a good place and time, I'll stop by. If I forget (I'm old), feel free to come drag me out of my pit.

We are returning to the Buckeye Event for the first time in a few years...
For you seasoned Buckeye vets, are the pre-order meals (lunch) worth the expense? Our team will have a bus, but do not want to travel far from the event center during the lunch break. Are the concessions priced the same as pre-order? Are there any local restaurants that are capable of handling the FIRST lunch rush?
Also, any reccomendations from locals for a good pizza dinner for us?
Thanks!

On the topic of the Mini web-hug, how about at the Team Social on Friday night at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? It kind of is the idea of a social anyway, and what better time to hang out.

That would work out for the majority of us, but team 306 will be at a mini team social with two or three other teams :D
We'll probably just end up seeking you guys out, search and destroy style at the actual venue.

When we came up in 2005 to visit me and the kids I came up with went out to lunch. There's a Burger King and a KFC nearby. Most likely there's some sort of pizzareia nearby. The neighborhood is not the greatest and if you wander too far you may lose track of where you are (you know how cities are some grided oddly with one way streets and such and next thing you know you are the other side of town). I reccomend using mapquest or Google Earth to search out nearby resteraunts.

That it would!
I know, I can not be the only the only person with people they know going but can not make the trip them selfs for one reason or another.
I do get strange looks when people see the matches playing in the background on my computer. Not much is said until I lose it and start yelling at the monitor.

If there is a webcast I would be most grateful if someone would post a link.

Also, for all the home viewers... which team you rooting for? :D

I can't believe this... one of the best regionals and nobody is doing a webcast!
I saw it on NASA's list too... just like them, full of promises, not so much at doing it.

Major bummer! :(

Its official no NASA webcast for the Buckeye ...
Just got the email from someone at NASA....
Maybe Buckeye fans should let them know how we feel getting our hopes up ,

Buckeye is going to be one of the best regionals on display this year!
Not only are there alot of award winning robots and teams on displaybut many of them are doing their second regional so they are battle tested and ready for action (instead of spending all practice day in the pits getting fixed or trying to pass inspection). THe Eliminations should be a particular treat!

I will be recording all the action this weekend and hand it over to Ellery to edit. He's a pretty busy guy with school and all so that he's taking what little time he has to edit all these videos for you guys ought to get a collective Attaboy form the whole lot of you!

Not only are there alot of award winning robots and teams on displaybut many of them are doing their second regional so they are battle tested and ready for action (instead of spending all practice day in the pits getting fixed or trying to pass inspection). I'm sad I won't be there for Buckeye because it is looking like its going to be an incredible year for it. So many good teams, and quite a few too. One short of 60.

Thank you sooo much for recording and thanks to Ellery who will be editing it all. I can't believe they negated the webcast. Makes me sad.

Is this going to be another GLR or better? Considering GLR was pretty thrilling on its own... nonetheless, I am anxious.

We've got a computer that we can digitize the feed if here at the Buckeye Event. Does anyone have a server that we could stream to with enough Bandwidth to host the viewing demand???

So, I figured out that Buckeye is not so far away from my place of residence. Therefore, I was thinking about going. Then, I looked at the team list and decided that there was no way I wasn't going. :)

I'll be there Saturday.

Yes someone please....!

And send emails to the nice people at NASA that decided to cancel on such short notice. (keeping fingers crossed NASA will rethink that one!)

If someone sees Ed down there make sure he changes the tapes in time. So nothing get cutoff. I also try to keep the clips long enough till the score shows up but at FLR there were a few very long Referee discussions that made a few of the clips extra long. I just started my next quarter so it may take some time to convert all this when Ed get's it to me.

Well I wish I was there, sounds like the practice rounds went real well for the X-CATS and looks like our autonomous is ready to run.

Most definately I'll be going back and forth all day (I hope the scouting team got the VCR hooked up. I don't know when exactly we're getting there).
I still have the FLR brodcast on my DVR at home so I can record the missing files and get them to you.

HAHA. Thanks for pointing 174 out for me. It wasn't needed though.

Its rather funny cause when I called them at lunch they said they were 3rd seeded. Now I think they lied or something in their bragging to me caused an effect.

Obviously the teams I knew would be on top are on top. Great job to them. It seems that the older teams are finally making their stand against the new teams.

Defense is uber-crazy! 48 is now reffered to as "The Aluminum Magnet" on CRT :D

Along with that, we have a few choice nick-names for some other teams:

"The arm destroyer."
"The Battery Ripper."
and last but not least, "White on Rice."

:D Over-all, we were plagued with minor problems all day... but we spent lots of time today and went over EVERYTHING, so now that we have a problem-fee robot, you should be seeing some pretty high scores from us.

I believe that most of the reason we always get defended by everybody is because we kept on putting up sevens on practive day. :p
Shoulda waited 'till qualifiers.

CRT is one of the more effective hybrids I've seen. Low scorer and a double (seesaw) ramp. The scorer is a la swampthing style (Similar design).

LOL that just might have to find its way onto the robot somewhere.

By the way, several robots were able to move the rack today. I swear we pushed the rack sideways about a foot during one match. This wasn't a dynamic contact hit - it was done when pushing a robot against the rack from a dead stop - did they grease the bottom of that thing or what? :ahh:

Nice change of pace to see the Top 8 loaded with veterans. Some of the rookies are still managing to make a positive impact, though.

So far, it's been a very entertaining and competitive event. My parents visited a FIRST regional for the first time, and they really enjoyed the gameplay.

Boo to the perpetually blah match scheduling algorithm - how about a major refresh for the Championship?

I 4 1 miss seeing matches with six capable robots, or even six not-so-good, robots, battling it out. :(

Oh well, there's still the elims. Maybe we'll see a good match-up or two near the end.

When the matches are finally uploaded to SOAP I HIGHLY recommend you guys watch match 58 immediately for an incredible show of teamwork to neutralize a terrific offensive bot. 48 and 772 drove over to 1126's side of the field and turned sideways and slid back and forth to deny them and 2252 access to the rack. It was brilliant defense that didn't require overly aggressive ramming or anything like that. It was a true work of art.
