Right Angle Transmission

We were curious if we could use the CIM FR801-001 motor with a 90 degree transmission. Does anyone know where we can find this? Thanks!

You can use any transmission you want. As for "ready-made" 90 degree CIM transmissions, I don't think there are any. However, you can buy a set of bevel gears and make one yourself that attaches to the output shaft of a normal gearbox.

I've often wondered if this thing could be useful on a robot. Seems like it wouldn't be too hard to adapt to. I wonder if it would withstand a CIM. I haven't seen it in person, but, if it is on the CIM before any geardown, it seems like it would.

Most drill motors are pretty comparable to the CIMs in terms of output power, so I'd venture to say that that would work. Thanks for the link, I've never seen a ready-made package like that.

Check here http://www.surpluscenter.com/powerTr...e=powerT rans

They usually have some lself-propelled awnmower gearboxes for a low price, in the transaxle category. If they can take a couple of horsepower lawnmower engine, they should hold up OK.

However, drill motors tend to have considerably less torque, which is potentially just as much of a worry.

Harbor freight has another model of the right-angle adapter that is all metal. It's black in color. The shaft is round, so it would be easier to mount. I don't see it on their site now, but it often comes on sale. I have one and it seems well made. It is nearly, but not quite, 1:1 gearing.
