Out of curiosity, why are you using double gears for the gearbox? Is that to reduce the chance of a gear breaking, increase efficiency, or is there a microscopic shifter in there I can't see?

Re: pic: Vex transmission (bottom view)
Redundancy is always a good thing, especially when the breaking strength of the gears are not advertised like in vex. At the Massachusetts regional over at QCC we broke 4 of the small tooth gears on our arm. But my question for you is where is the shaft collar for the motor's axel? Aren’t you afraid of it slipping out at a competition and loosing that side of your drive?

And I'm not actually in the competition, I was just playing around with some ideas for the game. :P |

http://www.vexlabs.com/vex-robotics-gear-kit.shtml Thanks for the answer. So with all these Vex gearboxes, when can we expect a contest to see who can build the strongest gearbox? I'll give it to whoever has their Vex robot lift them off the ground. |
