Re: 2007 Official FRC Game Hint / Email Blast
Hmmm...What if this is Dave's ultimate red herring?
Here's what I'm thinking: *the 5 could be referring back to last years "five bots" (3 offence 2 defense) *5 robots on an alliance would make for a really crowded field *I like the idea of a rouge bot or a "house" bot but I'm not sure that will happen *I think the 5 refers to the point values *I'd like to see a circular platform & ramps Time will tell I guess.... |
Re: 2007 Official FRC Game Hint / Email Blast
5 sided spinny thing in the middle of the field....I hope....I like things that spin....or a 5 sided scoring object....

Re: 2007 Official FRC Game Hint / Email Blast
to everyone that thinks water...
yes cool, but think about that. realy. they would need to make a giant tank, that would be in an arena, suitable for probly 6 FRC robots. we arent talking Vex here, but big robots. also, electricity + water = BUZZZZZ im sure just insurance liability would prevent the whole idea and any schools go a place for a practice field? "yeah we'll just put our pool in the gym. i think its water tight".. sorry. but in my opinion FIRST would never be able to host such an event. but non the less im hoping the guys give us some kinda fast paced game |

sorry to post so repetitivly, but whta if the "round and around" part means that there is a central goal in the middle that robots must navigate around due to it's size (similar to the center goal in the 05' game).

Re: 2007 Official FRC Game Hint / Email Blast
I'm never sure whether I'm reading too much into a clue, or not enough...
My scattered thoughts so far: -It would be quite hilarious if this were all the first in a series of countdown pictures like some people have mentioned. After all, the GDC has to top Greg for his prank on us recently. -I wish sanddrag's clue was the actual clue, because I had far more ideas for it than for this. -5 of something...I'm personally leaning towards a 5-sided platform or 5 "bases"' of sorts. Maybe the last bit of the match is autonomous and you have to find your way to the bases autonomously, from wherever you are on the field. Each robot could be assigned a certain color before the match, and they have to go to the base that displays their color. -NO WATER! Please...*twitch* |

Well, if we have determined the it is from the countdown video, might we consider the song: "The Final Countdown" by Europe.

Re: 2007 Official FRC Game Hint / Email Blast
Dear Mr. Lavery,
Congratulations. For the fourth year running (at least, in my case - I am sure that others have a few more years to add on to my tally), you have successfully ruined my Christmas holiday with your untimely release of a most obfuscating, but no less tantalizing, hint. As I have not yet been able to find a banana in the image (which I am sure is lurking somewhere) nor have I had the time to count the individual treads on the diamond plate in the hopes of revealing some magical number, I shall field no further comments other than to say that I eagerly await a true 3v2 game. Sincerely, Elise |

Re: 2007 Official FRC Game Hint / Email Blast
What if there was a tall, rotating cylinder, bolted down in the middle of the field that was seperated into five different segments that could either raise/ lower the score of the team puting in the scoring objects. ex. one segment could raise by 1 point, the next 2, the next one take off 1 point ect ect that would make some interesting stratigies for not just scoring but for controling the rotation of the goal.
The dimand plate could represtent the material used to seperate the goal, or a ramp/ platform of somekind. Or we could all just conceede that were never going to guess this and enjoy our holiday for once without racking our brains. But knowing us that's probably not going to happen:D |

Re: 2007 Official FRC Game Hint / Email Blast
So i saw that someone else had said that IFI isn't selling the kit bot transmissions any more so I looked around their website and I found that they are releasing a next generation of traction wheels soon. My thought is that like last year we are going to have to climb something but this year I think it will either have less space for the robots to get on or is going to be steeper.

That'd be just evil. |
Re: 2007 Official FRC Game Hint / Email Blast
Dont forget the "hint" from last year, Red then Green the BLue. The 5th round the color could be blue? there is going to be more colors. they may corrolate to numbers, when you can score, how much a point is worth, etc. I doubt field dimension will change, committees arent going to redesign there layouts for the regionals, i doubt robot weight would change to 500, However new cims motors are out and that means power settings, and electronics will be changing a bit. Theres a chance for robot dimensions to change, so. FIRST is based around team work, so i doubt a rogue robot. and i doubt water. too expensive to bring into an arena and water and electricty dont work to well. so no people. Thats my 2 cents i cant really shoot anything else down. Diamond Plate+ Colors+ other then that. idk.

Re: Serious the Real hint
I looked over the image very carefully there is defiantly a banana in the lower right hand corner, furthermore I would like to add that there are several distorted images in the background but most importantly in the background appears to be bubbles as if under water… I'm part of a new team but I've never heard of water FIRST competition. I would investigate further but my computer doesn’t have any good programs with which to examine my hypothesis further… If someone would be kind enough to examine the left side for me I would be much obliged as I think I saw a robot there.
|
Re: 2007 Official FRC Game Hint / Email Blast
ok here we are.
our guess is that the blue background represents the blue square in the symbol of first and the 5 represents 5 of something. 5 diamond plate aluminum squares is our guess for the objects. also perhaps we are changing to a circular field. this was the case in fvc so perhaps it will be the same in frc |

Re: 2007 Official FRC Game Hint / Email Blast
Darn my internet crashing, I had to read 23 pages before i could post.
My take on the clue has to deal with music, -After 5 years in band and learning the circle of 5ths I have determined that with the circle of 5ths the fifth sharp in order is E which is the 5th letter in the alphabet. With music seeming so significant I feel a musical chairs kind of game coming on but insted of music the lights determine when to go and when not to go, like a stoplight which was found in both the official and non offical clue. As for diamond plate I see something like goals which can be scored in, 5 of them of cource. I couldalso see them being numbered with 4 goals, numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4, surrounding the most valuable 5th goal, which can be moved so that the team with control of the goal at the end would recieve a bonus. |

Re: Serious the Real hint
So the only clues I see that work perfectly together are the new pictures of a banana being hidden in the picture, the 5, and this one.
Quote:
IF sanddrag saw an actual clue, and the banana is really what we think it is in that picture.... then my offical guess is that we will have to stack or unstack a game piece (I am guessing intertubes) from up high, that is in groups of 5. As for the word wash, it could mean many things like To cause to undergo a swirling action, To flow over, against, or past, or An activity, action, or enterprise that yields neither marked gain nor marked loss. Either of these definitions could make for some interesting game play. Now if it is not the definition of the word it would be the action. As I said, you wash bananas before you go to market, the market could be a high up goal. |

If you do remember from the first picture (i know it came early) there was a blue line, the infamous bananna thats on the same side as to robot, and fish... Now to the current clue where there is yet again the bananna and also the #5 and the #5 as stated as a basball player possbly (Johnny Bench) a CATCHER. Now lets think Fishing... Catcher of the fish aka: the robot, and the bananna being a slippery surface... Now if we have robots on both sides then its a catch game. Now ofcourse the camera will be back this year so possible periods that you can score during and others play defence? who knows but hey it could be fun Sean / Adam |

My guess is that there is something to do with 5 disc shaped objects, possibly a throwing contest of the discs, or maybe the robot is supposed to be shaped in a cylindrical shape. OH I think that I may have a good idea of what it is. We will have to stack or roll 5 pieces of metal or some other material, to a certain place, such as a goal fo each disc or possibly each disc is worth so many points. Well that is all I can think of for now, so good luck to the rest of you. |

Re: 2007 Official FRC Game Hint / Email Blast
First off, lets only look at what they give us, no assuming and no infering....
So, now som things to consider: 1. The "diamond plate" shape ins't a circle, it is a rounded object with flats It Could possible be a circle, but we do not see the whole perimeter of the object. 2. It is a diamonplate PATTERN, it isn't an actual picture of diamondplate. 3. The colors, blue may or may not have any significance, it is part of FIRST's logo and it is part of EVERY game. The "diamond plate" is a flat finish....and actual diamond plate has some luster to it. The 5 is black. I don't have anything to go with it, but it is just black...... 4. The meaning of the 5. FIRST has done many things in past years. Go back and look what it could connect to..... 5 points for a object, 5x multiplier, 5 ways to score, 5 players?, 5 possible main strategies, 5 places to score, 5 new things in the kit, 5 pounds more for your robot weight, 5 weeks to finish building your robot? It could mean anything, or it could mean nothing. 5. 5 players, think about it doesn't FIRST want everything to be fair? So if there was 5 players how would they make the game fair? Half way through have the player switch teams? maybe maybe not. But remember in '06 the person who won autonomous almost always won the match. So if the extra bot if on one side for autonomous the other team would have a lesser chance of doing good. unless of course the drastically change the game. |
Re: 2007 Official FRC Game Hint / Email Blast
Aha! the image is in layers. here is what I got!
![]() TUBES!! The game is going to be a seris of tubes! My point: there is no way anyone is going to figure out this clue, all we got is a black 5, a diamond plate circle, and some crazy blue background. Its not much to go on. I dont mean stop trying, but some of these sugesstions are getting ridiculous. Water? there is no way it would be allowed on the field. there is too many room for things to go wrong with water near elecrical equipment. |
Re: 2007 Official FRC Game Hint / Email Blast
For what it's worth, I'm throwing out a guess.
I like the King of the Hill idea, possibly played with five bots on a pentagon-shaped field manipulating truncated icosahedrons (Bucky ball - It has 32 faces, of which 20 are regular hexagons and 12 are regular pentagons). There are five steps leaging up to a round platform (the "hill") Probably going overkill on the "5", but food for thought..... |
Re: 2007 Official FRC Game Hint / Email Blast
Just throwing it out there, a few years ago we used soccer balls. And soccer balls are made of 5 sided and 6 sides geometric shapes. A ball is a nice game piece.
|
Re: 2007 Official FRC Game Hint / Email Blast
im just going to throw this out there, but in the lower left corner, where some people saw a person, it kinda looks like there is a santa hat too
|
Re: 2007 Official FRC Game Hint / Email Blast
ok- an old guys 2 cents-
the diamond plate circle represents a circular goal or platform that can only fit 5 of the robots on the field and not 6. That leaves one man out and one team the round winner and one the loser. the red, blue and yellow green are the three colors of the diodes used- red and blue are teams and grteen is the neutral color diode. Perhaps there is a "score on demand of the light" facet this year of course the letter 5 and diamond might refer to the Hope Diamond and its 5 notorious owners- all of which succumbed to the curse of the stone. That means we have no Hope..... of course all this could be bovine fecal matter... Merry Christmas WC   |
Re: 2007 Official FRC Game Hint / Email Blast
Quote:
i think... that since 5 is one number less than 6, and 6 is half of 12, but 12 divided by 3 is 4, there will be 4 teams. I have also come to the conclusion that since there are 4 teams, and a blue background, and blue is close to violet, which is close to a more redish color, which is close to red, there will be two teams, one red, and one blue. The diamond plate obviously implies real diamonds, which means our game piece will be real diamonds... I think i'm on to something... no, not really, but thats what some of the posts are starting to sound like :) |

Now, the image is a JPEG, using JFIF standard 1.01 (which is not uncommon). From what I see, there is no embedded thumbnail. Nothing pops out when I view it in a hex. There is nothing human readable in the non-binary parts of the file. (besides the JFIF header) In the picture itself, from what I can tell, the background is indeed mostly blue and gray (no surprise there). The plate is mostly red, green, and yellow. The '5' is made up of dark grays. (ranging from close to #0A0A0A to #0D0D0D). And unless there is some fancy steganography stuff, I don't think there is anything -literally- hidden in the image. But I bet someone out there will think that the red, yellow, green, and blue represent 'targets' of some sort which a camera will have to detect and do something accordingly. Perhaps there is a 5th color too. But I doubt it. =p It'd have to be a purple... it's the only distinct enough color left that a camera would be able to pick up (from what I believe, someone disagree?) EDIT: whoops, messed up my hex codes for the colors, fixed. |

I believe I figured out part of the clue.
I saw part of this mentioned in another topic (that I can no longer find)
![]() This is the ishihara test for red-green color blind. Other than to let us know which color-blindness test it is, I believe the 5 is just there to throw us off. Ok, so this may let us figure out that we are dealing either with red/green lights or red/green alliances. I'm assuming red and green lights. To me, the circle looks like diamond plate, and the blue looks like some type of rough water. So this means a....diamond in the rough??? OK, I don't know that one; I'm still figuring it out. I'm fairly certain that's what the 5 and circle means however. |

Re: 2007 Official FRC Game Hint / Email Blast
after reading throuh more than 25 pages of speculation, i beleive i have an accurate summary of whats going on:
first off, i think we cna conclude it is not a water challenge. keep in mind that this is still a competitive game and people get pissed when something happens that mkaes them loose. if there is to be water, then there will be a great deal of inconsistancy to deal with. i dont think i even need to explain why i think the 'rogue' robot would be cool but completely NOT GONNA HAPPEN so here is what is on my sticky note ive been keeping while reading: -card game theme - (5 of diamonds...) -step to climb - (the shadow of the circle looks like a step out of a pool) -platform - (like the step, there is prolly a diamond platofrom somewhere) -bad crop - puzzle? - (possibly future clues will fit onto this one like a puzzle) -5 diff height platofroms + steps? - (speaks for itself, kind of) -50? - (the and the circle makes 50. 50 something i dont know) -SCREENSHOT - (most likely a cropped screenshot from the animation, -possibly cropped to hide something on the top or bottom of that circle, like it being mounted, and the blue stuff is fuzz to hide the game animation, a human player is barely visible on the right side) -olympics - (five rings in the olympics? possibly an olympic game theme) -pool, as in billiards - (that could be a cool game theme, circle looks like pool ball number 5) -22" in diameter if riges are scaled - (if to scale, the plate would be about this size based on the riges) -baseball! - (possibly bases activating for points or something? baseball theme quite probabal) -goals on 4 corners like bb - (more baseball theme, goals on corners + center = 5) -5 periods - (game play periods, autonomous + 4 more) -inner tubes - (maybe stacked on poles) -blue=square - (in the first logo, plus we are overdue for a square challenge - sq, circ, tri, circ, NOW) thats what i have sumarized, i hope this either enlightens some, or helps others to not have to read quite so thoroughly b4 posting PS my personal thoughts: im thinking baseball; with diamond plated weight activated sensors on different sides as bases, points are scored at the end of each period for each of your bases that does NOT have a bot on it. ramps etc to climb over in the middle. |

back to the baseball theme some of you mentioned. Baseball is played on a diamond, home plate has 5 sides, the five is sitting on a circle. In baseball in you have to touch all 3 bases to score or round the bases. So what if the task is you have to do three things (three colour lights, you have to complete on task before going to the next) and touch home plate to score points

My $0.02 with the whole 5 thing, for one i don't think it has anything to do with the number of robots on the field of play. With the amount of teams entered growing every year it will be almost impossible to shrink the # of teams on the field. However as mentioned many times before i think 5 will refer to the number of scoring areas or scoring objects on the field.
