Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
|
Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
Well, our team has these wheels that turn parallel to the ground and make our robot hover, which will be instrumental in getting all three of our robots off the ground in end game.
BTW, back to the Future stole our idea. :D |
Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
I know my team will be using IFI wheels. IFI has created a really high quality product that is just too easy and nice to use. My team tried to make wheels once, and it worked, but you'll be hard pressed to match the reliability, weight or ease of use of the IFI wheels. Just my 2 cents.
Of course if you need something else such as mechanum or omni wheels then your options are a little bit more varied. |
Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
We'll be using the kit AndyMark wheels, with a few variations in quantity and modifications. (I haven't forgotten everything from my days on 1293.)
|
Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
We're using keyed colsons. Easy to implement and cheap
|
Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
we are sticking to the wheels in the kit, plus some ball casters or sliders
|
Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
Not saying what they are exactly, but let's say the *real* T3 will have more pushing force than last year!
I can't wait to see other teams' creations; those AM wheels should help quite a bit for many of the teams. JBot |
Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
hahahaaha hey I remember you guys from the waterloo regional for the tetra challenge! You guys coming to waterloo again this year? You'll see a better 1565 than last time mark my words!!
|
Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
We will be using the AM Kit wheels; they are so grippy and light that I can't see any reason not to.
|
Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
AN-DY-MARK (repeat)
A half dozen of them. Don |
Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
my team made custom wheels. we used the ifi wheels last year but they weren't very reliable, they actually bent by our second regional. The kit wheels this year look better than previous years, it should help out some newer teams
|
Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
Custom wheels. Made of aluminum, and lighter than the AndyMark kit wheels. We use roughtop tread. For those that saw, they're an improvement on last year's wheels. Quarter pound each.
|
Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
We're using IFI wheels like we did in the previous years....
|
Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
![]() Awaiting some additional machining (read: broaching) and treads, here's Team 228's custom-machined wheels for our 2007 'bot as they appeared at our meeting earlier tonight. :D |
Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
IFI traction wheels ver 2.0
6" x 1" wide six of these with 3 per side and four cims into the 56mm banebot transmissions.:yikes: |
Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
The kit wheels this year are great I'm sure alot of team will use those.
We are looking at the colsin(sp?) and IFI wheels both are excellent. |
Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
using andymark mecanum wheel set. we were considering using the kit wheels, but we phased out of that once we saw a couple clips of what these babies could really do.
|
Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
We're using some really pretty Aluminum wheels with a little secret....
|
Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
Although they have rather fallen out of style in the FIRST community, our team will be using pneumatic Skyways.
They are light, easy to assemble, and easy to attach sprockets to. They also "squish", giving them superior contact with the floor and greater traction. I believe they are only available from Skyway upon special request, and are not in any catalog. |
Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
Homemade Plastic wheels, same great taste, less filling:D
|
Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
222 is going with some custom "old school" wheels. nuff said

can i have half a dozzen waffle-Glased 5" AM traction wheels. and a large coffie to go please?
|
Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
I can't believe only one other team has posted saying they are going with the AM Mecanums... I think the demand for them really caught AndyMark off guard.
We're going with them, I know of two other teams who are, too. I'm looking forward to seeing the robot roll sideways. Jason P.S. I think my favorite set of wheels that I have seen so far were about 8" diameter, cut from two sheets of 3/4" plywood with a few "speed holes" drilled in with a hole saw, a strip of tread screwed around them, mounted on press-fit bearings and driven with a sprocket. Lightweight, grippy, easy and cheap. Wish I'd thought of it. |
Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
Let's just say in the past few days I have either worked with or ordered 3 types of wheels, 2 different treads, 2 different wheel diameters, pulleys, sprockets, two different transmissions, chains, belts, delrin, and 3 different styles of bearings. ;)

As Jacob said, we will have more pushing power this year than last and won't be as easy to turn, both because of programming and because of a kind of sweet drivetrain setup. 4 - 6" dia by 1.5" wide and 2 - 6" dia by 2" wide wheels. The wheel design should be really similiar to that of the new Chevy/GMC pickup and SUV wheels. Of course the 20" version, just scaled of course. Couldn't get them to go with the 22" version of the Escalade. Should be able to post pics of them by Tuesday. |
Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
haha thats cool. maybe this time you wont have to push us back across the home zone line for more points due to the fact we fell over. We should probably be more than enough to compete with this time around :p

Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
Wheels?!?
Ours is going to hover! (If I can convince the engineers to do it, and that it is even possible. Not that I would know, that's why I'm on animation) |
Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
how about these?
http://cgi.ebay.com/Robot-with-Mecan...QQcmdZViewItem wow, also found some things about AndyMark on thier site as well. http://omconsults.net/Bot/Mecanum.htm |

Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
We are custom designing and fabricating our wheels. We convinced our local metal shop sponcer to cnc them this year which allows us to make them lighter, stronger, and way better looking :) They go to the shop tonight and should have them tomorrow :D im excited :D
|
Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
665 is using 4, 7.5" pneumatic wheels we normally use, along with two of the plastic AM omniwheels. The pneumatic wheels work well with a lot of grip, well last year a little to much, we couldn't really turn with the tank drive, but this year we have the omnis and after prototyping a drivetrain like this over the summer, we decided it should work this time with the pneumatic tires.

Are casters allowed?

We are planning on using casters in place of the back wheels on our bot... Does anyone know of any problems of doing this? Thanks |

Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
I like these home-made wheels.
But they were time consuming and needed a material upgrade to improve durability, so this year we'll be going with these COTS wheels. |
Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
Custom machined aluminum.
Custom Urethane tread molded directly to wheel. |
Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
good wheels...lol
|
Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
We are using 6 IFI whells as of right now but we might change 2 of them because of scrubbing we still have to test. One of the solutions we have for the scrubbing is to turn the treads over and use the slick side to gain less scrub.
|
Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
We're using wheels that are like andy marks but we bought them at princess auto. If machined down to make a grove and drilled for the hub they are the 100% exact copy of the andy mark ones
|
Re: Which wheels will you use for your robot this year?
We learned a lot from our drive train disasters from last year. :) This year we are trying out a 6 wheel drive for the first time. 6 6"x1" IFI wheels driven by Andymark two-speeds. All sitting nice and comfy inside a chunk of fiberglass I-beam.
