Team 11 will sorely miss our friends down south this year. We sacrificed Palmetto in favor of New York this year, for money reasons I believe.
|
Re: Palmetto Regional
Team 1293, D5 Robotics, will be attending for their 4th year. We'll hope see everyone there!
|
Re: Palmetto Regional
Team 1249 The RoboRats and 337 Starbot from almost heaven, West Virginia will be making the trip south again. Would not miss it.
|
Re: Palmetto Regional
I'll have to check with the other coaches, but I think Team 95 is planning on going to Palmetto again this year. We also go to Manchester. We've gone twice, and two alliance Silvers. Palmetto has good vibes.

Team 1251 [TechTigers] will be there, ready for action! Can't wait to see what this year brings!
:] |
Re: Palmetto Regional
Can't Wait. Team 1319 will most likely Be there.
Team 507 won't be there. ((I should know. They arent doing FRC anymore. They've moved to doing FVL. I changed schools and am now on 1319 :P)) Good luck,l and can't wait to see y'all there! :D |
Re: Palmetto Regional
Metal In Motion - Team 343 will be there. We look forward to seeing a lot of old friends and making new ones. It will be exciting to have the new teams with the Palmetto group this year. To those of you who are not going to be able to make it this year, we will "pencil you in" to attend two times next year. You will be sorely missed.
Good luck to all teams this year. May you have an outstanding season. |
Re: Palmetto Regional
This is the first year 1390 will be in Palmetto. As soon as I get out of class on thursday at 11:15 I am making my way north. The drive is about 6 hours (depending on how I drive...ahem.) I've always heard from other Florida teams that its a fun competition, and I look forward to attending.
|
Re: Palmetto Regional
342 is certainly going to be there! It's our home regional and 30min away.

Re: Palmetto Regional
well y'all, team 1539 can't wait to be there either. anyone goin to peachtree also?
|
Re: Palmetto Regional
Sadly S.P.A.M will not be able to go this year. UTC has cut our funding in half for 2007, and has cut it completely in future years. We had to make the tough choice of attending 1 regional and Nat's in 2007, so we'd have the $$ for at least one regional next year. The loss of UTC represents 1/2 our yearly budget which supports FRC, FVC and Lego League teams. We are down but not out!
We will miss this competition dearly. It is one of my favorites...all night bus ride not-with-standing :p Have a great time and a great regional! Eric |
Re: Palmetto Regional
Team 1746 is showing up for our first visit to Palmetto.
and zakk, we're going to be at Peachtree as well. |
Re: Palmetto Regional
Team 346 will be there for the first time (in a while?)
|
Re: Palmetto Regional
I hope everyone at Palmetto has fun this year! Palmetto has treated team 11 well and I'm sad to hear they won't be going back there this year. Columbia is gorgeous so I hope everyone takes advantage of the great area and regional!
Good luck 1251...I'll be rooting for you! |
Re: Palmetto Regional
dude, im soooo siked that palmetto is coming up. i hope that the competition will be awesome agian this year like it has in years past. we havent had as much success here as other places, but we hope to change that. we've worked out the bugs and are ready. im sry to see that teams like 180 and 11 wont be there this year. and 180, i hope that yall can get ur budget worked out. yall are one of my favorite teams year in and out to watch. we cant wait to c all of u there!

Re: Palmetto Regional
Team 832 will be coming to Palmetto; this will be our first time there. We got in late so we might not be on the list yet, but we will be there just the same. And 1102 definitley has a ramp. We climbed it at Peachtree!

Re: Palmetto Regional

http://www.engr.sc.edu/palmettofirst/team_social.html The State Museum is not too terribly far from the Colonial Center, but far enough to justify moving your car. Speaking of cars and such, keep in mind that the parking at the Colonial Center is also a very popular commuter lot for USC students, one that is not generally closed down for Palmetto. (Well, it hasn't been closed the past three years.) I've heard talk of special parking for buses, but I can't confirm that. But if you're coming in cars, come early. By 8:00 AM on a regular class day, things are already a little cozy down there. If you move the car for lunch, expect to take some time to find a new spot! Also, I'll note that there are food options out there--if you know where you're going. The Russell House University Union has a plethora of quick-service food at tolerable prices (Burger King, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, Chick-Fil-A, Einstein Bros. Bagels, etc.), and is only about a half-mile from the Colonial Center. You can get there one of two ways: take the Express shuttle (RHUU is only a little bit further along Greene--you can see it from the corner) or walk it. There's a pedestrian underpass below Assembly Street between the Carolina Coliseum and the Law School that will spare you most of the uphill hike, plus the fun of playing human Frogger on Assembly Street. I wouldn't recommend going that path alone at three in the morning, but it's fine during the day. Alternatively, if the match algorithm gods have smiled upon you and you have more time, I wholeheartedly recommend Gibbes Court at the bottom of Capstone House. This one will all but require a bus--for this one, take the Red shuttle to Capstone at Barnwell--this is a long trip, but it also gives you a nice view of campus. Just be sure to get back on the road before 1:00, as the route goes from two buses to one at that point. Or, if you're looking for off-campus grub, many students find themselves drawn to Beezer's at 919-B Sumter Street--it's literally across the street from where the Red shuttle stops at on the Horseshoe. They do subs like nobody's business, and eating there on five bucks is entirely possible. Grab a sub, spread out on the Horseshoe for a bit, and hop the Express back down to the Coliseum stop (or walk back, if you want to work off the sandwich). |
Re: Palmetto Regional
From the looks of it NASA won't web cast the event this year, or at least palmetto is not on their list. Is there any other source of web cast or this year there won't be any?

So, its that time, Palmetto is closing in, only a few days left untill 1251 departs on their 12 hour van voyage!

The main contacts of teams attending Palmetto received the following from Don Griffith of the University of South Carolina:
2. USC Instructional Services has confirmed with NASA the web cast of the FRC Palmetto Regional.$@# USC Instructional Services facilitates the connection as NASA is the streaming provider. :) |

i believe it is about a 4 hour trip for my team we are leaving right after school Wednesday :D |
Re: Palmetto Regional
Team 538 and 34 are leaving for Palmetto early in the morning WED. for our 6.5 hours drive. I cant wait!!
|
Re: Palmetto Regional
The trips not that bad for us, ~3-3/4 hrs according to Google. We leave Wednesday night and will probably be arriving in Columbia around tenish, and ready for a competition where we finally don't have any work we HAVE to do to on Thursday to make the robot competition ready, we don't even have to lose weight! (We still plan on adding a few things though, like an autonomous selector pot and two more air tanks) That leaves all that time for writing 15 user selectable autonomous modes. (Up from the one monster autonomous mode that we had at VCU, which we never activated to to sensor & feedback problems)
|
Re: Palmetto Regional
someone can tell me for sure, but there are a total of 6 ramp bots, and 3 are doubles right? and if nobody counts us as a ramp, we are planning on having one ramp.
|
Re: Palmetto Regional
we have a 4inch platform if needed, also, 337 has a double ramp.
|
Re: Palmetto Regional
cool, i did not no that.
hey, is any one wlse staying at the embassy suits? |
Re: Palmetto Regional
We're (587) at Embassy Suites
|
Re: Palmetto Regional
Quote:
By the way, for anyone coming from Embassy Suites (or anywhere else that involves I-126), do yourself a favor and ignore Google Maps once you get on I-126. Google Maps will take you to Elmwood Ave., then Assembly Street, then Greene St--this involves a further distance on a street that isn't world-renowned for its stoplight-friendliness. Here's what you do from I-126: When I-126 ends, you're presented with two options: Elmwood Ave. and Huger St. (Spare yourself the embarrassment for when you talk to locals about it--it's pronounced U-G, not hugger or huge-er or anything else.) Take Huger St. This will take you down a ways, past the *The Carolina Coliseum was the home of the Gamecocks until 2002, when the Colonial Center opened as the Carolina Center. The Coliseum still stands, hosting smaller events, some classroom space, and the city's minor-league hockey team. The Coliseum is all of about two blocks away from the Colonial Center, and shares parking with it and the Koger Center for the Arts across the street, but the parking area and shuttle stop are still dubbed the Coliseum by seniority (and a bit of proximity, since it completely bounds the lots on one side, where the Koger Center and Colonial Center are on corners of the lots). |
Re: Palmetto Regional
Team 1626 will be there. Good luck to all 45 teams. And we have an insanely long ride there I heard something like 12+ hours.
|
Re: Palmetto Regional

Re: Palmetto Regional
The TechTigers [team 1251] are in Columbia [after an 11-hour drive] and ready for the regional to start tomorrow! Are any other teams staying in the Comfort Suites [Downtown Columbia Vista District] Hotel?

So I found out today that 1875 (Autonomato Autonomatons) and 1368 are official--for some reason, they were jumping on and off of the rosters I saw until today. (And since I've seen both crates on the floor in the Colonial Center, I imagine that they're quite official now.) By the way, the pit layout appeared to be a little jumbled. Things seemed to loosely follow how they went in Chesapeake, with rows of similarly-numbered teams mixed up en masse, but don't quote me on that. Also, you'll have to take some time out to look around the concourse--this afternoon, I saw Donn Griffith setting up FLL challenge sets for every single year that South Carolina's been involved--that's every field going back to Volcanic Panic (and two from Nano Quest)! There'll also be FVC demos, and quite a bit more that I'm just not thinking about right now. This, in a word, is going to be awesome. |

So, guys, with...maybe 8 hours before things get underway tomorrow, I figured I'd say a few things.
It's going to be awesome. :D I hope to see each and every one of you there, and don't be afraid to come up to me and say 'hello.' I do look just like I do in my WAI, just more...awake.:p Good luck to all of the teams competing. And for all of the long commuters...you are very tolerant. ;) 1293 is within driving distance ( < 30 minutes maybe ) of the Colonial Center. But we are immensely glad to have you in our hometown! See you folks dark and early. :) -Taylor Tsuboi, Programmer, FRC Team 1293 (D5 Robotics) P.S. Forgot to mention... THIS....IS....ATLAS! |
Re: Palmetto Regional
Webcast was giving me a tough time here in Georgia coming in at about 180 Kbps. Now I am getting 331 and video is much better. Look forward to seeing our friends from Peachtree.
|
Re: Palmetto Regional
I just watched 1626 score 3 in the last 30 seconds for a quick victory. You have to watch out for this team. The are great to work with and a lethal, quick scorer.

Re: Palmetto Regional
hi there, ive just gotten access to the webcasts and I was wondering if any1 had the the time sheet for what teams are gonna be playing at what time
|
Re: Palmetto Regional
Just watched match 29 with my favs 1251 :-D. Awesome ramp action kids...way to score 76 pts! Wish I was down there right now :-(.
|
Re: Palmetto Regional
ha, the announcer just called 1369 perpetual motion, which is our teams name, 1368
|
Re: Palmetto Regional
I just heard the Head Ref overruled a ramping bonus for the last match, because the ramp started to rise after the time expired...I was under the idea that the score is finished when the robots stop moving/the refs are out there to measure...can someone please clarify this one for me.
This may very well determine the 1st seed...and I would hate to see a Ref make such a mistake. |

Wow, the announcer just had the crowd stand up and say hello to the webcast prior to match 53. Unfortunately the camera person didn't get the word and we saw none of them.
Lets go 1746 & 832. |
Re: Palmetto Regional
A YELLOW CARD!
First I've heard of this year, for overly aggressive play. Scratch that...the refs changed their minds again....sigh |

Re: Palmetto Regional
Rick, No I am not. I guess I am not positive how to do it. The web cast Kbps varies from 180's - 310's so not ideal. I assume the video's will be up on Soap but I am not sure. Watched several of your matches yesterday. Stay out of that opponents home zone at the end of match though. :) Dave
|
Re: Palmetto Regional
Thanks Dave and also to Santosh and other CircuitRunners who have been IM-ing us all weekend. We love the support that we're getting from all of the Georgia (and other Peachtree) teams.
Two more matches today and then nail biting time for the alliance selection. Mannie |
Re: Palmetto Regional
A double flip-flop now, oye. Went from a 10 point penalty on blue, to a 10 point on red, to a tie.
|
Re: Palmetto Regional
In all seriousness now...if anyone is watching, I hate to moan about it...but the Head Ref didn't give one team any penalty, after they deployed their ramp in the first 5 seconds of the match (by accident) and then proceeded to use their ramp as a wedge to keep a team away from the rack. This changed the outcome of the match, because he gave two bogus penalties to the other alliance.
EDIT: They just changed the outcome of another match after posting the scores...swinging the match again. |
Re: Palmetto Regional
Corey, they gave us (1626) two 10 pt penalties for being in the opposing alliance's home zone during the end game but we were on the other side of the field.

1369 is really doing well scoring in autonomous, i remember at Peachtree they started scoring autonomous in quarterfinals, and made it everytime, and that really helped them win...
