Question on mounting components
 

I've been having some problems with space on my board and one of the mentors of my team sugguested the idea of countersyncing the holes so I can mount components on both sides of the board. I checked the rules and I didnt see anything on it. I need to start assembley soon so I figured I'd check here.

Are you referring to your control system? Like RC/Spikes/Victors/etc? If so, you can mount them however you like, there's no specific rules that say where they must be placed, as long as they're wired according to the wiring rules. In the past 1075 has used a two part circuit board, as well as speed controllers mounted nowhere near the main circuit board.

102 has one board with everything on it. Now we built a chassis and forgot to take into account for the space for the board so it's gonna be interesting to see how we get it in now haha. But we some how get the one board to fit.

mounting on both side of the board is fine, provided you follow all the rules. Specifically, the indicator lights on the RC must be visible standing 3 feet in front of the robot in its starting configuration, and the breaker must be accessible for inspection. From a practical standpoint you're really going to want most of the parts to be accessible, or else you're going to give yourself quite a headache trouble shooting.

You can mount your components in a way that you need for your design. Please keep in mind that an inspector does need to see things in order to pass you robot. The main breaker must be accessible by field people for safety and all breakers and RC must be visible to the inspector. Beyond that, check your design for fatal errors should your electronics be damaged by another robot. Damage to things like exposed components or wiring that might occur from underneath should you tip would ruin an otherwise successful weekend.

Care to reference the rule that says that? It's advisable that the RC lights are visible, so field staff / IFI reps can easily see and confirm your RC is ready to go. Unless I'm blind (or if it managed to slip through a team update .. ), I have yet to see a rule that says that the lights on the RC have to be visible from 3 feet away, standing in front of the robot.

The AB indicator light on the other hand, needs to be visible (not sure on the spec, but I know it is required on the bots this year. Perhaps you're getting the RC and the new indicator confused?

Per the recently issued inspection checklist, both the <R16> requirement for signal light visibility and the <R68> requirement for RC indicator light visibility will be checked at inspection. Refer to checklist items 11 and 24.
