Right, except there doesn't seem to be any question that FedEx is an abbreviation for Federal Express and UPS is an abbreviation for United Parcel Service. Seems that there is some discrepancy about what the letters in the acronym "FIRST" represent.
If the CMO is going to publish a document concerning the "preferred, recommended, and requested ways to refer to our programs" in great detail (including the name of the organization), I would think it should be consistent or at least note the difference between the legal name and the preferred name.

Just thought I would throw that out there from one LEGO Maniac and FRC member to others of the FIRST and LEGO community.

Isn't the English language and the new rules it makes every day fun? :D :yikes: :p

Great post Jess, everyone in any aspect of FIRST should read this!!
*Note for The Game Manual writers of '08 - Add this to it!

As an avid Lego builder, I always say "I made this out of x legos. Just putting it out there.

Right from the lego box:

"Dear Parents and Children
The word LEGOŽ is a brand name and is very special to all of us in the LEGO Group Companies. We would sincerely like your help in keeping it special. Please always refer to our bricks as 'LEGO Bricks or Toys' and not 'LEGOS.' By doing so, you will be helping to protect and preserve a brand of which we are very proud and that stands for quality the world over. Thank you!"

This seems definitive...

What do CP, HP, TP, and BP mean on the standings sheet for a regional. I can't find this in the rules.

Those are old...like last year old. CP meant coop points, HP hybrid points, TP teleop points, and BP means bridge points

It appears that this was not updated from last year. CP mean co-op, HP is hybrid, TP is teloOp, and BP is/was bridge points which they appear to be placing the climb points into.

To translate for this year:

HP: Autonomous points
BP: End game tower points
TP: Tele-op points (discs scored)
CP: Not used this year.

I never thought that so many robotics people would be interested in a font.

Can we make a note if how "Aerial Assist" has an 'e' in it? I am seeing too many people talking about helping the little mermaid. :)

That's more of a spelling/grammar issue, not necessarily related to FIRST terms. Although I do think that is worth adding to the OP, especially for people who don't speak English as a primary language or are just bad at spelling.

Another unique thing about this year is the game definitions of ASSIST and CATCH, which are very easy to confuse if some people are using the manual definition and some are using a more colloquial definition. Precise game definitions are a must in this game!
