Edit: AH! now I understand! the for some reason the last time I was in here all it said was "POLL TIME!!!" but didnt show the poll. So I was quite confused. |
Re: In the last 30 secs of game ...
Where is the "2 or 3 of the above" option?
|
Re: In the last 30 secs of game ...
It will change every match based on alliance partners and the current score.
|
Re: In the last 30 secs of game ...
you left off guarding in front of the other teams home row to keep them from getting behind the line to elevate themselves. But I agree with James, strategy changes dependent on your alliance and your opponents.

Personally, I would like to have seen a bonus for number of robots in the home zone, with an increase for elevation. |
Re: In the last 30 secs of game ...
I think that placing a spoiler will be a big thing for most of the teams near the end of the match. But then again it all depends on the situation of the match. I think....
If a team is wining and they are confident: They will go for the bonus points and lift their alliance members up If a team is lagging behind and every second counts: They will try to take control of the spoilers and place them somewhere optimal for their alliance. thats my 2cents, everyone has their own plan. --Dan |
Re: In the last 30 secs of game ...
I think lifting two robots 12" when there isn't a row of 4 or more on the board is a great stategy and spoiling patterns of four or more is the only way to avoid losing by a great amount.

Re: In the last 30 secs of game ...
Well i guess if an alliance is going for the lifts...they will probly need more than 30 secs. because im guessing it will take some time and power to lift 2 robots.( plus its not like the robots will by some sort of "magic" be lifted up, in the last few secs of the game)

In my opinion, the last seconds of the game are the most critical. There are many ways to have massive point swings, and decisions will have to be made on the spot. Field awareness is key this year more than ever in my opinion. |

C'mon people keep voting you know you want to! (^_^)v

Re: In the last 30 secs of game ...
We will most likely be going to the end. Our bot is going to be a high scoring, offensive bot. Highly manuverable and able to score on all spider legs...however I wouldn't trust our manipulator to lift another robot.
Depending on alliance partners, we will be continuing to score, or place/remove spoilers till the last buzzer. However once again this all depends on our alliance, rack scoring position, number of keepers scored in autonomous mode, and current spoilers on the rack. If one of our alliance partners can lift us, then we will probably be going for the bonus points. I think the consensus at the competition will be that spoilers won't be implemented onto the field until the ~ the last minute of the game. Putting your spoilers out on the field early in the game is very risky and would waste time. If both teams put the spoilers out early in the game, then that gives an alliance the oppurtunity to negate up to 4 ringers. No one alliance would want to take that chance, so the spoilers would need to be implemented near the end of the game, possibly while the opposing alliance is busy in their home zone trying to get bonus points, and won't be able to remove the spoilers. Ideally, to place as many keepers as possible will be the autonomous strategy. A keeper should be in the "middle" of the rack scoring combo, so at worst a spoiler could not completely negate a 3x1 or 1x3 row into singletons. This years game is all based on in-game situations. Strategies can only be formed to an extent. The strategist must be able to alter strategies in a matter of seconds, which goes hand in hand with keeping tabs of the rack. Rack n' Roll is a lot like playing offensive football. You choose a play, set up, but before the snap the QB must look at the way the defense is set up. Based on the defensive setup, the QB would need to be able to call a quick audible and then hope it executes better than the intended play. |
Re: In the last 30 secs of game ...
our team is not quite positive yet.
but the best option i think is to hold the spoilers till the last second or two than place them. lifting robots off the ground is an option but not everyone will agree to having their robot lifted probably. it also depends on your aliances this year unlike the last year. you didnt really have to change your stradgey based on wat your aliance can or can't do. it is luck this year really. |
Re: In the last 30 secs of game ...
An interesting response to > 7.3 Rules Robot Lifting outside of Homezone in the Q&A. It indicates that a disabled robot can be used to score lifting points. Do they mean disabled by the ref's????

Re: In the last 30 secs of game ...
Do u think you could pick up a robot from the other alliance and hold them up in the air? then possibly be holding 3 robots in the air at the end?
|
Re: In the last 30 secs of game ...
Being able to move is always a good goal.

Re: In the last 30 secs of game ...
We are going for the 12 inch lift and 30 Sec is more than enough time with a ramp set-up all the ramp videos I have seen avg 4-8 sec deployment times and the drive on is avg 4-5 sec on our Bot from the time they hit the ramp.

Re: In the last 30 secs of game ...
Depends 100% on the match situation, teams involved (and their capabilities), and the current score. That is the most critical time to maximize score, so yes 60 points is good, but is a row of 256 points going to be left up if your opponent owns it? Conversly, if you had that row of 8 is 60 more points worth risking a loss of 128 points? That kind of situation is somewhat analagous to '03. Leave the high stack for the ramp or stay and gaurd?
Coaches be ready. $.02 |
Re: In the last 30 secs of game ...
Coaches are definatly going be on there toes this time around, so much is a matter of so many other variables you could spend this entire 6 weeks we have just planning stragies for every possible option, a lot of pre game stragay might get thrown out the window during game time. Not saying don't get some stragay or anything, thats not what I mean at all, but I'm pretty sure stragay will cahnge on the fly

Re: In the last 30 secs of game ...
Two things I find interesting about this poll:
1. Add up the percentages - it makes 150%. This means lots of teams are thinking ahead with robots and strategies that can adapt to different situations. B. Overall, there are a lot of choices. Different teams with different strengths will provide great alliances, as long as the weaknesses of one team are offset by the strengths of another. With 60% of the robots able to lift a teammate (based off this poll), we feel confident in our non-lifting robot. We may be a quicker and more accurate scorer than a lifting team; our inability to levitate will be counterbalanced by a lifting alliance partner. Success in this game really depends on how many "chiefs" and "indians" are on each alliance. |
Re: In the last 30 secs of game ...
Lifting 2 for the 60 points.
