336 would be the perfect number. It would mean 84 teams per division. And since 84 is divisible by 6, no surrogate matches would be needed. 14 matches would be needed per round. Which means it would take 98 matches to get each of the robots to play in 7 rounds. This spread would also mean that there is no reason any robot should ever have to play in a round with any robot more than once (whether with or against).

Well, I couldn't wait.. so I added in the pending teams. A list that includes pending teams that eventually don't sign up is just about as off as a list that excludes teams that will eventually sign up, IMO-- but including the pending teams may pull the list closer to the actual one?

I didn't get any official list.

I assumed the waiting list for non-qualifyers wouldn't get touched, then looked at the FIRST profile of each of week 5's qualifying teams. If I saw them with FIRST Championship listed as an event, then I added them in. I think I got the idea to do this after seeing one of your posts.

actually, it looks like the first 2-3 spots on the waiting list will qualify for nats.

including the fact that some of the international teams won't be going...

336 seems passable, but i don't think thats going to happen, i see more along the lines of 340-348 going.

The same thing that was wrong in the world in 2005 when they didn't go despite winning both regionals they entered.

The Championships these days may not be as alluring as going to a few more Regionals. Especially with the extended costs associated with it.
