Re: Brazilian Teams may need technical help

To my Friends in Brazil (A meus amigos em Brasil,),

Boa Dia,
Team #75 has been partners with Teams 1382 (Tribotec) and Team 1860 (CEPHAS) and we heard your dilemma with Brazilian Customs. I have gotten your request for the game pieces and Robot components and Team 75 has acquired the parts and sending them to Brazil. You should be receiving the parts ASAP. Please tell my Friends Amarildo, Flavio and Takashi their friend from the US wishes them and all Teams in Brazil Good Luck (Boa sorte).

Team #75 Mentor

Carmine Rizzo

You are right, it may be better so you don't have too many people in your team's forum. Thanks for offering.

We will keep adding more contacts here...

Hi Mandi,

I am working on a list with all contacts to give to Ana, Guilherme, and Ivan. They will give the list to the teams in Brazil and allow teams to contact mentors directly.

I understand that some will not use the forum since not everyone has fast internet connection there. They can use emails or MSN.

The students and mentors that are offering to help know the barrier with the language and they will be fine if we have treads in Portuguese only. No one should worry about writing in English. We can have the English speaker mentors helping those that can communicate in English and the other helping whoever speaks Portuguese... it is something new to me also, we will figure out the best way together.

Thanks for offering your forum. Would you please copy the posts here in your forum? It will be easier to me to keep track of one place only…

Just between us folks, I don't think anyone will have a problem with the occasional thread in Portuguese. Anyone who doesn't understand can always go to Babelfish or the like to get the gist.

On the other hand, I simply cannot imagine not having the KOP by even now, that is a HUGE disadvantage. In the future, perhaps FIRST can pre-ship them some weeks early to a neutral in-country location, and they get shipped to teams from there at kickoff. Ditto other locations where inbound Customs might be an issue.

I completely agree that something needs to be done, but from what I've heard from talking to brazilian teams in the past is that this isn't the first time. Of course, this is the longest i believe its ever taken, but they do receive their kits late often. I wish FIRST or the Brazilian gov't would do something about it... like you said, it puts them at a huge disadvantage.

Re: Brazilian Teams may need technical help

Perhaps giving all Brazilian teams a later ship date this year, maybe 28 February. It couldn't make up for all the time or the robot wouldn't make it to the competition venue on time. But since every team has been delayed, that would seem a fair accomodation.

I don't know why I hadn't already seen this thread, I would be more than happy to help with Programming, Strategy or electronics. Also I can order parts/materials that companies wont ship to brazil and then ship them to you. brownj12@rpi.edu is my email address, unfortunatly I only speak english.

Re: Brazilian Teams may need technical help

Great news!!

Half of the teams are receiving the KOPs and the other half will receive them tomorrow morning. Time to work : )

We are trying to find the best way for the mentoring. We don't want have too many topics in the Chief Delphi using two languages...it can get confusing since other teams will not understand.

Feel free to start another topic to discuss different ways all international teams can use the same forum. For now we will use another forum to get the help them need and also have teams with slow internet access using emails.

Thanks Guilherme for working on the brand new FIRST Brasil Forum. Please register at www.brfirst.org/frc. To register choose ENGLISH, in the bottom left box. They will be translating all threads.

Thank you all for offering to help! You can continue emailing me or posting your ideas here. Caio is keeping an updated list on their forum.

Re: Brazilian Teams may need technical help

I'm glad to hear that the Brazillian teams are finally getting they're KOPs. I was lucky enough to get to go down to Brazil with team 555, so I know how great these teams are. If any of the teams need help with any of the Mechanical aspects, or organizational aspects I am more than happy to help. I'm sure that the robots will be great anyway though, they always are!

Re: Brazilian Teams may need technical help

Williane, if you email Brandon or Start a thread in the Forum suggestion section he may be willing to put up a new section atleast temporarily for teams who would prefer (or need) to post in another language.
