Clear or Plastic Board for Electronics??
 

Do u think it is better to use clear plexiglass or if heavier plastic or metal is needed.

237 has used clear plexiglass or wood for the electronics board in the past. We always try to stay away from metal, since it is easier to have a short occur on a metal surface. We never mount the electronics board in a way that it needs to support a load, so there is no need to use for a stronger material.

The lighter it is, the better.

lexan will do just fine :) Just don't use 1/16" that's to flimsy

Stay away from Plexiglas (acrylic), because it cracks easily. Lexan (polycarbonate) is much more durable when used on robots, and it's easier to work with (less melting when being machined). The thickness depends on what you want to do with it, and how well it's supported. Metal or heavy plastic (e.g. HDPE) are certainly valid options, but by no means necessary.

Consider that you may want to make your electrical board a structural component of the robot, adding stiffness and reducing the need for other structures.
