The 2007 High Score Thread

I know the competitions aren't quite done yet today, but I noticed CD was lacking a 2007 high score thread (honestly, I thought it would be up after the first match today!).

It looks like right now 1495, 25, and 1218 hold it from New Jersey with a 260-0 win.

Anyway, update with the new high scores and maybe the high score for each regional as well.

Re: The 2007 High Score Thread

So far at PNW, the highest score we've seen is 128-0.

260... incredible, but I bet we'll be seeing a lot more.

It appears defense isn't quite as integral to this game as we might have expected. :p But, I guess we'll know better after the finals tomorrow.

Re: The 2007 High Score Thread

The first regionals are always very clumsy. Refs will look at rules, teams will discuss stratedgy, and people will have more time to prepare.

So far, I've seen one 128-0 at VCU. They'll be a 256+ before nationals. However, I'm expecting both offence and defence to sharpen considerably by next week, possibly even tomorrow.

I'm not sold. After watching some of the web cast from VCU, many teams are just driving around in circles if they can't score. There's a few teams actually scoring, alot more attempting to score, and the rest drive around in what appears to be an aimless fashion. The last few seconds, people try to get onto ramps. There isn't much defense even being attempted from what I can see!

Exciting game too...;)

I question the viability of the opposing alliance's drivetrains....or if they were even out there for the match.

Even so, good job hanging that many ringers.

Yeah i bet there drive trains were broken or they were all failing ramp bots...i wanna see an alliance of 3 high goal scorers vs. 3 low bots/ramp bots...lol

we had another row of 8 at NJ with 237 and the bee team (sorry guys that I don't remember your number), but there was a 20 pointer against them so it was like 236-0. That was against 3 rampers.

I've got to come clean: 1495 scored no points that round!!!! We made some disgusting blocks though. We stopped at least 2, which definitely paved the way for the full ring.

If we had that alliance again, AND we get our ramp working at the end, we'd be killer.

that was before the penalties, that match 116 scored all of those points, but in the end they incurred two 10 point penalties for being in the opponents home zone. and there was no defense played on them the whole match.

they also scored a keeper in auto, that round

I think you overlooked that a big reason that 116 was harrassed very little, if at all, in that match is that the 1885 (our/my team) Robocat was their wingman.... The opposing alliance was definitely trying to "play defense on them"; but we (the red alliance) all stuck to our agreed roles and ensured those defensive efforts fell short.

I forget the other Red alliance bot's name/number, but they played a part in the win too.

I believe there was only one bot playing defence againt you guys. 975, my team, got a keeper rung around our flag pole, so we couldn't pick up anymore pieces, our stratigest just forgot to suggest we play defence. Also, 122 deployed their ramps early so they were a nonfactor since they sat in the home zone the whole time.

At the Granite State Regional the high score was 256pts with team 501, I believe 58 and another robot i forgot. This game is really proving to be very well balanced between strategy, defense, and offense. Last years was very fun but this game feels so basic and natural it make the rounds way more competive.

I'm pretty sure that's impossible, unless it's a BYOT match. Bring your own tues, that is. You get 3 keepers and 18 ringers of each color in a match, so that's 21 of each color...with 24 spots to score on the rack. So, unfortunately, we won't be seeing anything over 596.

(Also...two rings of 8 around would be 536, so long as they're also making little rows of two vertically. :D )

And I say KUDOS to the teams that don't mind playing defense like that and sticking to it. It's not all scoring, as that match proves...high scores come from robots who aren't being shoved around, and that comes from tough teammates who do the countershoving.

But there are robots that put tubes up well and have so much power to just push there way to any spot even if someone is defending. Two speed transmissions, super high traction wheels, and four cim motors seem to be a rare thing on robots this year. It feels like not too many teams went all out on there drivetrain like in previous years

From what I've seen on the webcast, I'd tend to agree. It seems like people went for agility over power this year to maneuver closer to the rack more effectively.

And the 7 rows of 8 equals 56 and add all that up and you get 628 points as a max score and if any team does that they would be my hero. and from what i saw it might be team 501. If they had more time.

That match was amazing, and made our alliance of 1474/500/1073 feel a lot better when they only beat us 64-8 in the finals...

1824 has a great ramp and 501 is an excellent stacker, but lemme tell ya, Buzz is going to generate quite a bit of eponymous activity at Nats...

yea that one stung

btw... scoring all 24 would be

256x3=768+(8(columns of 3)x8))=832+60(ramps)=total possible score of 892 points

Since you get a maximum of 18 ringers and 3 keepers, you have a maximum of 21 tubes. If you can score all of these tubes, this will get you 2 rows of eight, 1 row of five, and 5 rows of three for (2*256)+(1*32)+(5*8) for a maximum of 584 points. If you add 60 bonus points, you get a maximum score for this year's game of 644 points.

Only Andy Baker can score more than 644 points this year. The flux capacitor and 88mph shifting transmission on his 'bot allow him to go back into the future and take three additional tubes from future matches. In autonomous. :p

Two 256 rounds, a 260, a 250 (260 before penalties), and the 305. The 305-30 went about like this: row of 8 on the middle, one below, one robot (team 4) at 12" and team 254 at 4" on 330's ramps, versus one at 12" on 696's lift.

what if the opposing alliance de-scored three of your ringers, and you placed each on an unscored leg? the de-scored one would still count, per the rules

I've read that some feel that scoring will dramatically increase at nationals. I feel that perhaps it will in prelims, but by the time elim matches roll around, you're going to have practiced offensive and defensive robots keeping the scores relatively low. I don't think there'll be a huge score at nationals in elims, since all the bots would be high-caliber.

That's the current high score of the season I believe, set by 501, 175 and their third partner whose number keeps escaping me in the quarter finals of the BAE regional. I don't think it's been tied or beaten yet.

That was an amazing match. I believe we put up 5 and 968 put up 4. Completing a ring plus one vertical. It helps to have a robot on your alliance that can play good defense.

At the Bayou Regional the high score was by us and 1421, 2242. Our alliance scored 94-0. Not as high as other regionals but nonetheless there it is. There was a lot of talk about how high the score could get if the top scoring bots could get on the same alliance but it just didn't seem to happen much with the new match pairings.

This happened at the wisconsin regional... 3 ramp bots (one was also a low scorer) were one of the alliances in the finals... they ended up in second place... even overthrowing the 1st seed alliance in semifinals!!!

25, 358 and 1991 just tied the high score 316 - 2

Pretty exciting because 25 flew up the ramp in the last sec and almost fell off

Extra drama - 25 crashed into the rack in auton, dropped their keeper, yet it still fell onto the leg.

ya almost forgot about that. It looks like they overshot their position then tried to lift up to the middle spider and ended up pulling the tube up and over the bottom spider.

Whats ironic, is that we tied it with ourselves... Except last time, we were on the losing end (316 - 0) :p.

Just goes to show how alliance partners make a huge difference.

first match of the day the final score was 290-2. team 668 and team 100 placed a total of 11 ringers and 100 got on 668's ramp)

then 128-0 later int eh day with 668 and 114.

those are the 2 highest scores at SVR for now.

The highest score so far at the Chesapeake regional is 264 - 0 done by 293 (Spike), 768 (TechnoWarriors), and 1915.
Team 1727 scored a 256 - 2. We scored four and team 75 (Raiders) scored four. Our alliance partners 1464 played amazing defense for us.

Re: The 2007 High Score Thread

Highest score at the Peachtree Regional so far has been 128-8.....sadly, against us (1261). We're a scoring bot, and on our alliance we had another scoring bot and a ramp bot. The other scoring bot's drivetrain broke very early in the match, and the third bot's ramp jammed and they were not able to lower it. So, the other alliance basically had a free field, while their ramp bot was able to play a strong defense on us.

But what would be more significant of excellent design and driver skill would be how many ringers a single robot was able to score. In one of our matches, we were the only scoring bot on our alliance, and we got up a row of 6 on the top tier (would have been 7, but we dropped one). Ever since that match, however, we've had quite a few opposing alliances that send a bot to play defense on our bot alone, hehe.

768 is definitely the must-have before the Championship is over with.

Don't forget the rows going upwards:
256 (full row going horizontal around the rack) x 3 rows = 768
8 (full row going vertically on the rack) x 8 columns = 64

So the max score would be 832, would it not be? (Correct me if I am wrong :) )

You'd have trouble finding that many ringers on the playing field...

You'd only need 24 ringers to get the full rack. I think the bigger challenge would be putting all those ringers on before the other team gets a ringer on there. I'm sure a spoiler or two would be used if there was a case of an alliance owning the full rack.

EDIT: Ah, now I know what you mean, there are only 19 ringers for each alliance during a match; 22 if keepers are counted. So you could ALMOST own the whole rack.

Three Keepers and 18 ringers are all that you can possibly score

R R R R R
R R R R R R R R
R R K K K R R R

Thats the rack after you score those tubes

544 points horizontal
52 points vertical
=
596 points on the rack total

Plus 60 points for two robots

=

652 points MAX

Today in the quarterfinal matches at Peachtree, our alliance (1746, 1057, and us) won 128-2, then 256-15.....which was then topped in another match when an alliance won 262-0.

Congrats to the winners (I forget the numbers, and final results aren't yet up on FIRST's site), and good luck in Atlanta.

I think that if the other team descores three of your ringers you could actually fill every spider on the rack.

I forget if it was quarters or semis, but 1127, 1369, and ourselves won a match 260-0. Not sure if that's what you were referring to, or maybe I missed a match that was 262-0?

So if you hang all three keepers, hang all your other tubes, have three of them taken off by the other team, put them in the empty spots, and get two robots a foot off the ground, you'll get max score? What are we waiting for, then? Let's do it!

Yeah, that's it, I was mistaken. Those were the only two times at Peachtree that a full 8-ringer row was hung

We (team 935) and our alliance partners 1775 and 1997 were at the Greater Kansas City Regional and made 260 points in our first quarter-final match and 256 points in our second quarter-final match. Both of which were without ramps.

I would like to thank 1997 for their excellent defence and 1775 for their excellent scoring.

I would also like to congratulate teams 2165, 1806, 2004 on making it to the finals, way to go guys.

That was the single most impressive throw I've seen so far. I thought at first a robot had scored it, that was awesome.

I had heard it was against a single opponent. Not that it makes the score that much less impressive, but it's definately easier to go from a good score to an amazing one with less defense.
