Thanks

Based on how this thread is going, there's going to be over 100 TEAMS that will want to go to the prom. This sounds more like an impromtu Team Social. FreedomForce's post earlier in this thread that maybe FIRST ought to consider this instead of the Centennial Park party.

Is doing both out of the question??
Is there a large room available in the WCC for Thursday night?

Re: Prom anyone????

I'm going to have to second that...with approx 100 TEAMS showing interest lets say that if each team brought only 10 kids (a rough estimate) that would require a space big enough to hold 1,000 people minimum...I don't think a hotel hall could hold it. So maybe somewhere else?

I mean I REALLY want to go, and I don't want to sound like a downer, but time is running out and people are growing more in number.

If it's a nice night, you could always try doing it outside, or having an impromptu meetup somewhere like the underground or Centennial Park. After all, there's usually the Atlanta Prom around the same weekend (though we've been informed not this year), and the fountain makes for a gorgeous background for pictures.

There's always some way to work it out, but please try and finalize your plans as quickly as possible so those of us WITH teams can make our travel arrangements to your party!

I think the list should be made after the last regional is over because there are teams out there that probably want to go, but have not qualified yet to go to Atlanta.

I recommend leaving a few ad hoc spaces, but having a pretty finalized sheet. The sooner the better, as we all know, schools have a tendency to give out LOTS of red tape for unofficial events like this. So the sooner the list, the sooner the teams can work out the details. I suggest setting aside maybe 30+ spots for teams that haven't qualified yet, but you should have a least a large consensus by now about everyone else. =)

Re: Prom anyone????

Wild idea here:

How about doing this on the floor of the Georgia Dome after the pits close Thursday night? Maybe not on the playing fields, but perhaps in the space in front of them?

Music can be played for varied preferences (on each field), so mentors/volunteers as well as students get to party!

This might be a logistics issue for FIRST and the venue, but maybe it can work...
