Hi All,
Team 60 will be there,

I know its been a long time, and I thought I had this all worked out and owerns found, happy ending.

So.......Lets try one more time

Last year we helped take down the field and were the last team to leave,
one of the teams pited around us left some stuff, (tools/hardware)
we would like to return this stuff,
we asked at the kickoff, and no one steped up

Please contact us if you lost this stuff.

Geo.

Team 1852, Team Amore will be there. We've got a few new tricks up our sleeves and hope to see all the cool people we met last year again.

See you at the Colosseum.

That might be us. what was it? The father and son aren't real active on our team anymore, but they said something at our 2nd regional about leaving stuff at phoenix.

Re: 2007 Arizona Regional

We've got 34 teams signed up, looks to be a pretty good regional (sad to see all of our friends from California won't be coming this year, but there's not much we can do to change regional schedules).

On a side note to any Arizona teams, remember that team 39 is hosting the Duel in the Desert again this year if you haven't signed up yet. This is a great event, and since it didn't happen last year, I'll inform all of last year's rookies as well this year's that this is an extremely good way to test out how your robot will actually interact with other robots! Plus it's always alot of fun.

Where can we find information on this? Or team is actually on top of things this year and could finish early.

Noob,

Not everyone coming is from AZ (although most are) and they may not have seen the big orange fireball in the sky for the last few months. Many visiting teams have eaten lunch outside on the grass and soaked up rays every chance they could get. I've been told the primary color during the winter back east is "GRAY".;)

But thanks for asking

Unfortunately La is the same time, so we won't be there.

It was awesome competing against 39(or 64...), 60, 498, 842 and the rest. Hopefully we'll see some of you at San Diego, and all of you at Atlanta.

That sounds so much better than lows below zero in West Michigan! Although I'll be there without my team, I'm looking forward to cheering on 1164 and all the other teams. It will be good to see some of my family and explore Arizona also.

Hey Don,

You forgot to tell our out of state visitors to pack a sweater. It might get chilly at night (like mid 50's.) Team #39 is looking forward to seeing everyone. If there is anything we can do to help you or your team, please stop by our pit.

To those of you who have not heard Don's announcing, he is one of the best in FIRST! Ian Lao, the head referee, is outstanding. Everyone involved with the Arizona Regional are top notch, which is why the Arizona Regional is one of the top FIRST Regionals. Three days and holding our breaths.

Re: 2007 Arizona Regional

I look forward to Arizona being awesome, as always. I don't think we'll have Mark at MC again this year (I'm guessing he'll be at LA), but we always seem to get a good MC regardless.

And we've got Don Knight at announcer. That in itself makes the regional good.

A reminder to all teams attending; team 498 will be making DVDs again this year of all matches at the regional, as well as most (or all) of the opening/closing ceremonies and the awards presentations. We have been giving these out to teams for the past 2 years now, and I hope we can get it to even more of the teams attending this year (I think we managed to get them to about 2/3 of all teams attending last year, I want to beat that this time!). We'll likely be having a list go around with our team for people to sign up for them at the Regional.

Ken,

This is a "very" definite possibility. Jeff Seaton from NASA and our Emcee this year is bringing the computer needed to webcast. If the venue has the needed lines to get it out and the AV guys are cooperative the Arizona Regional will be webcast.

Still working out all the little details.

Thanks for asking!

Yeah, Our Emcee this year is Jeff Seaton, he's awesome. He did the VCU regional last week, he's doing ours and I think one other regional, and of course he'll be at the Championships again this year.

I had the pleasure of being a play-by-play announcer for him the last couple of years at the Championships as we all rotated fields, Arizona is in for another treat.

Sounds like AZ will be great again this year! Alot of surprises robot wise, I've seen virtually no pictures from Arizona teams of their robots, so I really don't know what to expect when I get there Thursday.

I think the venue must have the cables to get the feed out, NASA webcasted the regional last year (the feed got messed up on Saturday from the weather, but it still happened).

The AZ teams who are on CD: do any of you have (or plan to have) autonomous modes for the Regional? It seems like every year auto is really boring at the regional with relatively few teams ever attempting it.

MrForbes 06-03-2007 14:07

Re: 2007 Arizona Regional

1726 has parts of autonomous working...but not the whole thing...hopefully Kevin will get it sorted out by Saturday!

by the time it went in the crate, it could drive forward and stop, all by itself.

I hope you guys can get autonomous working! If you need help (especially with the camera), stop by our pit and ask for me (Andrew). So far we've gotten autonomous turning to and driving a distance from the light, and we've got our arm moving automatically with pots. We would like to use the encoder and gyro for additional turns/drives, but if not we can at least get the arms facing our side of the field.

Regional is tommorow, I can't think about anything else.

The arizona webcast was working great for me, but they just went off for lunch. It is possible that it turned off. I don't know for sure though, I turned it off soon as they said lunch and switched to the florida regional.

Oddly enough though, the final pre-lunch score was 128-2. I switched to the florida webcast, and that was the score of the first match I watched there too.

Arizona was awesome! Congratulations to teams 39, 60, and 1013! It was fun to go against you guys in the finals, and I think you definately deserved the win. It was great to see team 60 get their robot up and running on the last day to become the first pick for alliances.

I think our team did extremely well and learned a lot about the game this year. Watch out Davis, expect to see an even faster and more reliable scorer coming to your regional. ;)

For what it is worth...you were our first choice until the next to last qualifying match. You are a "CLASS ACT" from robot to students to mentors! Thank you for the kind words about our robot. Luck was on our side yesterday. I worried most about facing you guys.

I don't think...I know...your robot did extremely well in Phoenix. You will do well in Davis.

I have to say this is the best Arizona Regional I've been to yet (and I'm not just saying that because I won Steve Sanghi, though that certainly helped make it good).

I got to meet alot of people from CD there; thank you for the picture Jim, and for leading Fredi to find me (I heard you originally mistook my brother for me). Sorry I didn't get to meet you Ken, but I at least saw who you were this year, and congrats on the Teacher of the Year Award.

Thank you to our alliance partners 2134 and 1343; it was a good shot at the 3rd alliance, and who knows how the 3rd match would have played out without that penalty. And nice work 842, 1726, and 1492; when I first saw who we were against, I wasn't sure we'd even have a chance against you guys.

Congrats to 39, 60, and 1013 for winning the regional and bringing back Team Gila for a few hours at least, and to 842 for a 3rd straight Chairman's Victory; maybe this will be your year in Atlanta? I'd also like to say I'm extremely impressed with 1401 from Mexico this year, their robot and team look like a completely different group this year, and I can't not love anybody that scores in autonomous.

I know we'll see some of you in Atlanta this year, and those of you who qualified maybe we'll see you too (39? 1013? 2134?). It was a great Regional!

Yes it was a great Regional! Mexico is getting much better!! It was very rewarding seeing South Mountain, Corona DelSol, Buena Vista (NERDS),and Mexico get awards. Working with them has been very fun. Buena should probably mentor us next year! We hope to be able to do more for Chinlee and Alchesea next year. Being isolated like they are makes it much harder. But we will work on it. 39, 60 and 1013 we thought we had you! Oh well, we gave it our best shot! Maybe next year. Maybe we will be on the same alliance. 1492 and 1726, it was an honor and I would love to continue partnering in the future! We took it down to the wire!! Couldn't get more exciting than that! We hope we get the Chairman's to an AZ team this year. Good luck in the rest of the season and see those of you who make it to nationals in Atlanta!!!!

We go to San Diego next, only taking the girls, let them see what its like to do all the "jobs" Nice to not have Chairman's hanging over us.

We go to Vegas after with the 4 man team we hope to finalize with including final robot designs modifications and programming.

If any one else is going to SD or LV be sure to say hi!! Maybe we can make it to finals together!!

Hey we still need more teams in the National Underwater Robotics Challenge we are hosting with Chandler HS in June, check out www.h2orobots.org, we will help you anyway we can, our knowledge is your knowledge! 480-266-9929 if you want more info.

Congrats 842, 1726, and 1492;) . I was really nervous playing such good teams on the other side of the field.
I just wanted to ask if 1726's arm was broken in the last final? and why all you did was defence when your rampbot was disabled?
By the way, any body has videos from finals?

I'm really glad to see GILA MONSTERS back together. it was a really good alliance 1013 did a good job blocking and 60 was scoring real fast.

See every one in vegas and Atlanta

Re: 2007 Arizona Regional

The arm thing was partly a change in strategy, and also we had a bit of trouble with the claw getting bent up, and it was out of adjustment. The plan (which worked in the second final match) was to run defense and make up for the lack of scoring by ramping....unfortunately Team Caution had some pneumatics troubles before the last round and couldn't get them fixed in time.

Our driver Dan played remarkable defense, he had never done it before, ever!

I do have some video, the second final match is on a pictures page that's linked on an earlier post of mine in this thread (post #39, coincidentally). I can also send you the other two final matches, I'm sure you'd love to have them...pm me

Congrats 842, 1726, and 1492;) . I was really nervous playing such good teams on the other side of the field.
I just wanted to ask if 1726's arm was broken in the last final? and why all you did was defence when your rampbot was disabled?
By the way, any body has videos from finals?

We knew that we were going to play defense against you guys so we zip tied the claw to protect it. We would have clipped it had we known that 1492 was going to be disabled. 1492 wasn't to only ramp available either, we had tried to get 842 to deploy their ramp but it didn't go. Oh well, it was a great finals match none the less. Congrats again to you guys!

Our team taped every match again this year, we'll probably be getting them actually parsed and up in about a week or 2. On that note: if anybody didn't sign our DVD order sheet going around, but wants one, please ask for it here! It's free, and it's got most of the Regional on it!

Re: 2007 Arizona Regional

One of the families of our team records the matches themselves each year (they're family of a former student and friends with some of us still on it). It's a really nice camera so it's not bad quality or anything. We record our own footage because we don't like some of the footage we get in things like webcasts (like zooming in on a robot barely moving back and forth while team XXXX on the other side of the field scores 500 points). There won't be any real time scoring on the bottom, but hey, there's tradeoffs for everything.

I won't start collecting information from CD members quite yet, because this year we actually had some of our students go around with an order sheet during the Regional (in the past we just contacted teams afterwards, but we wanted to get to the teams that don't check contacts frequently so we decided to talk to them at the Regional this year). Once I get the list of all orders I will post up what teams already have DVD requests and then I will ask for additional orders.

The DVDs are free in most cases (if you want 20 of them and are having them all shipped to Canada, I'm not so sure we can do that for free). You can get more than one, and we don't care if others on your team already ordered some.

Typically the DVDs are a 4 disc set, with all ceremonies/awards on one disk, Friday matches on a 2nd disk, Saturday matches (including playoffs) on a 3rd disk, and other random things (Regional slideshow, timelapse of our build, etc.) on a 4th disk. I do not know when they'll be ready, usually we send them out sometime in April or May, part of it this year depends on whether the footage we get at the Championship will be in the same DVD set or will be seperate (haven't had this problem before since we haven't gone anywhere other than AZ in 3 years).

I know 842, 1011, 60, and us were already going to the Championship. Are 39 or 1013 going to go since they qualified? Also, 2134 is trying to go, but they're having to work something out with FIRST to settle payment by Tuesday. I hope all goes well for them.

And if you see this, Don, what field are you announcing for at the Championships this year?

Congrats 842, 1726, and 1492. It was a very very well played final. I did get a chance to talk with the Coach from 1726 early on, team 1726 had great ideas, great design, and a great robot. As well for their finals alliance, the sideways tube placment was a great offensive threat and the just the threat of the ramps really commanded a great deal of our attention and messed with our strategy.

Thanks to all at the AZ Regional, I enjoyed mentoring the students, working in the pits, coaching onfield, and the challenge of the game itself.

#2134 would love a set of DVDs. Please shoot me an email and I will send my mailing address. Also, do you mind if we make copies to give to the students? I'd be happy to pitch in for the cost of the operation...

Also, it was a pleasure working with you guys in our alliance. The Cobra Commanders are a class act!

We're still trying to get to Atlanta. It's looking good. Hopefully we'll see you guys there.

I hope 2134 can make it to Atlanta, it'd be good to see you guys there as well!

Our video of the AZ Regional is slowly making its way onto SOAP's archives. Currently I only have a digitized version of Friday, expect to see it coming on over the next few days. Saturday's video will get up when I have that as well. It is the same matches that we will have on our AZ Regional DVDs, if you want a sneak peak of what we're offering (I don't know how the qualities compare; the DVDs are at least as good as this footage, probably better but I could be wrong).

To see what's up so far, here's the link to SOAP's archives:

Re: 2007 Arizona Regional

We stalled at match 14, for some reason our upload rates started getting incredibly long and timing out so I've given up for tonight. After all the footage is up I think I will upload a notepad file with a match and team list, since there aren't any team numbers to read in the actual match videos.

I have confirmed that we have our DVD order form sheet, I will be getting it back from one of our teacher sponsors on Monday of next and week and will be able to start collecting information for those not on the list then.

Re: 2007 Arizona Regional

All Friday matches are now up, and I should have all the Friday awards up before the night is over. Opening ceremonies won't go up until tommorow since it's a fairly large file.

Saturday probably won't come up for another week or two, hope this is good for now!

Thanks for providing these videos. When you get to Saturday awards please include the outstanding energetic "Mentor Thank You". I don't know if he's going to Atlanta, but I'd love to see that again on Einstein.

All Saturday matches are up, I have the awards, opening ceremonies, and alliance selections from Saturday but won't upload those until later this week.

I don't know if we got the menor thank you from Crush or not, I can check and see. I do know 1011 will be in Atlanta though, so assume that he will be there as well.
