Wetzel

It seems to work fine to me!

It seems fast enough for me while using it at work.

I use my wifi connection at home on the iPhone and EDGE seems maybe about half as fast as my DSL wifi.

I do know that the edge connection is much happier and faster when you have full service.:D

I own one. It is fantastic. Best tech purchase I've ever made.
It seems for the most part, the people posting negatively aren't apple fans or neutral for that matter. This product is great.

Won't happen. Apple signed a contract and the iPhone is an ATT exclusive. But that doesn't mean anything for the future as the razor was a Cingular exclusive when it first came out, now it is everywhere.

Re: iPhone

It's interesting to read how Apple released it so secretively. They refused to say how many they had/will have in stock so everyone lined up and stocked up with many in hopes to sell them thinking there weren't going to be many available to be purchased.

Unfortunately for those who bought more than one to sell on Ebay, there are many to be sold.

What is a bigger scam? The iPhone or PS3!?

John,

The PS3 is actually cheap compared to some things that it competes again. Try to match thr P3S up to any good Blueray player.

A good BlueRay player alone hovers around the $800 range. A PS3 with an HDMI cable is $700 (with 60GB Harddrive)

The best system before the PS3 is the Xbox 360... ($399... only 20GB harddrive) Then there is the WII, which personally i think is the best because the graphics aren't as huge to me as actual interaction.

but anyways so you are taking the best system before the PS3..

Xbox = $400
PS3 = $700
Blueray = $800

So the PS3 is just as good as any Blueray player... and is better than the Xbox... but yet it is cheaper than the Blueray player alone!!!:ahh: :ahh:

So my answer to that is that the PS3 isn't over priced at all...

The PS3 is actually quite a deal, considering that it costs over $800 in parts to produce each one, resulting in Sony losing money for every one sold.

Art,

To purchase these parts seperately it costs over $800. But Sony makes some of the parts and oursources the rest, but believe me if they were losing money on the PS3 they would not be selling them. The art of business is to make a good profit

Yes and no. Where Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo makes their money in the console business is licensing fees for games (and, I imagine peripherals too) that run on their systems. I am unaware of Sony ever releasing how much they lose/make on on each PS3 sold, but an IGN article estimated their per unit loss at around $240. How accurate that number is, I don't know, but they certainly aren't making much money on PS3 sales, if any at all.

That only works IF you want a Blu-Ray player. In my opinion, HD-DVD is going to beat out Blu-Ray in the end, and that's optional with the Xbox360, which I think was the correct way to go there. Not many people even want a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD player at the moment, there aren't a lot of movies out yet in those formats (less than 300 movies in both formats).

Halo 3 is coming out here soon and that's going to seal the deal on the PS3 my friends. No one I know owns one, they all either have a Wii or an Xbox360. No one wants to pay 700 dollars for a console.

Blue-Ray have signed some of the largest film production companies already. (something VHS did when it started to come out).. Believe me when i tell you its only a matter of time before Blue-Ray owns the market, just like VHS at one time owned the market...

And as for the loss that sony has taken, it is $1.88 billion in the last year... However the sales for the PS3 already are higher than the sales for the PS2 at the same time of each of the systems life... and the PS2 made Sony the largest money yet, even after a lose of around $1 billion for start up..

That was due to low supplies of the system, not lack of consumer interest, as is the case with the PS3. I go to stores and see PS3s in stock, and no Wiis, and a few 360s (depending on when I go and where.) I see games leaving the PS3 and going either multi-platform, or ditching the platform all together. It'll take quite a bit on Sony's part to get back in the race...

The WII isn't in stock because Nintendo only releases about 100k to the states about every 1 and a half weeks, while the PS3 is constantly kept in stock. When my store goes under 6 we typically get around 8 more in stock within a few days... we sell at least 1 PS3 a day... given the interest is low in the PS3, but the again the game base for it are light as well.. which sony knew when they released it. Give it 6-9 months and there will be a game that propels the PS3 (similiar to what GTA did for the PS2)

So? What I'm trying to figure out is how 300k of systems is bad while 130k of systems is good? And how the PS3 is just waiting to take off with a lack of any great signature exclusive game? GTA's on the 360, Killzone is only a PR piece to combat Halo, and I see Wii sales in excess of 80k each week in Japan, while the PS3 is selling around 11k each week. Is there a piece here I'm missing that says the PS3 is just "OMFG so going to totally take off!" or what?

Re: iPhone

Ok, I have been a little absent on this convo. But Like said previously the PS3 is only a good buy as a Blue ray player if you want a blue ray player. Why would you need a blue ray player unless you have a sick nasty TV first? And a sick nasty sound system, and a sick nasty uber comfortable couch. I am certainly not gonna watch a blueray DVD on a little 23" CRT.

Look at income statistics and see what system is more financially affordable also. 700$ is 3+ car payments for me. That is alot of more. Now Tim I know your a business major and I'm a silly little engineer, so give me your best shot on that one.

Is have a 360 or wii better? if you buy an xbox with the extra 300$ you can go get HDMI cable (Don't Know if they are included), more wiresless controllers, Batteries packs, headfones, and games. Or go get a sick nasty sound system. Mine cost me 280$ and sounds better then anything my friends have.

-John

ps - What is the hookup diff between blue ray and hd-dvd?
