Our teams Relief valve is leaking at low PSI. What is the proper assembly for the relief valve?

The relief valves are adjustable. There is a double-nut system to keep them tight, so first (with NO PRESSURE on the system...) release the thin inner lock nut, then tighten the larger, outer cap to increase the release pressure.

Give it a test. You should have it set to release at about 120 psi. If you go above 120 psi loosen it off, if it lets go before 120, tighten it up. (I like to do these adjustments with the system depressured.)

When you get it set to 120, then tighten up the lock nut snug to the cap.

Check it again... and you should be good to go.

Thank you I hadn't realized that, its helping but it still seems to be leaking, is the valve supposed to be assembled pointed piece>spring holder>spring>then finally end cap? I think the reason it may be leaking is because A. its assembled wrong, or B. there is dirt pushing that pointed piece up from the hole... Does this seem like reasonable possibilites, and did I assemble the valve right?

Jason,

Please read rule <R102>.

The wording is archaic as years ago the valve was pre-installed on the compressor. However, the valve comes pre-adjusted and should not be tampered with.

The relief valve parts were loose when the bag was open so one of our students took the end of the valve off and apparently put it back together again. I later found a small brass disc on the floor and they said that they recognized it. Is there an exploded view of this valve anywhere? I am not sure we have all the parts or if they are all back where they belong.

I would contact FIRST and ask for a replacement.

hmm, well today when i worked on our pnuematics we encountered difficulties with the valve and had to take about 4 hours just to find leaks in the pnuematic system and put teflon on all of our brass plugs and everything else that seemed to be leaking.

i would check to see if any other part of the pnuematics system is leaking before you try to ask for a replacement or anything... make sure that it's the part that isn't working.

just a question do you have to mount the relief valve on a certain side of the compressor

Until this morning I would have said no. However, the discussion and ruling in the GDC Q&A in this thread says yes.
