It's the formula FIRST uses (line up the teams by number and count 1,2,3,4. Divide them up by that an repeat.) There will be an additional 125 to 150 teams added to the mix. It's just a weekly FIRSTgeek thing to do betwwen competitions.

Based on experience, this implies nothing about the overall winner on Einstein. It does make for some exciting divisional play though!

how exactly do all of these teams qualify to go to nationals before even going to the regional? I know that if you win chairman's, then you get to go to nationals forever, but how else are all of these veteran teams already guaranteed a spot?

They all signed up when registration opened for Championships towards the end of last year. More teams will be added as the regionals progress.

KoKo, you are always thinking slightly outside the box. Has anyone ever done a "Fantasy Robotics" game? You sound like the man to do it.
Good luck to everyone this year.

Based on previous years and the little info we've seen this year, I've gotta disagree and say Curie is tops. Curie is loaded (Beatty, 'Stang, and the Poofs in the same division two years in a row!?!).

Has there been any indication that the divisional assignment criteria will be the same as in previous years? I know last year we came up with several possible alternatives: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=44782

The problem with 1-2-3-4, 1-2-3-4 is that teams like HOT and Trucktown Thunder can never be in the same division, because their team numbers are consecutive. A serpentine assigment (1-2-3-4, 4-3-2-1) wouldn't solve that. But a random draw from groups of teams (1-100, 101-200, etc) could.

Not to mention PINK, RUSH, Chief Delphi, The Frog Force and that one team from Bloomfield Hills that builds some of the best bots in the world the Las Guerrillas (Man Michigan Teams are Good:D ). I can understand why he would say Archimedes however. Raider Robotix, the T-Kats, Thunder Chickens, More Martians, Simbotics, Miss Daisy, RAGE, The Huskies and MOE are all very amazing teams.

If I were to rank them right now I would go
CURIE
ARCHIMEDES
GALILEO
NEWTON

That means I am ruling out Curie to win the championship. I think I would pick Newton to win it all because they are the least likely. I know it sounds backwards but that is what I am thinking.

this was the case for Newton last year (Beatty, Satngs, Poofs and many others) and yet Archimedes won out. That'll still going to be one heck of a division if it stays like that.

FIRST will never change that formula.
There's no reason to.

Curie is too loaded, and will blow itself out.

They might to let members of the GM & UTC blocks play together. I want a new format, I'm tired of not being able to play with Wildstang and the Robonauts!

FIRST would rather have established legendary teams play with the newer less established teams so they can be inspired by working with them instead of letting those all star teams work together and run through the championship like a hot knife through butter.

Re: 2007 Championship Divisions

I hope they get jostled around so 45,71 and 111 can be on the same field again. Regardless it looks pretty good this way, but with 125-150 teams more they can really become more/less strong.

Sgraff_SRHS06 20-02-2007 19:42

Re: 2007 Championship Divisions

Right now, Curie is stacked. I'm emphasizing right now because so many other teams are on the waitlist for the event and probably will get in as soon as registration opens up again.

Both Curie AND Archimedes are stacked. And nobody mentions Archimedes (25, 45, 56, 70, 122, 173, 178, 217, 341, 365, 401, 1114, 1218, 1503, 1511, and 1731). And that's just the beginning.

Sure, you have Buzz, Pink, Wildstang, and the Poofs among others in Curie, but you have two teams (Buzz and the Poofs) that are going to be distracted by all the visitors.

To be honest, the divisions all look equally tough and it's going to be really tough for any 1 division to come out a winner.

Re: 2007 Championship Divisions

I have a question. Since first does a 1-2-3-4 thing, for teams that qualify from this point on, do they get added to the bottom of the list to be like this:

a f h p
s u x z
c g i y - The new teams attending

or will they put them inside the order like this?
a c f g
h i p s
u x y z - (bolded words are in order here)

Thanks.

Why not also include the other qualifiers, Engineering Inspiration award-winners? 1188 and maybe others should be red. (Rookie All-Stars can also go to Atlanta, but they would be additions to the list.)

Don't forget 2068 (VCU Rookie All-Star) and 2108 (VCU Regional Winners)!

Andrew Schuetze 11-03-2007 15:17

Re: 2007 Championship Divisions

I had only thought to add in the regional champions and chairmens. I didn't add in the rookie all-stars since rookies can't register for the championship. In fact, I did not add any teams to the list. So what else qualifies one for the championship? Engineering Inspiration???

I'll go back and check the regional award lists again and look for omissions and errors:)

The intent of my list was to identify teams already registered who qualified based upon 2007 performance. This will allow for additional open registration slots to teams on the paid yet on the waitlist.

I certianly add my congratulatons to all the winners and awardees at the recent regionals who were not already registered for the championship even.

I found the championship team list

https://my.usfirst.org/myarea/index....alse&event=CMP

There are 229 teams registered, but it doesn't show the teams that are pending

Ed Coleman 11-03-2007 15:47

Re: 2007 Championship Divisions

You need to add team 829. We were regional champs at St. Louis and are on the list of teams going.

Check the previous years threads.
You'll find them pretty acurate. FIRSTs formula for calculating divisions is very simple.

cziggy343 11-03-2007 16:04

Re: 2007 Championship Divisions

but isn't it a little early, since there are three weeks left? i mean, i no that the formula is simple, and this will be close, but it'll shake up.

No.
Actually they just slide the other teams on down and just keep going 1.2.3.4, Repeat.
It's been that way all the years I've been in FIRST.

Yeah... it would be a giant bracket. Can you say in upwards of 300 teams to chose instead of 64? Or then I suppose you could do one for elimination rounds.

I need to check the other teams, #2243, #2244 and #2026 about that. And also the teams that will attend others regionals(#383 and #1772).

Best of luck!

See ya=D

add 399 to that list, they won chairmans at SoCal.
Also, add 1138, we won Engineering Inspiration.

Odd, my team was in the second column to start with, now it's in the first. Is it going to keep moving as teams are added?

it just says that 11 teams are pending, it doens't say who they are, but im guessing it's all the teams that are supposed to be on the list that aren't.

yes, it'll change a little b/c teams are dropped in the list in numerical order. so as new teams come in, others are moved around.

Curie and Gali look to be loaded this year. Would anyone else pay to see 71 and 1114 in the same alliance, I just don't think one alliance could be so great. That would go down as the greatest alliance ever. Except if 494, 111, and 191 got together on Galileo, man if that alliance happen my life would be complete.

Galileo looks stacked (at the last time the list was revealed)

Expect 25, 56, 176, 180, and 501 to wreck havoc. Also watch out for 469 and 2108.

We wouldn't complain (though I hope either you guys or Wildstang would have a ramp or we'd be eventually screwed).

In terms of single-year performance, 1114 & 1503 in 2006 are still the greatest alliance ever (3 regional wins together will NEVER happen again). In terms of historical perspective, the 2006 pairing of 254 and 71 is pretty impressive.

Right now the 2nd and 3rd columns are stacked.
16, 33, 67, 111, 173, 217, 237, 503, 1038, 1444, 1503 and 1885 all in division [2].
68, 103, 116, 125, 175, 179, 233, 254, 364, 494, 703, 987, 1622, 1902, and 2068 all in division [3].

Galileo is looking pretty though now. Although, the other divisions seem to be pretty tough as well.

Must be easy being team 4 or 16 now.... Knowing their division most likely won't change.

Chris, i think you forgot a team on the last list

note that they are 248 teams, that means all the divisions should have a equal amount of teams. one of the teams are missing

there should be 62 teams in each division

Re: 2007 Championship Divisions

Element and the Bomb Squad don't look as safe as it seems---

Element can only move to Galileo if the Juggernauts (Team 1) get in.
The Bomb Squad's (16) position will depend on if either 5, 7, 8, 9, or 11 (MORT) register--but if MORT is confirmed and nobody else goes, the Bomb Squad finds itself in Newton. 12, 13, 14, and 15 either never existed or folded a long time ago.

Koko Ed 15-03-2007 21:23

Re: 2007 Championship Divisions

Don't forget.
FIRST will probably do a short period of open registration to get in teams that can afford to go but didn't exactly qualify so teams that are regualrs but didn't sign up yet may still do so later.
