Screws in Inventor
 

Could someone either:
1. Tell me where i could find screws online to use in our assembly.
2. Explain to me how to make screws in Inventor.

I searched for other threads and couldnt find anything on it. I'm on a rookie team and the Inventor team is made up of all freshman. So we dont have much experince and havent been able to figure out how to do it.

Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

I suggest using the content library, built into Inventor, to find your correct or screw. If it's metal you're working with inside an assembly, you could also use the bolted connection feature in design accelerator.

Bolted connection works for some of them. The content library wasnt installed when we set it up so we dont have it. that was our first thought. Any other ideas? :)

If you want to model screws, just make a plain cylinder for the threaded part of the screw. Then use the Thread tool and choose the cylindrical surface. It won't show the physical shape of the threads, but it's better than making a complex set of features that's only a rough approximation of the real thread shape. The Thread feature is fine because it sufficiently represents the design, including thread standards.

One of the things I like about VirtualCAD is that they have Fastenal part numbers. Since we buy a lot of screws from Fastenal, it is convenient to use the model from VirtualCAD and then we already know what part to buy.

You have to register to download CAD models. I usually download the iges version and then open it up in inventor and save it as an inventor part. This avoids the occasional inventor crash that seems to happen every now and then when I am mixing model types in my assemblies.
