Who is finished???
Has any team finished their robot yet???
|
Re: Who is finished???
The mechanical guys say we should be finished mechanically this Saturday (hopefully), and then I get to start working on the real programming.
|
Re: Who is finished???
Our team is no where near done. We have our design done and hashed out. Fabrication will be taking place for the next 2 weeks. After that we will be programming and testing untill test. Hopefully this will be the first year we dont have to build right up until the fedex truck arrives.
Oh and the robot is only finished after your last competition. |
Re: Who is finished???
ha, i wish we were finished by now...in matter of fact...i hope we finish...
|
Re: Who is finished???
I think we are supposed to be finishing the build this Saturday, but there still would be testing to be done to make sure it works!
|
Re: Who is finished???
wait the six weeks started already!?!?!?!? i better get to work...
|
Re: Who is finished???
Not finished, but on track. We are waiting on some parts from a sponsor who is a little overdue, but as soon as we get those... we have our 40lb (electronics included) drive base finished. Fabrication of peripherals should be done mid next week.
|
Re: Who is finished???
thoughts are coming together... and hopefully they will form a robot.
but hey, whatever the mechanical team isnt able to do the software team can do, right? Shipping date is looking a lot closer than it should.... |
Re: Who is finished???
Robot? What robot?! We were suppose to build a robot. Ah man, don't know how the team's going to take it when I tell them the news.lol
But seriously, we're not even %50 done. We know exactly what we're building, the right parts are the problem. Our OI board, electronics board, and crate is done though. |
Re: Who is finished???
Materials, materials, materials. It seems to be the one biggest problems we're having, having to order something and having to wait on parts. Our frame has been welded and a few other parts of been manufactured. We should have a drive up and running by this weekend if all goes according to plan, as well as our other parts coming together as well :)
These six weeks sure are flying by... |
Re: Who is finished???
The left side and bottom half of our robot is completely done, the right is held on my clamps and springs and a punch tool.

Things really aren't going too bad for us, compared to other years. |
Re: Who is finished???
We finished our first chassis yesterday and we had it driving around. So now, software gets some time to play with it. We have to make some minor adjustments tomorrow, but after that it should be a pretty smooth ride.
Our schedule says that our second robot will be completed two weeks from now. I really think we can pull it off. |
Re: Who is finished???

ya our robot is coming slow and steady. its a slight bit behind schedule, but nothing too bad. we just got two more banebot gearboxes last night (shout out to GODWIN team 540 lives!) and we will finish up the drive once exams are over and we are allowed to work again. besides that, an arm and some small little things need to be added and it will be done. we still cannot decide whether to have a simple scooping mechanism or a claw type grabing thing on the end of the arm, so we are making both. but honestly, making two full robots....gee wiz... |

Re: Who is finished???
we are almost done with our arm's first joint, working on the second joint on the bottom now *hint.* We test drove our base around already which has a good center of gravity, can climb ramps, be a ramp, and can pick up ringers from the ground. bumpers and side panels with team sponsors and # done too! However, our drivers definitely need practice. they drive like my 2 year old nephew with his toy car.:D
|
Re: Who is finished???
We received our non-powder coated, practice robot frame back from the CNC shop on Monday, and we have that assembled. Once our second frame comes back from the CNC shop and powder coating, we'll cease work on the practice bot and work on the real robot.
Our powder coated frame is due back to our shop on Friday, where we can hopefully get the drive chassis done this weekend. We set an overall robot target completion date of one week before ship to give enough time to program it and to allow our drivers enough "stick time" to learn the robot inside and out. |

Re: Who is finished???
We just finished the CAD models today, and shipped them off to be machined. Does that count?
|
Re: Who is finished???
Our team tends to think...and re-think...and prototype...and think a bit more...then suddenly decide to throw it all together and the 'bot is done in about a week.
|
Re: Who is finished???
Depending on how you count, we've made less than zero progress so far -- we partially disassembled last year's robot. :)

Re: Who is finished???
We're no where close. We've got a chassis assembled, with the base support for our arm tower and our ramps attached. We also have the transmissions done and most of the ideas/parts for what we're using, so I'm hoping things will come together pretty quick.
Programming has done a lot of planning, discussing, and looking at example code form prior years/other teams. This is only our second day coding, but already we expect to have working drive code by the end of Friday. Electrical has been designing their system and gathering components, and were figuring out placement of components today. |
Re: Who is finished???
well our drive base frame should be back tommorow from getting powder coated, I've worked on the code on our practice frame/bot, and our mechanism will be finished on saturday (since we don't have time to build it during exam week)... I'd say we're a good percentage done thus far..
|
Re: Who is finished???
Our programming team has drive code, and modules ready for the rest of the operator code ready, we just need some final decisions on what we're actually going to do so we can code it. We also have the camera tracking and are working on a function to center on the goal, which seems to be going nicely. The problem is going to come in distinguishing between the different lights... But all seems good.
Our build team has a chassis put together, gearboxes assembled, we're just waiting on wheels and then we will have a near ready to drive robot. Our track system thing (I don't quite know how to explain it) for getting up the height needed is assembled... without motors, but it's still good. Good prototypes for picking up the tubes also. Electrically we have a control box done (it's pretty nice imo, switches and all mounted), and we have a mock up that should be good to put on the robot as soon as the chassis is finished. Our media team has done deans homework, faxed and emailed letters to everyone it seems. Besides that they are making buttons... nonstop. =P Animation looks promising this year also. But finished? No way. I wish =P |
Re: Who is finished???
I've been coding on a kitbot for the past few weeks, and hold in my heart no hope of seeing a proper robot before me any time soon.
That's ok. Kitbot and I are becoming close. |
Re: Who is finished???
Lets just hope you guys don't do what we did last year.
-We went to kick off. -Got very excited and got our KOP -Started brainstorming -*thinking* -Ship date come -We put our KOP in the crate and ship it out -arrive at regionals ready to build a robot -very confused that other teams were able to build their robot's before we even got there -Then we smacked our selves for thinking that we had to build the robot at the competition, and we had 6 weeks to think about it. hope this helps out the newbie teams! --Dan |
Re: Who is finished???
I'd like to say we are done but no we haven't even finished our chassis we are still waiting for wheels so we can get them spaced right then it should all just fall together. I hope.
|
Re: Who is finished???
Our chassis will be done this weekend. Now we need to get going on our programming and electrical. :ahh:
|
Re: Who is finished???
We're almost done with the chassis I think, whatever almost done means, we'll end up changing or adding something a week from now when we have the electrical on.
|
Re: Who is finished???
well we just finished putting on the 2nd wing . . so all weve got left is to build and mount the arm. the robot should be 90% done this Friday(note the last 10% might take 90% of the total time)
this build is going fast compared to last year |
Re: Who is finished???
Weren't you guys still building your robot in Atlanta last year? :)
|
Re: Who is finished???
Finished?? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA ROTFL
O wait..you're serious? um....No |
Re: Who is finished???
Not done, but we could conceivably be moving by the end of business Saturday. We'll be tackling our Super-Secret Widgets of Graciously Professional Doom next.
(Yes, I brought the phrase with me to 1618 this year. And no, it's nothing that anybody with the team's ever done before in FRC.) |
Re: Who is finished???
once we get a couple of our parts we need it is pretty much assembly and programming.
|
Re: Who is finished???
Our animation team has been done for quite some time!:D :D
We are just waiting on copyrights for now |
Re: Who is finished???
I dont know how you guys can do it. My team last year finished right on time, with the mechanical portion finally done halfway through the competition in Atlanta. I currently have no idea how far they are this year, but I'm guessing itll be down to the wire as it has always been.

That's quite a light drive base, Cody. We're pushing 130+ on our base already :p |
Re: Who is finished???
Quote:
no we were just building a shooter protection thingy. and working out electrical problems with the camera. right now our only concern is weight . . we got to little. our base weighs 31 lb each wing weighs 15, and the arm will weigh . ohh 1-2 lb(dead serious). so yeah we got about 40-50 lb to pick up somewhere between now and mid feb. |
Re: Who is finished???
We more or less have all of the parts and metal we need for the whole bot - we are just waiting on two shipments for gearboxes, chain, sprockets, and shaft. After that, it's just a matter of building and fabricating. EVERYTHING, including the bumpers, lexan top plates, signage, etc. is modeled in CAD so now we just have to do it in real life.
Our chassis body should be completed and together today (we have about 75 holes to drill and tap for 1/4-20). Depending on if those shipments come in today then the whole chassis will be moving by this weekend. If we can get the chassis 100% complete and moving, with electronics, etc then next week we will start building the manipulators. This year we are building the robot step by step, instead of splitting everything thing up and assemble it in the last week (to find that nothing winds up fitting together right). |
Re: Who is finished???
well we will have a robot that drives by tomorrow(saturday) with control system and electrical stuff. we will be putting some pneumaitcs in i think for our ramp but im not sure when we will be done with that...
|
Re: Who is finished???
Were 100% finished with 50% of the robot.

Re: Who is finished???
Yep, I think we're about finished...just the finishing touches on the foil wrap and he'll be ready to go...do you think they'll notice if our robot is a bit more human-looking than usual? ;)
|
Re: Who is finished???
Don't you think its a little early to get 'done'?
We are waiting until the very last minute before our first match  |
Re: Who is finished???
Quote:
Also, our rack and crate are both together waiting for use. |
Re: Who is finished???
We've got most of our bot done. She runs good and she has some power behind her. We just have to do all the finishing touches and she will be 100% done.
*thinks* Maybe we can use duct tape to finish it? I'm such a redneck, lol. |
Re: Who is finished???
We should hopefully be finished by saturday. providing we work hard the next couple of days.:D
|
Re: Who is finished???
we are this far: http://www.othsstudents.k12.il.us/ex...undercon.shtml
|
Re: Who is finished???
were done
jk ya right, but we are doing great everythings done except for are "playing the game mechanism", which is undercover for now. |
Re: Who is finished???
Okay, so we're so close to being done now. It's just tweaking some things before we consider ourselves done becuase we jsut need to finish the final gripper and ramp. This may actually be our first time to attend scrimmage.
|
Re: Who is finished???
we should be done fabricating tomorrow...then all wired up by monday..programming through thursday..then stripping it..sending it to paint..then the fun part of putting it back together!!
we gotta give huge props to our new sponsor this year. you guys might know them.. PELCO!!!:D |
Re: Who is finished???
We are done with our practice robot and monday our competition robot should be finished and driving by tuesday.:)
|
Re: Who is finished???
Our robot is done, but there is major weight issues. Turns out the 1515 for the forklift and grabber is too heavy. We put in an order for 1515 lite (which will shave 20lbs. off our robot), so its just a matter of re-cutting and assembling the new lighter forklift, which takes about 2 hours (bless 80/20 and it's easiness to mount and cut). The only issue is we won't have it until later next week.
For driving and programming purposes, the current robot works fine, so we will continue to practice until we get the replacement 1515. Worst comes to worst we can assemble and replace the material over the weekend. The current stuff on there is still the same exact dimensions and functions exactly the same. As far as programming, today we mainly concentrated on the drivetrain and chassis movement. We dialed in the program for that, as well as the CMU cam movement for autonomous. Next week we will finish programming for the forklift, for both human controlled and autonomous mode. |
Re: Who is finished???
Its all up to our programmer now.

Re: Who is finished???
Mechanically we've got to finish the ramps, pneumatics, and bumpers, all of which are partly or mostly done already. On electrical they're pretty much down to wiring sensors and finishing up the operator interface.
Us programmers have practically all our code done, and a good 1/3 to 1/2 of it tested, we just need the full robot now to test the rest. |
Re: Who is finished???
we have a little bit more to do. arm is on the bot, electrical will be done tomorrow, hopefully will see it all moving before i head back to school. then, just ramps left to fabricate and put on the bot, quincy, last minute fixer uppers and.. ship!
CRUNCH TIME!!:ahh: |
Re: Who is finished???
we are about 4.5 days behind... its crunch time...
|
Re: Who is finished???
Is anyone ever really done?
There's always something that would be done faster or way to get just a little more power out of the motors or tighten up the autonomous. Even the best robots in FIRST history weren't perfect. Even if the robot is competition ready now is the time to tweak it to make it even better. |
Re: Who is finished???
I wish.
We're not in that bad of shape. We are going to run the arm and drive train till it breaks today. But we are still having problems with our latch on our lifters. But we'll get it done:D . |
Re: Who is finished???
done with everything but the ramp and autonomous and some other small things
|
Re: Who is finished???
Team 1015's robot is looking good. It'll supposedly have a ramp, but lesser mentors such as myself haven't convinced the big cheese to ditch it. (Because we need to focus on other things, we wouldn't do it well, and weight...)
Programming is looking good. The camera is working MUCH better than it did last year. We've still gotta finish the bumpers and figure out good chain guard methods (and I think also, a few limit switches on the arm). I'll list my two biggest disappointments with the robot this year. They're kinda obscure though :) - The bumpers. They aren't done. They're easy. Though a handful of students have been assigned the task at various points, NONE of them have shown any initiative. Sure it would be better if I focused on just one student and more often, but I'm only at the build one day a week. - I dislike the robot name this year... again. It's japanese for "Black Sheep" and a pain to pronounce. At least it's using the nickname of a student that actually does work this year. Last year's was named after a less than ideal team member. |
Re: Who is finished???
Our robot looks good... Our lift system for the tubes is amazing. We also have two "ramps" however... I don't think we'll be able to use two of them. Two good ones gets us 10 pounds overweight, and if we use one ramp we can leave in a few cool things.. All in all it should be decent... our control is pretty sweet, that's for sure.
|
Re: Who is finished???
Team 95's robot (Galileo) has finished mechanical fabrication and basic controls testing. We'll continue to develop controls and chase minor mechanical issues for the next week. We'll probably go to a scrimmage as well.
|
Re: Who is finished???
As of right now... Buzz is 95% done.
And extremely underweight (for the first time in 12 years) :) |
Re: Who is finished???
wo0t we just finished today, and just in time for pre-freshman open house!
we still have a few pr:ahh:blems with the pneumatics but we're working on it! |
