Re: Treads Or Wheels

we are using the kop wheels with a six wheel drive system. I think these wheels are a lot better than the ones from previous years. We will see if that works, if not, we have the old stand by with rear wheels and casters

ah we are using a six wheel system two but we are using omni wheels
by kop wheels do you mean omni wheels?

Re: Treads Or Wheels

Wheels are much better than tracks(only with a good steering mechanism or omni-wheels). Plus, tracks are SLOW at turning, which is DEFINITLY NOT wanted in the middle of a match.

Mecanum wheels for this game since maneuverability is very important.

KOP means Kit Of Parts aka the AndyMark FIRST Wheel.

Who ever said half-track wouldn't be the way to go?

I kinda liked the stubby little track modules on 45's 2003 machine (the Awk?); does anyone have a picture?

Re: Treads Or Wheels

Yeah, a half-track might be a good idea, especially if the front wheels are omni-wheels.

Wheels. We're sticking to a similar design we've used the past few years which has worked out well for us. This will allow us to concentrate on other areas of the robot.

"The Mighty Auk" was actually a full tank tread drive system with a piston that would go down when it would turn, so it could turn on a dime. It was a very cool drive system.

Sorry, my bad. I must have been thinking of another short tread unit from about that time frame.

Yes, the Mighty Auk was an impressive machine. But the ball drive was just plain cool.

Re: Treads Or Wheels

Treads are too slowturning, however, it could be useful in this years game where fine-tuning your position could be crucial.

We are going with standard 4WD w/ the AndyMark KOP wheels. They're really nice this gear, grippy, strong, light, durable, and sprockets mount easy. Why not use them? We are going to make the drive system relatively simple this year, to allow us to focus on our custom chassis and other parts that will be relatively complex...

That is not true because team 288 my team has used treads alot and we always turn very quickly it could just be your driver thats turning slowly with those treads

See I would've gone for half track but I got won oer by the majority and saw the "light" lol

Re: Treads Or Wheels

How about wheels with Andy Mark coarse treads. They get the same grip as tracks and they don't break.
