Re: HELPPPPPP!!!

I personally like www.dreamhost.com, as it's cheap, fast, and has lots of tools for you--(server side plugins, etc).

GoDaddy is just as good, but I think a little bit more expensive. Check out both, they're equally good. My team uses Godaddy.

Re: HELPPPPPP!!!

Our team website (http://www.mercury1089.com) is hosted through http://www.1and1.com
We haven't had any problems as far as I know, and they are very reliable.
A lot of teams also use http://www.dreamhost.com, that's the site that NEMO is hosted from, and also the ConnVex website.

Also, check out this thread: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...ht=web+hosting
There are FIRST-related teams and groups that will offer FREE web hosting.

This thread is also pretty great, it lists a lot of sites that other teams use, as well as some prices: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...light=web+host
Hope this helps!

Re: HELPPPPPP!!!

i personally like dot5hosting.com

search around a bit and theres a coupon code for 50% off their already cheap price. it gives you an insane amount of everything for $4 a month, $2 dollars with the code. you get a free domain with it too. i use it and am very pleased. it has only been down once, and that was because i crashed it with some bad php mysql coding :-)

Theres a thread about sevaa. Its free hosting but he requires you to buy your domain name from him so thats $15 a year.

Domains normally go for $9 a year.

$6 a year for (I believe) uncapped, quality, hosting is the best deal you're ever gonna get.

No, Im saying to get the free hosting from Sevaa they require you to buy or transfer your domain name with them. And they charge $15 a year for the domain name.

He meant that with the 6 dollars more per year than the average, you're getting good hosting on top of a domain.

We have are web site http://www.graytleviathons.org through godaddy.com, they are really low priced for .com, .org and other address names. Some other reasons why I like then is because they have fast up loading speeds on to there servers, great customer support, high bandwidth usage per month, go check then out at godaddy.com. Hope that helps.

try duportonline. i use them for my personal site, and they have excellent, low priced plans. they also have AWESOME customer service that responds in less than 20 minutes (every single one of the 15 times I have contacted them).

I think they already have hosting >.>

I was doing a bit of research and 1and1.com is the cheapest. It is around 18$ per 6 months for a domain and some simple hosting. Go daddy with the coupon turned out to be $88 something. I suggest 1and1.

Pavan.

Re: HELP! Website hosting problems.

the only thing with 1&1 is that the only comments on their service that I've seen have been bad ones. That's why I chose duportonline, which has prices that are very close.

and yes, my grammar may make no sense. yes I can speak english. i am just tired :ahh:

What is better? Microsoft hosting or Linux Hosting?

It depends on what you're hosting, if you're running .NET applications you'll want a Windows host*... for just about anything else you'd want a Linux host.

*Yes, I realize there are things like the Mono Project to run .NET applications on various platforms but they're always going to be 5 steps behind a Windows host.

Re: HELP! Website hosting problems.

There are other advantages to Windows hosting, but some of them will cost you slightly more. For example, I am a big fan of remote desktop, which is provided by a lot of providers for a small fee on Windows-based hosting plans.

In general, though, if you want basic hosting for almost anything you want to do, Linux is cheap, easy, and probably your best bet.

Although I am sure you have plenty of options by now, some of my friends have been satisfied by www.oneandone.com

Re: HELP! Website hosting problems.

Oh yeah, so people have mentioned 1 and 1.

I'm just saying from personal experience, that's a good way to go if you're starting out.

1 and 1 is cheap, but if you ever need service or any communication with them, good luck. Their phone support is one of the foreign tech centers, and I havent been very happy with their email service either.

Exactly. That's why I love Duport Online. Their support is excellent. They reply extremely quickly and will actually work with you to solve problems.

Re: HELP! Website hosting problems.

I would Suggest Brinkster. They host our website (http://www.team1676.com/) and do a great job and have a few different options based on your needs. They also provide Windows Server or Red Hat Linux server based on your choice. Note: If you wish to run ASP .NET use Windows; if you plan to use PHP or anything else I suggest that you use Linux. It is a known and better web-server!

Re: HELP! Website hosting problems.

I use 1and1 for our team site. I've seen the bad reviews and I've experienced problems but hey their cheap. Just to buy a domain is just $6/yo. Buying a shared server costs about $70/yo. That's why I stick with them. They're was this one time I was so pissed with them. My site was down for hours at a time. It would go up for a day and then would go back down. I called costumer support and it took almost an hour to talk to somebody and when I did they just gave me an ETA. For a couple of months now my site has been running smoothly and I'm starting to gradually like them again.

Re: HELP! Website hosting problems.

I have a site hosted with Exabytes, too. I don't recommend them for the same reason. They don't have phone support at all, a fact which I was willling to accept at the time until I realized that their e-mail support was in Malaysia. I had to reply to one problem five times to get an answer that actually fit the question.
