|
Re: 2007 Long Island Regional
Awesome!!! Last year's was pretty fun. Socials are great for teams to relax and go meet some other members :)
|
Re: 2007 Long Island Regional
A few members of my team and I have been wondering if any teams going to the LI Regional will be staying in a hotel (like us). And if so, which one are you staying at?
|
Re: 2007 Long Island Regional
We are flying out in about 4 hours. We are landing in Laguardia (sp). We will be staying at a hotel North of Hofstra. We are staying through Monday so we can take the team into New York City. Our team knows very few of the teams in this regional except 229 who we have had some history with. Our studnets are very excited and can't wait for practice tommorrow so we can start meeting some of you. See you in the morning.
|
Re: 2007 Long Island Regional
19 hours left! lol. i'm verry excited
|
Re: 2007 Long Island Regional
I've been writing the countdown in every notebook today =] It's insane.. I am totally excited!!!! We leave in about 14 hours!!!!
Scott Ritchie... our team is staying at the Marriot near Hofstra... hopefully you guys are staying there too!!! Cannot wait to meet the teams :D |
Re: 2007 Long Island Regional

Sleep is one of those variables that you have to account for when your the main operator of a 120 pound robot =)
|
Re: 2007 Long Island Regional
Hm! Seems all the bots are working well! And according to somebody I know, 102 seems to be doing a lot better =D Go 102!
|
Re: 2007 Long Island Regional
Any LI Regional Status?
Pleeeeeeease..... :) |
Re: 2007 Long Island Regional
229 in 1st 8-0 I think
234 in 2nd 6-1-1 Sorry I don't have more but I didn't take notes. |
Re: 2007 Long Island Regional
1st day results are on the FIRT web-site.
Really nice to see Paul Cotrone and Scott Schuler getting the volunteeer awards. Two truly deserving folks who give tremendous amounts of their time and effort for Long Island teams. |
Re: 2007 Long Island Regional
The algorithm that decides the alliance pairings seems to be flawed this year. We were against team 234 for the first 3 matches, and were paired up with the same ramp bot for 3 rounds strait. Both situations were quite irritating.

Re: 2007 Long Island Regional
527 was doing pretty well. Not quite as fast as 234, but still one of the top three or four tube scorers there, IMO. Phil just needs to learn how to respect the power of the ramp bot. ;)

Re: 2007 Long Island Regional
Congrats to all of the great teams that won awards this weekend! Everyone worked really hard and the regional was a lot of fun!:)

Re: 2007 Long Island Regional
Well that was a fun weekend Im gonna miss all of you since this is my last year
as a student at least RIP Scrappy!!! Mike driver of 884's Scrappy |
Re: 2007 Long Island Regional
229, 234 & 545 You guys were an excellent alliance. It's great to see Division by Zero back on Long Island again. Also great to see a Midwest team, and a very good one at that, make the trip East. Have a good time in the Big Apple on Sunday.
229 While I have to admit we were happy to be on the alliance in the semi-finals that gave you your only defeat in a match the entire weekend. We're glad that you were able to win the whole thing once we lost to you. 1601 Aviation High School you really worked hard to get the Chairmans Award and the results speak for themselves. Overall a very good Regional. The Long Island Regional keeps improving every year. Dual emcees and a better layout of the venue for the pits and the audience were a plus. OK now where did I put my aspirin, throat lozenges and BenGay..................... |
Re: 2007 Long Island Regional
Does anybody know where I could find the video that they played at the start of the opening ceremony both days of the regional, the one where it was like, something + something = something and had that techno-ish music in it? I could really use that video.
|
Re: 2007 Long Island Regional
Long Island was great. Congrats to all the winners! And I hope those who didn't win anything still had an awesome time. Hope to meet some of you guys at Nationals!!!!!!!! :)
|
Re: 2007 Long Island Regional
I would just like to thank everyone for being so nice to us down there, and congrats to the alliance gave us our only loss in the semi's.
-Alex (Team Leader/Coach) |
Re: 2007 Long Island Regional
Congrats to the 5th seeded alliance who gave us our only lose of the Regional.
Thanks 234 and 545 for accepting the invitations to join our alliance. Congrats to everyone else for a good regional, especially 102 and 1601 for EI and Chairmans respectively |
Re: 2007 Long Island Regional
Team 358 thanks Team 1203 for choosing us with the second pick and Team1688 for rounding out our alliance.
Team 358 would like to congratulate Team 229, Team 234, and Team 545 on their excellent championship alliance. Finally, congratulations to Teams 1601 and 102 on Chairman’s and Engineering Inspiration. |
Re: 2007 Long Island Regional
Great job teams, congrats 229, 234, 545, you guys where great. We had a great time, and unfortunately we were unable to bring in 3 SBPLI championships in a row
|
Re: 2007 Long Island Regional
I would like to personally thank two teams, 358 and 1594. 1594 came over too us after we had just beat their alliance in order to wish us luck and ask if there was anything we needed, it shows real heart and love for the program to be able to do that, and I hope that our team one day exemplifies the spirit of FIRST as much as you girls do. I would also like to thank 358 for cheering for us after we had just beat them for the regional win, you guys are an awesome team, and we had to fight for the finals.
I would also like to thank 234 for being and awesome pit neighbor, an awesome all around team, and an awesome offensive machine, we could not of done it without you. Last, but certainly not least I would like to thank 545, you were the first ramp robot on our list, and we could have never made it as far as we did without your defensive capabilities and those awesome ramps. You guys were the steal of the regional in my opinion. |
Re: 2007 Long Island Regional
Way to go 1601 on Chairman's!!! Hope to see you guys down in Atlanta!
Team 102 had a fantastic time at the Long Island Regional. It is such a great regional; so many great people. It was another great LI Regional for Team 102 :) Great job to the winning alliance as well - it was well deserved! |
Re: 2007 Long Island Regional
Just out of curosity does anyone have Jay's "proposal" to the team rep for 234 on video???
|
Re: 2007 Long Island Regional
Completely agree with Jay, team 358 was great. Very professional in cheering for us when we won the last match, and made the finals amazing. Showed the spirit of FIRST in the best of ways, and ended the regional as Finalists, great job guys.
Would also like to say thank you to teams 234 and team 545, they were amazing alliance partners. Awesome job to everyone. Thanks for making my second regional with 229 a great time. |
Re: 2007 Long Island Regional
Team 1688 would like to thank 1203 and 358 for the great alliance we had. 1203 with their great ramp.every match we scored tubes with only two robots on the field We went undefeated until finals but were beaten by a great alliance, thanks to the winninig alliance also 229, 234, and 545 you guys did a great job!
Just one question do the finalists get that blue poster? |

Re: 2007 Long Island Regional
My thanks and congratulations to:
Teams 1203 Pandemonium and 1688 Stick Shift our alliance members for a great run ending in silver and some really exciting moments put up by 270, 527, & 1606 in the Quarterfinals as well as 287, 533, & 1537 in the Semi’s. And of course the Finals where we were sent packing by: 234 - so many members volunteered at SBPLI and they gave our kids the opportunity to learn how to be good hosts. We hope to make it out to IRI sometime Chris, but this summer I'll be in New Mexico with another youth group. 229 - had great spirit and as a Scot I admire any man in a kilt. 545 - For great ramp-aging and for bringing home one of the winners’ trophies for Long Island. The referees, led by Jim Stephenson, made some really tough, fair calls. I missed seeing Denise in stripes, though :) I have to thank so many teams for assistance we received from our “family,” as Debbie from 564 likes to call it, especially, 271 Bayshore - for their machining help, and pressing BaneBot pinions on Fisher Price motors. 514 Miller Place - for their machining help and for constantly trading the mini-BaneBot transmissions back and forth. I’ve lost track of who’s using the 64:1 and who’s using the 125:1... There were parts of both of these great teams in the Finals. Congratulations to our Chairman's Award Winners, Team 1601 Quantum Samurai. Very well deserved. (We'll get that teleconferencing working!) Finally, I really enjoying working with so many students and teams. I know it was under duress and pressure to get out on the field, but everybody was working by the end. I hope you all took home some great memories, ideas from other robots, and spirit from other teams to inspire you. |

Re: 2007 Long Island Regional
i personally have a few thank you's to hand out...
271 - thanks for choosing us, and tolerating the "choose 3rd alliance partner via AIM on a laptop in the field" system, and being a great alliance parter 569 - thanks for being a fantastic alliance partner, and having some great torque. 271+569 - for playing hard, even in the face of some weird ref calls 358 - someone from your team gave me a miniDV tape right when i needed it, just gave it to me, i offered to borrow, rip the video and return, i offered to buy it, but they just gave it to me...THANKS! congrats to the winners of all awards and whatnot and on one other note, i left my tripod in the stands on thursday night, and never got it back...did any teams pick up a silver Lunhof tripod with a Leitz-Wetzlar ball joint head mount? |
Re: 2007 Long Island Regional
A BIG Congrats to 229 on your regional win. Of course a congrats to all the team but I had to give a shout as an Almni first. With Three Regional Championships, and five metals, in the last four years does this still make you you the Smallest of the Big Dogs? Awsome job especially on a "rebuilding year." See you at the big dance.
Jeff "Martinez" Martinez PS: I'm sure the up coming Lego League and Vex Competitions at Clarkson will be an awsome time. I may just have to wander on up there..... |
