I'm noticing gears sticking out above your chassis. I know in years past, the game objects have ended up in every possible place on a robot, and some impossible. Do you guys have any plans to cover the gears to stop tubes from being shredded?

Cough wanna be 254/968 bot cough.
:p

Just kidding guys. From what you have all told me it sounds great. I wanna see it with that beastly arm on it though.;)

Eh, I think you'll find we have some cool ideas of our own.

2 sets of bearings doesn't always mean 4 bar. One could be for a motor/transmission input. ;)

Very, very, pretty. You sure put effort in what you build. Can't wait to see it on the field!

Does that look a little scaled down or is that just the angle?

Your arm looks nice but the fortê that grabs me is the low wheel base. How do you plan to scale a ramp?

Chris

I'm pretty sure they have the corners of their drivebase angled up, to allow getting on the ramp with ease.

Looking closely at the photo, you can see "sleighs" at the front and rear edges of the robot. I'm not sure what they're technically called, but these little slanted cuts remind me of the front of a horse-driven sleigh. When you hit something horizontally with them, they transfer the force vertically, and let you go up it.

Last year 177 implemented something similar using a hacksaw. 125's solution looks more elegant.

It's not scaled down. The chairs behind it probably did that. Black also has the effect of looking a bit "small" from a distance. We can climb ramps up to 33 degrees, so the low wheel base is not particularly an issue.

I'd recognize a certain person's laugh of excitement from anywhere. *Cough* Henry. Very attractive bot 125! The maneuverability of that machine is disgusting in a very good way! Great work and can't wait to see it in action with a beastly arm.;)

I spot me a Tom, and hear me a Henry (and see him getting pushed too).

Yes, that was Henry being pushed. For reference, he weighs around 185 pounds (up to 200, depending on which scale that you ask ;) ). I'm in the background there too, but making noise isn't my strong suit (nor is that camera's audio, sorry for the sound issues).

Thanks, that video was taken in the Curry Student Center at Northeastern University. The student center is the traditional proving ground for robot testing as seen in this picture from 2004. It's also the home of Wendy's, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut :yikes:

i dont see a transmission or anything...

what happens if something gets caught in your electronics/circuits?

that would suck if something metal short circuited your bot and something happened

The transmissions are built into the side plates of the drive train.

We are going to be adding shells to the robot to protect electronics, I believe.

The stability of that 6wd is amazing! What's your drop on the center wheel, 'cause I want to change ours to do THAT!

BEN

1/8"

I think the the smoothness of the drive can be attributed to three things:

A) The tread pattern of wedge top. It seems to have a lot of grip in the forward/reverse direction, but not a ton side to side.
B) We still haven't mounted our arm, so frictional force between the wheels is at a minimum. We plan on the COG being pretty low most of the time, so this shouldn't become a huge issue over time.
C) Our interior frame is ridiculously rigid. I've been told the rule of thumb with 6WD is to keep your frame from flexing around alot.
