25's Completed Field Setup

After many hours of toil, broken limbs, pain, and just plain 'ol exhaustion, Team 25 has completed its field setup in record time. We believe this will give us a 'ballin' advantage. Pictures included.

We're re-uploading the images to imageshack now. They should work when we get them up again. :)

Great job you guys! I am so proud of your work!!

now all you got to do is build your robot!:D

I like the creativeness.

Very nice!

I was fooled by the thread title; you got me. When I saw it, I went, "What the..?"--our team is still getting supplies to build the field with; we haven't even started building yet.

Funny, we actually talked about making a K'Nex field today...now for the K'Nex robots! (I wonder why there isn't a microcontroller sold by makers of K'Nex; they could easily wipe LEGO out if they did it right)

I believe at one time they did have a robotics type thing, and although it wasn't all that great, it still was something. One thing I liked about the classic k'nex was that there was only so many pieces, and unlike legos, they didn't come out with special pieces for each new kit (not so in the later kits....)

If you look closely at the pictures, you'll notice that the orange rods are the ones from the roller coaster kit (the ones with the little things that make sure the track is always the same width).

Sorry to tell you- this field is not FIRST legal.

I've checked and K'NEX is not a preferred FIRST vendor.

Oh... just kidding. Nice Job!
I can imagine some cute animation with this field.
:)

yeah i totally thought you guys had already built the real field.
I wouldn't have believed anyone else but 25.

when I read the thread title, didn't surprise me. I was just like "pfft. figures. they've had almost 8 hours."

Had me fooled. I said "man, they must have a connection to the game committee (Big Mike) or something..." Thanks for the laugh.

Two questions to the fine folks on 25...is this to scale? And what did you use to suspend the spider legs? Looks like string, but I'm not sure.

The field is not to exact scale. We first built the rack, and then estimated and sized the rest of the field accordingly. String was used to suspend the spider legs, with some rainbow string serving as the center "chain". The rack is also built so that it can move within the scaled radius of 3 feet.

Note the driver and human player-they are to scale! :D

Haha, we did the same except with legos. We even had some people having timed practice games to develop strategy and such.

I think this is most practical with VEX. I think that VEX is great for the purpose of scaleing and prototyping before time, effort, and money is gone into making a robot.

Pavan.

You guys need to stop taking this so seriously. We were trying to figure out how the rack actually moved and got a bit carried away. It was just something fun that we did while strategizing and such; it was meant as a joke.

We're supposedly playing around with different manipulator designs at our meeting tonight using donuts and straws.
