I went "spotlighting" through my computer, and look at what I found! I was talking to Dave when the game was released in 2006, and this is what he said...

I also discovered how bad my grammer was back then. :p

After extensive searching and thought provoking questions to all we have come to the conclusion that a wonderful substance instead of water will be used. The answer contains 5 letters and is blue...

JELL-O because its Alive like Johhny #5!

He did and it looks to me like there is a person in the bottom left hand corner, maybe that has something to do with it? or that could just be my eyes playing tricks on me

I believe that since this is a frame from a video, we won't find anything by manipulating the image in any way...

The number 5 is ‘V’ in roman numerals. ‘V’ rhymes with ’C’. The letter ‘C’ is pronounced the same as ‘sea’.

"That's Pool, with a capital P, and that rhymes with T, and that stands forTrouble" . . . right here in River City!

Rest easy, Meredith Willson.

First off, lets only look at what they give us, no assuming and no infering....
So, now som things to consider:

1. The "diamond plate" shape ins't a circle, it is a rounded object with flats
It Could possible be a circle, but we do not see the whole perimeter of the object.

2. It is a diamonplate PATTERN, it isn't an actual picture of diamondplate.

3. The colors, blue may or may not have any significance, it is part of FIRST's logo and it is part of EVERY game. The "diamond plate" is a flat finish....and actual diamond plate has some luster to it. The 5 is black. I don't have anything to go with it, but it is just black......

4. The meaning of the 5. FIRST has done many things in past years. Go back and look what it could connect to..... 5 points for a object, 5x multiplier, 5 ways to score, 5 players?, 5 possible main strategies, 5 places to score, 5 new things in the kit, 5 pounds more for your robot weight, 5 weeks to finish building your robot? It could mean anything, or it could mean nothing.

5. 5 players, think about it doesn't FIRST want everything to be fair? So if there was 5 players how would they make the game fair? Half way through have the player switch teams? maybe maybe not. But remember in '06 the person who won autonomous almost always won the match. So if the extra bot if on one side for autonomous the other team would have a lesser chance of doing good. unless of course the drastically change the game.

Aha! the image is in layers. here is what I got!

TUBES!! The game is going to be a seris of tubes!

My point: there is no way anyone is going to figure out this clue, all we got is a black 5, a diamond plate circle, and some crazy blue background. Its not much to go on. I dont mean stop trying, but some of these sugesstions are getting ridiculous. Water? there is no way it would be allowed on the field. there is too many room for things to go wrong with water near elecrical equipment.

For what it's worth, I'm throwing out a guess.
I like the King of the Hill idea, possibly played with five bots on a pentagon-shaped field manipulating truncated icosahedrons (Bucky ball - It has 32 faces, of which 20 are regular hexagons and 12 are regular pentagons). There are five steps leaging up to a round platform (the "hill")

Probably going overkill on the "5", but food for thought.....

Just throwing it out there, a few years ago we used soccer balls. And soccer balls are made of 5 sided and 6 sides geometric shapes. A ball is a nice game piece.

im just going to throw this out there, but in the lower left corner, where some people saw a person, it kinda looks like there is a santa hat too

ok- an old guys 2 cents-

the diamond plate circle represents a circular goal or platform that can only fit 5 of the robots on the field and not 6. That leaves one man out and one team the round winner and one the loser.

the red, blue and yellow green are the three colors of the diodes used- red and blue are teams and grteen is the neutral color diode. Perhaps there is a "score on demand of the light" facet this year

of course the letter 5 and diamond might refer to the Hope Diamond and its 5 notorious owners- all of which succumbed to the curse of the stone. That means we have no Hope.....

of course all this could be bovine fecal matter...

Merry Christmas

WC

EDIT: Here we go. There's no doubt about it. That's a banana.

your post was the funniest thing i've ever seen

i think...

that since 5 is one number less than 6, and 6 is half of 12, but 12 divided by 3 is 4, there will be 4 teams. I have also come to the conclusion that since there are 4 teams, and a blue background, and blue is close to violet, which is close to a more redish color, which is close to red, there will be two teams, one red, and one blue. The diamond plate obviously implies real diamonds, which means our game piece will be real diamonds... I think i'm on to something...

no, not really, but thats what some of the posts are starting to sound like :)

The great TomNack has spoken.

you only say that because of your amazingly awesomely crazly box you built last year...

5 = objectives or points per objective...

Diamond plate... more of it than last year...

Circle = balls, platforms, holes in the driver stations

Expires is when the cache of the image on your computer is removed.

Now, the image is a JPEG, using JFIF standard 1.01 (which is not uncommon). From what I see, there is no embedded thumbnail. Nothing pops out when I view it in a hex. There is nothing human readable in the non-binary parts of the file. (besides the JFIF header)

In the picture itself, from what I can tell, the background is indeed mostly blue and gray (no surprise there). The plate is mostly red, green, and yellow. The '5' is made up of dark grays. (ranging from close to #0A0A0A to #0D0D0D). And unless there is some fancy steganography stuff, I don't think there is anything -literally- hidden in the image.

But I bet someone out there will think that the red, yellow, green, and blue represent 'targets' of some sort which a camera will have to detect and do something accordingly. Perhaps there is a 5th color too. But I doubt it. =p It'd have to be a purple... it's the only distinct enough color left that a camera would be able to pick up (from what I believe, someone disagree?)

EDIT: whoops, messed up my hex codes for the colors, fixed.
