The past couple years we have stayed at the Marriot and we havnt had any problems with it. I hope we get it again, but we have to talk to our lead to see where shes going to get. Theres always prom going on there every year so its always fun to see them aswell

we always stay at super 8 :mad: but hey, its close... last year i spent like half my time at the hilton anyway. This year, i say everyone should stay at the ritz, very high class and all that.

good times at the hilton last year!!! the only problem was the long walk to the georgia dome. hopefully if we make to nationals again this year we stay somewhere closer

Oh how I wish we were staying at the Omni again :(

But apparently it's booked up already--some huge convention is there that weekend. I believe the Westin (or whatever the huge cylindrical hotel is) is where 25 will be at.

We'll be at the Mariott Marquee; one of our mentors is an employee of Mariott and tells us it's one of the better ones, so I think it will be good.

116 will be at the Westin as well this year (oh god, 25 and Tom in our hotel...this will be...umm.... interesting). We wanted to stay at the Embassy Suites like we did in 2005, but it got booked too fast :(

I heard a rumor the Omni is housing some other FIRST people and that they moved the kids out of there, but hey, what do I know.

I think my parents are trying to get into the Omni, if not, some place near where the Ritz was last year. I forget what it's called.

Very nice, good rooms and public spaces. The only real problem we had was with the elevators. If you're near the midpoint, you might consider using the elevator to the upper floors and then walk down a couple flights of stairs.

Oh, and the path to the pool is confusing.

Team 1124 stayed at the Westin Peachtree Plaza last year, and overall it was amazing; nice rooms, nice lobby, and a pool... we had lots of fun there. My one complaint would be the elevators; they were having a lot of elevator problems and it could take half an hour to get an elevator to stop on your floor coming from either direction.

The Westin is a great place to stay, except, like everyone else said, the elevators. 108 is staying there again!

Team 1523 and 179 are staying at the Indio again. It's a very nice small hotel if you can tolerate the beggars bumming for money after 7 PM.

no...the omni is being used for a medical conference or something and is booked during the championship

Looks like The Westin will be the hot spot for teams this year now that The Omni is out of the picture. I suppose we'll all get to know each other a little better waiting for those elevators...:rolleyes:

The Marriot Marquis is AMAZINGLY Nice. I highly recommend it.
However, the CircuitRunners will be staying at the Hyatt.
If anyone wants to hang out, PM me. Us seniors on the CircuitRunners are looking to try and have a great time as our last year as students at Championships.

QC Elite, 648, will be at the Embassy Suites Galleria, where we stayed in 2004. It's a nice hotel and not a bad drive to and from the Georgia Dome (only 10 miles compared to 18 in Chicago).

Team 537 will also be staying at the westin...we were staying at some other place....but got transferred into the westin last minute. We were all so happy. So this will be confusing then 537 and 573 in the same hotel...sounds like fun, ik a couple of us are bringing our xbox's down w/ us and planning to game it up...we'd love it if 573 would join us, this way we wont have to hide it cuz we can tell our mentors were bonding with other teams :)

Like a lot of others, I too really liked the Omni.
I think it was really convenient to have all the food places downstairs and the venue not too far away.

too bad not a lot of teams seem to be staying at the same place we are so far ;/

All three Xerox Teams (191, 1126, 1450) will be staying at one of the Mariotts downtown - (The so called cheap one with no breakfast provided :( ) Here's a new one I just heard - they are having flight issues getting our teams back so they chartered a private plane to fly all 107 people back. Talk about big bucks - you already know how much regular flights cost I don't even want to ask what's this going to cost us. Unfortunately I won't be there this year or next to see how it's going to go.

The NEW Apple Corps is trying some new digs this year. For the past three we've stayed at the Wyndham (which changed to a Marriot) and this year we are staying at the Westin. Looks like a pretty plush place! Do they have walls large and light enought for an LCD projector and some X-Box??

I don't know why everyone liked the Omni so much... it had small rooms, and there wasn't anything special about it, other than the fact that a lot of teams stayed there.

We're staying at the Embassy Suites, which has rooms at least twice as big, with an excellent free breakfast in the morning. And it's pretty much the same distance from the dome as the Omni.

Last year, team 87 went to nationals and stayed at the Westin. I just want all you guys to know that it's the most amazing hotel ever. If you get a chance, go up to the very top and look out the windows, it's breathtaking. And any teams lucky enough to get a room on an upper level (my room was on the 60th floor) should invite everyone else up there to get a look, because it's that crazy. Well, all teams going, say hello to the syringe in the sky for me. (take a look it really does look like one)

we only have funds for 12 people to go but we are also having several others pay for their own travel, etc. (that includes me) i dont know where the free members are staying but the ones that are funding ourselves will most likely be staying at Best Western.

Yup, we're at the Marriott Marquis. Our first choice was the Embassy Suites, but it filled up on us. We considered going back to the Westin, but after two years of dealing with elevators we decided it wasn't worth it.

The Regency Hyatt Atlanta is my all time favorite Atlanta hotel. It was a futuristic design back when I first went there to ride the pod elevators in the early 1970's. It first opened in 1967 and is 22 stories tall, at that time the tallest building in Atlanta. Unfortunately it is now dwarfed by the surrounding buildings including the 70 story Westin Hotel, formerly the tallest hotel in the world.

The CircuitRunners #1002 are staying there and hopefully our friends in Georgia Robotics Alliance (GRA) SOUP #1848 will be there.

The Hyatt is about a 10 minute walk to the First venues. Also, when you are outside of your room don't lean over too far.....open 21 story lobby. ;) At the top is a blue domed revolving restaurant. Hyatt Regency Atlanta, designed by Atlanta architect John Portman, was the first contemporary atrium hotel in the world.

The online reviews I've read of the Westin universally agree that the elevators take too long. Either the scheduling/balancing is poorly tuned, or there just aren't enough of them to handle a moderate rush of people all trying to get to or from the lobby in such a tall building.

With the number of teams staying there this year, maybe we can figure out some way to make it work better. Perhaps we could use some discipline and try to group people by floor rather than just packing as many in each elevator as possible.

340 will be staying at the Hampton Inn Suites Downtown, just blocks from the Dome. If anyone has stayed there I would love some info.

We have stayed at the Marriot Marquis (nice hotel, not so great customer service, we had students on 6 different floors anywhere from the 2nd floor to the 26th).
We have stayed at the Hyatt Regency, twice. Very nice hotel cool elevators very nice customer service. We managed to get all 30 rooms last year on 2 floors & you can see just about every room from the elevators. Excellent for watching students. Jessie Jackson stayed on our floor last year.

This sounds like a good thought. Maybe we can ask the Westin if we can put up FIRST signs to assign elevators to specific floors (for FIRST folk only, obviously). For example:

[__1__] [__2__] [__3__]
Elevator 1: Floors 1-5
Elevator 2: Floors 6-10
Elevator 3: 11-15 and so on.

It doesn't matter in the early afternoon, but at the busy times (dinner time, early morning) & it would be a sort of ... honesty policy.

The sign could be something like:

"FIRST LOGO
Attn FIRST Teams:
During peak travel times, please use elevators according to the posted schedule.

SCHEDULE BLAH
Thank you for your consideration in easing elevator use this year!"

I've been instructed to post that if any teams that are registering late need help booking hotels to contact me via PM. My mom has offered to handle a couple of teams' hotels and maybe get some more into ESG (Embassy Suites Galleria). Also, if any teamless people need hotel rooms contact me... we have a few rooms in our block that are at discounted prices ($109/night I believe) as well as transportation with 648 to and from the event.

Team 987 is staying at the Marriott Downtown...which by the way is not a cheap hotel by any means. It is a beautiful hotel but yes, it does not have breakfast included. It is only a 7 minute walk to the Dome and close to the CNN Center too.

Team 768 is staying at the Days Inn on Spring Street, which is about 3 blocks from the Dome. We hear there's a local bakery nearby that does breakfast - anyone know about it? In the past, we've stayed at the Marriott Fairfield, which became the Wyndham - it was not fancy but good enough, and having breakfast there was a nice plus. We spent one night at the Marquis last year and it was a very nice place.

Team 716 will be staying at the best western at the peachtree. unlike our usual embassy suites, we didn't book soon enough. I'm assuming that its the same hotel as what everyone else is calling the westin. assuming correct we could have one huge party one night, like multiple floor party, :rolleyes: seeing how many teams will be their.

OK, So I spent the last 2 hours putting everyone into Google Earth. Simple double click the attachment and it will add it to google earth. Your best bet is to turn off ALL layers (lodging, roads, etc..) So that only my FIRST.kmz is showing. You can now zoom in an click on any of the hotels to see the teams staying there.

OK, now this is our chance to fix stuff. If you see your team listed at a hotel that you are not geographically staying at, please let me know. There were a bunch of each type of hotel, but I assumed that most were downtown. Please check your team and the hotel. Simply look at the chart below. Find your team and the corresponding letter. Open the Google Earth Document and find that letter. If that is where you are staying, great! If not, please inform me other wise.

The only other glitch I found was the Towne Suites? (Can not be found.. Can I get an address/website for this hotel?) The other thing was the Indio hotel. I assume that this is the Indigo hotel. Please inform me otherwise.

Wow! This just in (2 days ago), 648 will be bringing a larger contingency to Atlanta than we did to Chicago. Three more alumni/mentors have signed up. Look for 648 to be loud and energetic. Our 648-107 bi-team party will be fun, too. Assuming 107 students show up this time?
