The online reviews I've read of the Westin universally agree that the elevators take too long. Either the scheduling/balancing is poorly tuned, or there just aren't enough of them to handle a moderate rush of people all trying to get to or from the lobby in such a tall building.

With the number of teams staying there this year, maybe we can figure out some way to make it work better. Perhaps we could use some discipline and try to group people by floor rather than just packing as many in each elevator as possible.

340 will be staying at the Hampton Inn Suites Downtown, just blocks from the Dome. If anyone has stayed there I would love some info.

We have stayed at the Marriot Marquis (nice hotel, not so great customer service, we had students on 6 different floors anywhere from the 2nd floor to the 26th).
We have stayed at the Hyatt Regency, twice. Very nice hotel cool elevators very nice customer service. We managed to get all 30 rooms last year on 2 floors & you can see just about every room from the elevators. Excellent for watching students. Jessie Jackson stayed on our floor last year.

This sounds like a good thought. Maybe we can ask the Westin if we can put up FIRST signs to assign elevators to specific floors (for FIRST folk only, obviously). For example:

[__1__] [__2__] [__3__]
Elevator 1: Floors 1-5
Elevator 2: Floors 6-10
Elevator 3: 11-15 and so on.

It doesn't matter in the early afternoon, but at the busy times (dinner time, early morning) & it would be a sort of ... honesty policy.

The sign could be something like:

"FIRST LOGO
Attn FIRST Teams:
During peak travel times, please use elevators according to the posted schedule.

SCHEDULE BLAH
Thank you for your consideration in easing elevator use this year!"

I've been instructed to post that if any teams that are registering late need help booking hotels to contact me via PM. My mom has offered to handle a couple of teams' hotels and maybe get some more into ESG (Embassy Suites Galleria). Also, if any teamless people need hotel rooms contact me... we have a few rooms in our block that are at discounted prices ($109/night I believe) as well as transportation with 648 to and from the event.

Team 987 is staying at the Marriott Downtown...which by the way is not a cheap hotel by any means. It is a beautiful hotel but yes, it does not have breakfast included. It is only a 7 minute walk to the Dome and close to the CNN Center too.

Team 768 is staying at the Days Inn on Spring Street, which is about 3 blocks from the Dome. We hear there's a local bakery nearby that does breakfast - anyone know about it? In the past, we've stayed at the Marriott Fairfield, which became the Wyndham - it was not fancy but good enough, and having breakfast there was a nice plus. We spent one night at the Marquis last year and it was a very nice place.

i stayed there last year .. nice place. Go to the Diner there for breakfast .. much faster than anywhere else

Okay, I got the official lowdown for team 1712, we will indeed be at the Embassy Suites! Also if anyone wants to do a shirt swap type thing PM me so we can arrange it. (I'm an XL)

I would love to meet everyone down in ATL, so just come find me in our pit, or I'll maybe come see you.
