Re: 2007 Monty Madness
103 has a few extra tubes hanging around that we'll bring with us to Monty
|
Re: 2007 Monty Madness
I'll check with some 102 members when I get back to Jersey [currently in Richmond for the NASCAR events haha] and I'll see what I can gather up
|
Re: 2007 Monty Madness
David, do you have a tentative date for volunteer assignments to be handed out?
|
Re: 2007 Monty Madness
I'll check to see what 1089 has laying around as far as tubes go. I know we have at least 5. =)

Trust me when I say they have many new tubes from the championship. The tubes that were given away were ones that were "already inflated" or "popped". There are still brand new ones out there still in the packaging. Just not many - which is why this and other off-season events need extra tubes - b/c FIRST is giving each off-season event an equal amount which may not be enough to cover the events entirely. After reading the last couple of posts I'm kinda surprised that FIRST is not sending any tubes with the field. Ponders what happend to the "special stock". Only those working at Atlanta as Field Repair / Reset know what I'm talking about. What do you need as far as volunteers are concerned? |
Re: 2007 Monty Madness
Did i mention that i'll be there?
Well than, I'll be in NJ finally for Monty Madness. btw, i signed up for volunteering, but haven't heard anything yet. Any idea? Imad |
Re: 2007 Monty Madness
I keep getting an Invalid Input when I submit the volunteer form - I tried 2 different emails. Am I missing anything? I'll just email my request to save the headaches =).

Re: 2007 Monty Madness
I'll be at Monty without my team this year but with a few friends.
w00t! So that pretty much that means I'm looking for a team to adopt me for the day, or Conor or Aroon & the rest of 1403, if you need any help at all (unofficially of course. :p ) then just come seek me out. 7 days OMG!!! YAY!!! Also to anyone attending, I have a bunch of 237 T-Shirts to trade for some XL's for myself. PM me before then to reserve one. See you all there! :] |
Re: 2007 Monty Madness
FVC3053 will be there for the FVC Demo/Competition (which one it is more like really depends on how many teams show up). We'll be bringing our competition robot, and when we're not competiting/demoing with it, anyone can come on over and take a turn controlling it. Additionally our team has built to two additional Vex robots for people to use all day. Please stop by the FVC area and enjoy!

Occam's Engineers has a very small secret which now no longer needs to be one:
Today VexLabs introduced new Advanced Gear Kits and Large Omni-Directional Wheel Kits. We got sent the parts a few days early and have built two robots to show off the new parts. Pictures were posted on this forum, they'll be up as soon as they are approved. The robots were built with the sole intention of having people come over and take a turn driving them around. So please do! |

BTW, tune in for the super high quality webcast courtesy of NASA. You won't believe how clear the picture is when you see it (I saw it last night and I am still in a state of shock over it). Also, if you aren't coming... tune into the webcast to see some of the extra special things that we have planned. See you all in a day or so..... |
Re: 2007 Monty Madness
Yeah webcast will be up and running on Saturday sometime, check out the Monty Madness site and here for details. Anywho, the field looks great it's almost done, we just got some electronics to do. The only problem was that we didn't have any ladders to put the rack up, but it got up with some innovation and now it's as good as Einstein. Anyway, I hope to see everyone soon, so drive carefully! There are still some surprises for everyone to see...

lol I kinda liked the numbers in reverse espicially for the field thats suppose to look better then the other ones combined =). I won't say who fumbled that one but I can assure that it wasn't the people who set up NJ & NY =). You should be happy that the numbers were still in numerical order =). CYA guys on Saturday.

Most of all-Thanks to 1626 and 1396 for picking us!!! (HaHa, we realized in the finals that all of our last number together make 666...........Spooky) Also Thanks to 75 & 1403 for hosting the amazing monty madness. Props on the light shows they were really sweet. |
Re: 2007 Monty Madness
Monty Madness was awesome! Thanks to 869, 1403, 2070, and most of all 103, for such a great set of matches. 869, 2070 & 1403, y'all were GREAT alliance partners, and to 103, I have never seen such a great display of GP.
For those of you who don't know, 1923 was called in for the last match of semi-finals to replace 2070, and when we had found that a few of our members had already packed up and left without us, 103 lent us their practice bot to play...in a match AGAINST 103! Cassie from 103 also coached us, and 103's drive team taugh us how to use the controls. To make the incredibly long story of the incredibly long finals a little bit shorter, We lost in the end to a really great alliance of 2016, 1626, and 1396. It was great playing with y'all, and I hope to get to compete with you guys soon. Thanks to 1403 & 75 for hosting such an amazing event. CONGRATULATIONS to "Big Mike" Schroeder on the Woodie Flowers Jr Award, our favorite Winnie the Pooh definitely deserved it. ....I miss Monty already! |
Re: 2007 Monty Madness
Monty was awesome!!! And I really hope everyone had a great time... From the matches to the light show to just everything, it was incredible. I wish Monty Madness 2008 was here.
And I must give a HUGE thanks to Dave Kazan, Wayne Penn, and George Ackley for allowing me to MC the last two matches in the qualification matches :) Thank you Team 1403 and Team 75 for making all this possible!!! Great teams :) |
Re: 2007 Monty Madness
Once again Monty Madness was madd awesome congrats to all the teams that won. Sadly, me and Tdorthebnator (danny) left before the final match becuase it was his dad's wedding anniversary and he had to get home. I did see the crazy rave light show thing though. Also madd props to the royal knights it was cool when you guys started to use the 103 machine. I was scared a wormhole or something would open when both 103 machines went against each other.
|
Re: 2007 Monty Madness
Thanks so much 1403 and 75 for hosting yet again, a great offseason event. Those extra hours really paid off. I had a great time watching and volunteering. Congrats to the winners as well.

Re: 2007 Monty Madness
The Definition of what a Chairmen's Award Team was shown to me again today. As Libby said, 869,1403, & 2070 called in their substitution and I jumped for joy, i was going to get to see my kids compete in eliminations :). so i ran to the pits to help prep the robot, to see my pits empty, and I won't lie i got a little discouraged. the thought came to me to ask if we can use 103's spare robot, and 103's response was a whole hearted lets do it, so things set into motion 103's team literally split into 2 one 103 team and another extension of team 1923, especially the coach of 1923, Cassie who had the wonderful chance to be opposite 103 for that one match(been in that situation before, never fun) I was awestruck by the fact that 103 was behind us 100% I mean we are their competitors at this point. When the match score was announced i was floored we actually pulled off a win against 103 and their alliance. At one point i walked over to Mr and Mrs Beck and said "I'm sorry". they responded to me, Don't be.
So for those of you looking to make yourselves a better "Chairmen's Worthy" Team, keep in mind 103 got no benifit from this, and they cannot use this in their chairmens award submission. 103 is What the Chairmen's Award is. My eternal thanks and gratitude go out to all of team 103 for their continued gracious professionalism, and all around amazing sportsmanship |

Re: 2007 Monty Madness
Monty Madness was by all means THE GREATEST! Our team - TEAM 2070- had so much fun! The matches were so exciting, every team portrayed gp, and everything overall was amazing. Nothing could've made the event any better!!
....WOW...when it came to the finals, everyone went crazy!! haha. The finals was so intense! We had to substitute a team in for us...(Holla 1923- you guys rock!) and they did superb--Thanks Team 1923. The other alliances- team 1403 and 869 were absolutely great and supportive! Their robots were nearly flawless- needless to say...!! After going in for 3 matches- we ended up with 2 ties..then the 4th match finally ended it with a win for the blue alliance!!!! --CONGRATULATIONS Teams 2016, 1626, and 1396!!! -- robots, strategy, and just the overall game playing was fantastic!! We are so thrilled with our accomplishments this year as a rookie team!! We would like to thank all of the supportive teams in the NY Regional and participants in Monty Madness! Nothing could've made our season as enjoyable!! Thank You!! Oh, how I miss it!! Ah to flashback on the memories :D ![]() ![]() ![]() THANK YOU TEAM 75 and 1403! THE COMPETITION WAS BY FAR THE GREATEST!!! |
Re: 2007 Monty Madness

Re: 2007 Monty Madness
Brian from our team already mentioned it, but thanks a lot, all of you. Lots of thanks go to teams 1626 and 2016 for some awesome matches in the playoffs! We had a lot of fun, and I hope that we do get to go against some of you again, though a few of us are graduating in June, but we'll be back! (I was the guy in the denim jacket, running around with a camera, taking pictures of team 1396)

I am glad I had the opportunity to do something I have never done before (and there are few things I havn't done in my FIRST career, trust me)! 1923, thanks for such a great opportunity! I had fun coaching you guys! Let us know if you ever need help with anything! |
Re: 2007 Monty Madness
I'd like to Thank Dave Kazan for coordinating such a fantastic event. As it has since inception, Monty Madness is an event I've looked forward to. It beats out regional events in my book.
I'd also like to thank everyone who stopped by the Vex tournament. It was exciting and I had a lot of fun. Thanks to Occam's Engineers and Driven Robotics for helping run the event - both first rate teams, and a pleasure (as always) to work with. |
Re: 2007 Monty Madness
Monty Madness was yet again one amazing off-season event. From interacting with fellow CD members to seeing other competition robots, I really had a great time and look forward to next year’s event. Thanks go out to Dave and the entire MM crew for running such a great robotics competition in the Garden State.
Also I would like to mention the VIP FIRST alumnus buttons that college students/ FIRST alumni received. I felt that it was an interesting facet to the Monty Madness competition for recognizing these individuals. Hopefully this concept will come back next year. Congrats to Big Mike for winning the Woodie Flowers Jr Award. Congrats to all the teams that competed and those who came out victorious. Yesterday made me proud to say that I’m a FIRSTer. |
Re: 2007 Monty Madness
I want to thank everyone for once again putting on an absolutely amazing post-season event. I'm very glad that I got to be a part of it, even though those final rounds started to get pretty long! We had some great competition this year and I can't wait to see what next year's event brings.
I'd also like to give a big thanks to Pete K for all of his tireless work at Monty. He did an amazing job with the field, and we even managed to get it packed up in a relatively short amount of time before we all dropped dead from exhaustion. |
Re: 2007 Monty Madness
Wow, where to start? Nothing much I can add beyond what has already been said in previous posts. I echo all their praise of the event. From the gift shop to all the side things, lots of cool things to do and see. Some head aches from last year were fixed (people cutting through the back to get to the pits), but other things were still there (CONSTANTLY BEHIND SCHEDULE!). I can't wait for Monty 3.0 (pretty please?) or any other off season event that might take it's place.
I can't wait to see everyone again! |

Yeah Fred now that you mention it that was a very good idea to make a VIP button for the Alumnus of FIRST. And I must say there was quite a good amount of us Alumni / Alumna there volunteering. Hopefully as you said before the idea will continue to go on & grow. God Willing I hope to see everyone next year at Monty or sooner at one of the local regionals.
|
Re: 2007 Monty Madness
I had fun, but this competition gave me Erie reminders of our luck at the Cheasepeake regional. A rookie team as our 3rd pick with little driving experience having trouble getting up our ramps. But we were able to get a little further this time. Our bot went through all 17 matchs we were in without a problem, and only 1 minor repair to the tap in the middle. Congratz to the alliance that won and best of luck next year. I'll try to find some pictures lyiing around, if i can.

Re: 2007 Monty Madness
Does anyone have video of Monty Madness?
|
Re: 2007 Monty Madness
I just wanted to take the opportunity to thank all of the volunteers that made Monty Madness happen.
We had current members from various FIRST teams along with their mentors and parents, all helping us throughout the day. And of course (as Freddy noted before), we had our invaluable VIPs, those FIRST alumni from teams far and near volunteering their time for the next generation of high school students. Special thanks to our partners on Team 75, to our public voices of the Madness: Wayne Penn, George Ackley, and Big Mike, to our FTA and key support staff: Pete Kieselbach, Sarah Nied, and Michael Dessingue, to our head refs: Mike Nasson and Karin Kloberg, and to our audio-visual guru, Jeff Brooks and lighting maven, Bob Kazan. Also, let me express our collective gratitude to our speakers at the event, Dr. Bart Kamen and Sheri McCoy of J&J and of the FIRST board of directors. I hope that I am right in my evaluation that everyone had a good time at the event. I know that I saw lots of smiles and that is what it is all about. :) Quote:
