haha thats cool. maybe this time you wont have to push us back across the home zone line for more points due to the fact we fell over. We should probably be more than enough to compete with this time around :p

Wheels?!?
Ours is going to hover!

(If I can convince the engineers to do it, and that it is even possible. Not that I would know, that's why I'm on animation)

Thats hard to believe because IFI wheels are very well made and they have helped us on our robot numerous times. How were you using them?

We are custom designing and fabricating our wheels. We convinced our local metal shop sponcer to cnc them this year which allows us to make them lighter, stronger, and way better looking :) They go to the shop tonight and should have them tomorrow :D im excited :D

665 is using 4, 7.5" pneumatic wheels we normally use, along with two of the plastic AM omniwheels. The pneumatic wheels work well with a lot of grip, well last year a little to much, we couldn't really turn with the tank drive, but this year we have the omnis and after prototyping a drivetrain like this over the summer, we decided it should work this time with the pneumatic tires.

Are casters allowed?

We are planning on using casters in place of the back wheels on our bot...

Does anyone know of any problems of doing this?

Thanks

Why yes, casters are allowed, as long as they do not have the potential to damage the playing field (smooth). The problems of using casters makes you a target for beingspun around by other robots since you dont really have any substantial friction there. But if it works for you, then use it.

I like these home-made wheels.

But they were time consuming and needed a material upgrade to improve durability, so this year we'll be going with these COTS wheels.

Custom machined aluminum.
Custom Urethane tread molded directly to wheel.

We are using 6 IFI whells as of right now but we might change 2 of them because of scrubbing we still have to test. One of the solutions we have for the scrubbing is to turn the treads over and use the slick side to gain less scrub.

We're using wheels that are like andy marks but we bought them at princess auto. If machined down to make a grove and drilled for the hub they are the 100% exact copy of the andy mark ones

We learned a lot from our drive train disasters from last year. :) This year we are trying out a 6 wheel drive for the first time. 6 6"x1" IFI wheels driven by Andymark two-speeds. All sitting nice and comfy inside a chunk of fiberglass I-beam.
