How about things like customer service, reception in your area, interoperability with your important apps, future upgrade path and a dozen other things that I consider far more important then how much I could hock it for. My cellphone serves me till super glue and electrical tape can no longer hold it together. If one of your prime concerns is how much you can sell the thing for when a newer, shiny Apple product comes out, you've really bought into 'iLife'. Besides, no one has any idea what people will be willing to pay for a two year old iphone, so it doesn't really make the Iphone a good deal now. Hey, its a nice phone. But it does have some pretty bizarre shortcomings, and I don't think it's worth it. When it can use a 3g network, replace its battery, copy and paste and not crash like a pinto, I'll think more of it. Not being married to ATT would be nice to. I doubt I'll ever want or need one, but at least it might seem worth all the chedah. -Andy A. |
Re: iPhone
The first update was released yesterday for the iphone.
I charge my iPhone battery every night. ( I use it a lot) The EDGE is decent when you have full service otherwise it is not too great. I'm pretty sure the EDGE speed also depends on where you are at and how many people are using it. I am a machinist and I use my iPhone with slippery, slimy, greasy, dirty and wet hands. Just wipe it clean thats all! The screen wipes clean easily. When I bought my iPhone I compared plans and phones to Verizon. iPhone plan: $60 a month 2yr contract 200 txt messages unlimited m2m 5000 night + weekends 450 anytime unlimited data Similar Verizon PDA/Smartphone plan: $80 a month 1 year or 2 year contract ( I am pretty sure that they will CHARGE you lots more for the phone you want if you do a 1 year contract) 0 txt messages .15 cents each unlimited m2m unlimited night + weekends 450 anytime data access for email The activation fees are the same. iPhone plan for 2 years = $1,440 + phone Verizon plan for 2 years = $1,920 + phone The difference $480 or nearly enough to buy the 4GB iPhone. So even if your XXX phone for XXX wireless provider is free I figure the iPhone is cheaper. Now if you keep your iPhone for THREE years do the math. I realize I am only comparing the iPhone plan to one other provider's plan, but you can compare others if you wish. I also realize that the plans are slightly different but 200 x .15 cents per txt is $30. Verizon has unlimited nights and weekends, but I don't spend 83 1/3 hours on the phone during nights and weekends so that doesn't matter to me. I have to chuckle when everyone complains about the cost of the iPhone because I know everyone else that has a phone similar in functionality is paying for their phone every month verses paying for the phone upfront. That's all. Maybe you know of a better wireless plan than I do. |
Re: iPhone
I do not put my faith in something that does not have a fail safe plan.
Point 1 of Why I hate the iPhone - There is no keypad (yeah we are in a technological era but hey if that TouchScreen breaks / or the LCD Cracks guess what you now have a $400 piece of garbage you no longer can control) Point 2 of Why I hate the iPhone - It uses edge instead of the newer network. Point 3 of Why I hate the iPhone - No phone is worth sending out for battery replacement if you can't do it yourself. Why should I lose the phone for a couple of business days when they should've designed it so that the end user can replace the battery when neccessary. I'll put it to you this way when an AT&T Representative talks you out of buying the phone then obviously there has to be a good reason. All of the above in which he pointed out to me and I whole heartedly agree. Heck if the phone breaks you can't even bring it to the AT&T store, you have to bring it to an iPod store for ANY service. You know what I'm quite happy with my Motorola Razor v3xx I can change the battery if I need to and bring it to the appropriate store for repair hassel free let alone having a working keypad to use instead of an imagineary one. Sorry to knock your "favorite" phone but it's over priced and under developed. Good Luck with it. |

plus for those of you saying that the iPhone doesn't have a keyboard, it does, and it works very well (the keys are bigger). And the screen is glass (very strong glass), and cannot be scratched. A few strength tests were made on the iphone; one where this guy put an iphone in a bag of keys and bolts, and shook it like crazy, and only the back was scratched. the screen had no scratches whatsoever. and what if the palm treo's screen cracks. then you can't use it. Please–when you point out a fault or disadvantage in the iPhone, please look at other smartphones and think. Quote:
does anyone agree with me on that one? |

Does it have the functionality that the iPhone has? This guy puts his iPhone in the toilet, drops it and then steps on it....:ahh: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kopBQhKt0Ds So what applications or programs have you found for the iPhone? I want to try ifuntastic but I don't have a mac. I've tried seeqpod.com and http:/iphone.beejive.com I have not really researched what people are creating for the phone. Has anyone found anything really interesting? |

Re: iPhone
Surprised no one already posted this.
http://www.apple.com/hotnews/openiphoneletter/ "Therefore, we have decided to offer every iPhone customer who purchased an iPhone from either Apple or AT&T, and who is not receiving a rebate or any other consideration, a $100 store credit towards the purchase of any product at an Apple Retail Store or the Apple Online Store. Details are still being worked out and will be posted on Apple's website next week. Stay tuned." Looks like I am getting $100 back! :p I am surprised a company would actually give you money back after hundreds of people complained of the 33% price drop after the phone was on the market for two months. Next question is what should I spend the money on in the Apple store? |
